Not a Valid Win 32 Application?

Ive not got a clue what that means basically. Anything ive tried updating for the last week or 2 wont let me run any exe. that i Download. Keep getting the same error. ( Name ) is not a Valid Win 32 application. any thoughts? Running Vista 32 bit. Same error when i DL with Firefox or IE

I havent seen that error in a long time. Not since XP. And I never figured it out
