WTF!!! Police Brutality - MERGED

Five Birmingham police officers fired Tuesday on charges they used excessive force on a man after a pursuit have appealed the decision to the Jefferson County Personnel Board, authorities said. A hearing officer will investigate the claims and make a recommendation to the Personnel Board's three-member governing body. The officers involved each have between 7 and 15 years of experience on the police force.
Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper and Mayor Larry Langford announced today the firing of the five officers based their roles in the videotaped beating of a man following a police chase on Jan. 23, 2009. Disciplinary action also will be taken against supervisors who failed for months to report the incident to higher-ups, officials said.
The beating incident happened when a Birmingham police officer tried to question 38-year-old Anthony Warren about possible drug activity. Warren fled starting a chase, captured by a police video camera, which showed Warren struck a Hoover police officer and then was thrown from his own car after he crashed. Authorities said he was unconscious when officers began beating him with a billy club, fists and feet.

Cars are all driving on the wrong side of the road. Even the police. What a country.

That's exactly the type of "assert your authori-tah" "zero tolerance" stuff most boardsies seem to condone (usually accompanied by severe overuse of the word "scumbag").

The only thing that ever condones violence is violence.

How lucky was that policeman at about 0.08secs?

I'm sure that contributed to the beating.

Unlucky to the fat cop at the start of the beating.

How crap is it to fall on someone whilst trying to beat them with a stick.

it looks like his leg/foot got runover so idk about that. maybe thats why they beat him up though. not a justification however.

In fairness he ran over a Police Officer before the beat him, he deserved a good Hiding, but 5 people was too many.

We all know the say "Too many Chefs Spoil the Broth"

Well "Too many cops, They will get caught."

If it had ended like a regular chase where you get out of your car and put your hands on your head i might agree. but he was flung out of his own window and was laying face flat unconscious.

    He was clearly hurt.

    Police forces are supposed to rise above emotions and revenge and all that, in order to best serve the community. If they lower themselves to the human level it makes the criminal;

a). hate them more and be less likely to cooperate (they're actively being dicks and not just doing their job)
b). See the police as people like themselves rather than an efficient system and thus treat them with the respect they would give a group of peers who tried to boss them around.

Sadly, many people would rather forgo these benifits in order to briefly feel good in themselves knowing another "scumbag" has had it shoved in his face.

hope that scumbag died, trying to run down police like that and people are b1tching about how the cops give him a few little punches. if someone tried to murder someone i cared about like that i would do a lot more than throw punches

He didn't try and hit the cop, he was swerving around the stinger thing, granted he shouldn't of done any of it in the first place but the fella got thrown out of a tumbling car, is that not enough physical hurt?

He probably got a few years for his trouble (which he deserves) but the cops should get a few years for that too

    Deserved it.

I hate the way some people can give liberals such a bad name. My mantra is do whatever the **** you want to, but when it involves hurting (and possibly killing/maiming!) other people - then you need a good baton party.

what ever happened in the dublin case last year where a security guard & cashiers boyfriend chased raiders out of the shop & the raiders died?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,153 ✭✭✭Rented Mule

They need to but Blackhawk helicopters in the air for these chases.

    You run = you die.

    End of story.

It would work under the "speedy" requirement. I dont know about fair though.

Points for thinking out of the box though!

saw the thread title and then started watching the vid , when I saw him nearly kill the cop with his car I was thinking 'well he fckin asked for it' I'd probably do the same if I was a cop and saw that. But then I saw the crash and the guy getting flung out the window, and then they beat him? Idiots.

I'm normally all for a bit of police brutality but he was unconscious for feck sake.

IMO, policeman are also ordinay mortals like us. Further seeing their fellow police man being run-over in the line of duty, will infuriate any policeman. They were fair they used only their limbs and no battons or stones or *****. :D

If somebody písses you off and then they run away and you have to chase after them then it's fairly hard for it all not to end in a beating. It's kind of like an instinct that apes have. I blame the testosterone.

I kind of expected to see a beating at the end of it.
He tried to run over a cop, in America that = severe hiding.
    Concious or not!!!!

Gobsites. They should have waited till he was all better after a stint in hospital, then put him back in there.

I suppose the Police could knock eleven shades of sh1t out of this guy, and then just say the injuries were sustained in the car accident and get away with it. That kind of opportunity doesn`t come along too often. Too bad someone was filming!
Seriously though, that did look horrific and I hope the guy`s OK now. No one deserves a kicking like that.

Losing your job for beating a guy up? wtf is that? whatever happened to getting your arse hauled in court for battery? Or is that only if you're guilty of self-defence?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 749 ✭✭✭Spastafarian

I would've kicked the shit out of anyone who tried to run over a friend of mine. Especially if he was unconscious. Cos it's easier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,675 ✭✭✭TechnoPool

I'll admit, the first thing I said when I seen this was "Holy ****!"

Then when I realised it was in the US and not , my shock was genuinely lessened to an "Oh right".

So I saw the headline and thought here we go again.

Is it just me or should these police men have been given medals for their efforts!!

**note the drivers attempt to hit a cop at the start of the vid!
