Hi, just wondering what kind of music people listen to in the gym to motivate them.... recently i've been listening to rage against the machine and queens of the stone age but getting sick of them now and running (quite literally) out of ideas of who / what to listen to!

Yeah RATM is a favourite of mine.

Death Magnetica is a perfect gym album imo, as well as Back in Black.

I usually just listen to the music that's on the PA system - which means a mix of Pop and Commercial Dance. I'm very into my music, but I find that the cheesy stuff works best for motivation.

Most stuff: Manowar, Black Label Society, etc.
Rowing machine, weights, etc: Hatebreed, or Pantera.

my gym usually has pretty poor music on - wouldnt motivate you at all - even at that its always real low and with all the machines on you cant hear a thing!

Must give these a go, i'd say pantera would be pretty good to pump you up alright!

    Guyz Nite - Die Hard

If you listen to this, you have to shout "Yippee-ki-yay, mother****er!" along with the lyrics

Chesney Hawkes - The one and Only

Joe Esposito - You're the Best Around

Survivor - Eye of the Tiger

    Sigur Ros
    Death cab for Cutie

    zzzz zzzz zzzz

I love all 3, specially the icelandic weirdos but christ would ya not be nodding off on the bench during sigur ros or looking for a noose to hang yourself off the power rack during DcfC.

I like Kasabian. And lately, strangely enough, I'm finding eighties power ballads are heping me push out those last few reps?! But disregard that second bit I think its just a phase im going through

I usually can't lift a thing if something like RATM is playing.

I'd go for stuff like this usually:

    Rammstein
    Speedy J
    Modeselektor
    Orbital
    Strapping Young Lad
    Trentemoller
    Vitalic

I can't listen to any music while I'm lifting. It totally ruins my concentration. I'm bad enough at keeping track of reps and breathing without music blasting into my ears!

But for cardio I listen to some Metal.

Not for everybody but I find DevilDriver to be the pinnacle of gym music (mixed in with some of the other suggestions). Unfortunately, my iPod seems to have been misplaced and I've been without music on the move for about 3 weeks :(.

I like Metal and rock but cannot stand it when I'm lifting.

Panthera, SOAD and slipknot. Stopped listening to music in the gym about a year ago though, but it is a home gym so little distraction other than herself:p

DMX is unreal music for the gym.
Specially his song called intro. It's chuck liddels entrance song in the UFC.

for running The Clash works well for me

agree with you there, clash is great for running to. Good anytime really.

I also find that movie compliation albums are good. An old favorite is "Trainspotting" soundtrack.

I used to live in Bavaria, and ran for ages in the forests with a sony walkman cassette player (which was about the size of a small brick) straped to my waist, and Pulps "Mile High" blasting in my ears. Ah good times

LCD Soundsystem - Sound of silver

The Ramones are good, fast and short songs.
I like a bit of Spin Doctors too.
    Meat Loaf
    Status Quo

I usually stick mine on shuffle and if the song is slow, I just skip to the next one...

The soundtracks to need for speed games are handy as well, got them the other day some nice tunes to get the blood pumping

As well as that i listen to some....
    R.A.T.M.
Eminem- Til I Collapse (some remix i picked up)
    Go To Sleep
    AC/DC
    Tiesto-Powermix
    DMX
    Lil Wayne-300 Brolic
    Papa Roach-Last Resort
    Marilyn Manson-Fight Song
Static X, Mudvayne, Avenged Sevenfold, Celldweller, Mastodon and a few others

Bit of a mix up there but i get bored with my music easily

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 169 ✭✭JohnnyMustang22

    Therapy - Troublegum
A mix of Smashing Pumpkins harder tunes
    Paul OakenFold - Transport
    Kasabian
    Faithless.

I just bought one of those Cheesy Gym Mixes off Itunes. But got bored of it after 2 listens.

I find the best thing for Cardio is listening to something decent on my ipod then putting on the TV which normally has something like these on.

I can go for miles while watching videos like these....:D
