Its that time of year again for probably Irelands best domestic juvenile competitions.I was in Limerick yesterday at the Munster schools and even though the conditions were terrible was treated to some fantastic competition!
Sarah Lavin was amazing winning 2 gold and a silver in the 80mH,200m and 100m.It says that Joan Healy started as favourite in the 200m on the AAI site but i dont think many people were thinking that yesterday.Sarah was behind off the bend and chased her down and passed her with ease. She very nearly had her in the 100m after a dreadful start.Poor Jane Dickinson who probably would have won any other province was 3rd in both sprints and doesnt even qualify.
Kate Veale was amazing in the inter walk,Billy Ryan in the Senior 200/400,Patrick Maher Sen 400H,Clarence Kennedy Inter 100H,Ciara Giles Doran Junior 200m/LJ/80mH,Amy O Donoghue Inter 800m/1500m,Claire Fitzgearld Sen Shot/Discus/Jav,Shane Quinn Inter 1500m,Dean Cronin Inter 800m,Niamh de Hora Jun 800m,Megan Kiely Inter 300H/300m and many more.
Was anybody at any of the other provincials?

Was at the leinsters yesterday. Again very strong winds and rain probably slowed the performances. Was very impressed with the 200metre events, some great battles. Especially the inter and senior girls sprints. Judging by the standard of the results from the Munster schools should be a great battle in these events at the all irelands.

I think you can only bring two events to all-Irelands, so imagine Sarah Lavin will drop the 100m, and Jane will get to do that!

Was up in Santry there yesterday and on Wednesday for the Leinsters. There really were some great performances, despite the wind on both days!! Anyone know if the results from Leinster are up yet?

Does anybody know why Munster athletes can compete in 3 events yet Leinster can only do two?

Also there have been cases of athletes doing 3 events in All Irelands!!

Munster athletes can do 3 at Munster level as that what the Munster commitee allow i imagine.Leinster can only do 2 as that what the Leinster commitee allow.
What cases of athletes doing 3 at all Irelands do you know about?Ive never come accross it??

    ,Ciara Giles Doran Junior 200m/LJ/80mH,

She is from Waterford so I assume she is Ferrybank? Real talent although still very young but great allround ability.

On Lavin beating Healy, those young women sprinters are on fire. Fitzpatrick beat Healy and Whelan last week, Lavin wins this week. The older ones doing good too, Louise Kiernan with a 11.76. Its great.

Yep she is Ferrybank.Eilish injured herself at the juniors so unfortunatly was unable to compete at the schools which is a real pity and even more so Ann O Shea also of Ferrybank also out injured;at 14 probably the classiest sprinter out of all of them!
There will be serious Junior relay teams there for a few years and there all Munster Girls:D-

I was out at U.L yesterday, walking around the campus all day, and only at the end did I go up around the track to see them cleaning up after the meet; I could've watched it all if I hadn't been feck-acting around the other side of the campus without a notion that it was on!

think lavin top two will be the 100 and 200 hurdles isnt her fav event!!
she shouldnt be deciding on events so other people can get to all irelands.
true any other province jane would of got through but.

Id disagree with you on that.Id be 99% percent sure she will do hurdles and 200m as her start isnt good enough to beat Healy at the moment. She is breaking hurdles records nearly everytime she runs so she must like them.

I see the Leinster results are at:- http://www.athleticsireland.ie/content/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/leinster-schools-results-tf-2009.pdf

Anyone know if the inter boys high jump result is correct, i.e. won at 2.12!

Seems an incredible jump and no special remarks passed on it. Looks to me like its an error as the heights in the inter boys are same as senior boys.

Typo I'd say, but it would be great if it wasn't.

Kourosh's jump in the senior was a great jump in its own right.

Does anybody knowhe leinster times for the inter boys 100hurdles and inter girls 300 hurdles as they are missing?

All of the hurdles were run on Wednesday with the minor and junior events so i suspect there may have been a few problems with the timing on Wednesday as some of the sprints/hurdles held on Wed have their times omitted.

    Sat May 30th Tullamore.
Traditionally this is one of the best days athletics on the calander. Every event is a final and it sticks to the timetable.
Who will be the outstanding performers this year? Any thoughts?

Edmond O'H vs Ben Reynolds should be a belter, might go with the Corkman although Ben is more experienced and it'll be Edmond's first big real test since his breakthrough this season.

Is Ciara Everard not doing Senior 800 - herself vs Ciara Mageean would be great? If she is running Ciara E will be fancied although I don't know if schools are top of her priority this year. Expect Ciara M to try run the legs off Ciara E which will be hard considering Ciara E's 400m pace.

Kourosh in the High Jump will be interesting, whats the record by the way in that, I've no idea?

The girls sprints will be top notch as normal.

I presume EYOF slots are up for grabs so loads to play for.

I would go with Edmond also.As for Ciara Everard she is running but not quiet at the level she was running last year in both the 4 and the 8 so i would expect Meegan to beat her.[That is if she runs both the 8 and 15 of course as she may opt just to take part in the 1500m].
Its a pity that the lists of entries arent released the week before as a build up to the main event.
Is it true if any u16s get qualifying times/distances for the EYOF that they are ineligible?ie.Sarah Lavin

Ive already done out a list of everything i must watch-

    27.Aoife Hickey-Sen Hammer

She added just under a metre to her PB at the (poorly attended) Leinster Junior and U23 championships, throwing 54.09m. She needs an extra 91cm for the Euro Junior standard, and at the rate she's breaking her PB at the moment, I wouldn't bet against her.

There are a few sprinters outside Munster. Leinster - Lawlor and Creanor - both at World Juniors. Lawlor qualified for Europeans in hurdles. Ulster - Lewis qualified for European Juniors 200 and was second to Whelan in Under 20 100 last year. Plus approaching 6 metres in LJ. But think she might be out for season due to illness. There is talent outside Munster.

I tought Sandra was more of a hurdler than a sprinter but yes she is quiet good along with Stephanie. In saying that they havent shown the form yet this season[i know its early] to run as quick as the Munster girls Healy,Lavin,Fitzpatrick,Whelan. But its not beyond them.We are very lucky at the moment with the amount of good female sprinters coming through from all provinces.
Does anyone know if the Hession girl who won the Connaught Inter 300m is related to the Hesh?Sister?

I presume so, ask at her school. The guys here are talking about post-primary champs which are a lot more competitive. The primary is more about fun and just competing.

    Hurdlers are sprinters;)

Sandra is the Irish leader (senior) over 100H this year so she is doing alright! Stephanie has not been 100% fit but is coming around and is a real talent and a great technician which will help her as she gets older and stronger..

Having said that there is real talent at womens underage sprinting in Munster.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I'm just wondering about the accessibility of Santry, during schools competitions. A little off-topic, but the posters on this thread would seem to be best placed to provide an answer.

Wasn't there but looking at the results it looks like it was the best champs probably ever. Some great performances.

Mageean in the 800 stands out obviously but great to see so many records go, the sport at underage is on fire!!

I had never heard of Sam Ogunlewe either but he looked the real deal alright, very Usain Bolt like tall and rangey. His win was probably the biggest suprise of the day but he looks a real talent even if he is a late comer to the sport.Anybody know what club he is attached to?
Ciara Meegan made her 800 look very easy even though Ciara Everard ran very well.I was never in doubt she would win but the time was fantastic.
Ben Reynolds 110Hurdles was fantastic and he blew the rest of the field away.
Killian Barrys hammer was unbelievable to watch.
Marcus Lawlor was so strong in the junior 200m.
Jonathan Foleys 3.40m junior pole vault and he didnt attempt higher as he was supposed to be coming off a bad hip injury.
Obviously Kourish Fourghi's High Jump was amazing with him doing backflips afterwards.
But to name a few but there was alot more.

I can't find the results anywhere, but do you know what Foroughi jumped? He seems to be back in great form after a bit of an iffy year last year, and could be one to watch at the Euro Juniors. he showed in Belgrade two years ago that he performs when it counts.

I'm looking forward to going through the results when they're posted though; seems to cast a wave of optimism over Irish T&F!

Contact High Performance at AAI - performance@athleticsireland.ie. Don't know of the jigs and reels that have to be done. With these things you have to push your case forward, many times they (as in AAI) won't come looking for him (they may have already) but sometimes its the athletes/coaches/parents/friends who shout loudest get heard.

The qualifying standard for Euro Juniors is 10.75. That's within his grasp if he was pushed and he had favourable conditions again like saturday. This guy would be great to get running for us!

This is all assuming the lad wants to compete for Ireland.

Jumped 2.00 at AAI Games in Athlone. One other guy was in it and he jumped 1.75. AOD probably said feck this for a game of soldiers and just got a jump in. I heard he is training but not sure how seriously. Looked fit and trim though.
