    Hi all,

I came on here asking for advice before and got some great help, was making good progress on my lifts and my cardio fitness. Then I injured my knee and am someway off full recovery, much further than I anticipated.

Anyway, so I can't run, squat or DL so it kinda puts me up **** creek.

I figure my diet needs to be perfect now that I cant rely on running and big compounds to eat away the imperfections.

Can anyone give me a perfect meal plan/diet or give advice to such?

Secondly, given the fact that I cant do the above it puts me at a severe disadvantage lifts wise. How can I make up for this?

And thirdly, can anyone recommend a good substitute for running that isnt intense on my knee. I figure swimming but am not entirely sure.

    Thanks for all your help.

Ive bolded the important parts for you skimmers.

I'd say the elliptical would be the best substitute for running.

    Hey Theresa,

Do you have access to a gym, if so them i would say that the crosstrainer puts the least stress on your knees. Also, now would be as good a time as any to start swimming.

Are you doing physio for the knee?

On the diet side of things, it much more embarassing and effective if you post up your current diet and people can give you advise. I assume you have read the diet sticky and already know your recommended daily cals. You will need to reduce those cals in line with your new activity level.

    Cheers Tom.

Breakfast: 2 egg Omellette w/ ham, tomatos and little bit of cheese. Pint of milk.

11am or so: Small can on tinned tuna

1pm: Fried Chicken Breast with a load of salad leaves. Some Chili sauce if I get bored.

4pm: Salmon with some tomatos all mashed up.

    7pm:
Chicken/Fish/Stealk fried, with salad leaves and some sort of sauce.Salad leaves again, maybe some mash.

Thats pretty much the jist of it. Drink a fair bit of milk and water throughout the day, no tea/soft drinks ever really.

Nah no physio for the knee yet, tbh and I dont mean this in an ignorant/bullish way but I find it useless. Ive been getting this same knee injury since I was 15 and the physiotherapist has done nothing for it. Same ol, strengthening exercises and ultrasound or w/e.

Curiously though, before it happened this time I was deadlifting a fair bit. Not squatting cos of lack of rack. Maybe it was an imbalance but I would have though that the DL would have given me more stability and strength for it.

Slightly off topic but I had a similar knee problem for about 18 months. Would keep flaring up whenever I tried to get back training or playing football. Physio kept insisting that it was just an issue of my weight and not resting it enough.

Went to see a specialist in blackrock clinic who diagnosed a tear in the cartilage as well as general wear and tear in the knee. Six weeks later I had keyhole surgery on it, 4 weeks after that I was back light training, and 2 years on I haven't had another problem with it. Now granted I'm not playing as much and barely training at all, but I'm getting through 2 hours of Astro football a week, when I couldn't get through 15 minutes without pain beforehand.

It was only €170 for that first consultation, might be worthwhile if you're having that much trouble.

Jesus, your diet look great. Maybe find another method of cooking other than frying the chicken and fish.

I think you should see a specialist about the knee and get it sorted once and for all.

Can you pm me a number/info on the specialist please Iago?

Good suggestions above but if this is a reccuring problem then keeping the weight off it as much as possible might be a good idea, so maybe try aqua jogging?

You need the belt (the other stuff is optional AFAIK) it works exactly the same muscles as running and is recommended for people with knee injuries.

you will look and feel very silly while doing it though :D
