lower back pain from squats

    it was my first time doing squats today,it looked like my form was perfect in the mirror. i squated 40 kg after building up from 10 at the start. should my lower back be hurting me because its a new exercise?

    I don't think your back should ever be sore after squats to be honest, even if it is a new exercise. Not 100% certain on that one.

    For your first time, of course it will be sore especially the following morning. It like anything if you take up running you will be sore the day after as your body simply isnt used to using the muscles involved. As a general guide if the soreness last more than 2 dyas then you've done damage, if it goes after the second day then you have simply had a good workout and pushed yourself.

    I would be carefull though, going up to 40kg on your first go is abit dodge. Build yourself up for a few sessions first would be my advice to improve the strangth in that area and get the muscles used to working. But each to their own.

    Could be due to rounding of the lower back, can't see that from a mirror. Get someone to check your squat for lower back rounding, if thats happening you need to work on flexibility.

    Also make sure the weight isn't on your toes, that can cause lower back pain, you want the weight to be nearer the back of your foot. Can try curling your toes off the ground to help with this.

    Make sure you do a lot of stretches before your work out, to stretch out your whole body. If there's a swimming pool available, go for a swim after your session. It'll help your body to recover.

    Jaccuzi are my personal favourite after squating. Aim the air jet right onto your lower back. I have a weak back anyway, so that helps it a lot.

    If you are coming up on your toes - you need more practice squatting..
    It is very important to keep your feet flat - otherwise you will push out your back and that can cause pain..

    lads just made a big mistake sorry i meant fron deadlifting my bad, but its it normal to have this pain after it? its kinda eased off dince yesterday

    Ah, well in that case: yes, it is normal. Your lower back muscles provide stability during deadlifts and if these muscles are not use to providing this function under the strain of heavy weight, you will get a case of the DOMs due to the release of lactic acid.

    Pain in the lower back from DL is ususally either just the pump, a good sign but it's quite uncomfortable until you get used to it, or it's actual damage. Can come from arching your back forward in the lift, I used to have minor trouble with that in the past, it was caused by not lowering my hips enough. Would need a video though.

    Skimmed the thread... but if you're confusing squatting with deadlifting, and twisting your head and looking in the mirror while you do it chances are you're doing it wrong.

    You might be doing it right, but without video evidence I certainly wouldn't be comfortable making that call!
