I'm very confused by this. I was on an ebay page, I clicked a listing and it took me to a page with a french maid with a little graphic box that says "Weclome to ebay.ie" and a search bar. There's also a link that reads "Why am I seeing this web site?" and it it's an email link.

I've taken a screen grab of it below. It's slightly nsfw I suppose.
It's happened on a couple of different links and seems to be random.
    Any ideas what's going?

Also , this is the email link :
mailto:info@whois-help.info?Subject=Inquiring about the domain ebay.ie, with status: NOTFOUND

    And the webpage :

Alan - I'm also getting this on multiple machines on site. Looks like the site has been redirected.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,187 ✭✭✭ondafly

looks like Ebay have fixed the issue

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,443 ✭✭✭Red Sleeping Beauty

I noticed it was very random. I searched the "why am I getting this page" message and the email address and came up with "enom" or something, it's a web host.

It was very very strange. I thought I was losing the plot altogether!

Sounds like they forgot to renew the domain or something :)

dammit - just logged into myebay and got redirected to http://my.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyEbayBeta&gbh=1&MyEbay=&guest=1 <-- and yet again my french maid appeared again !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,187 ✭✭✭ondafly

looks like ebay.ie is gone again - can anyone confirm this issue ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 487 ✭✭Cungi

Yeah i'm having the same problem. Usually i'd be happy to see french maids :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31 LeotCol

Yeah I started getting this problem last night. I thought it was just my machine, as some of my friends were still able to use the site. It would let me get to certain parts of the site and show me the french maid at others.
It seems to be quite random.

what is the ISP people are using ? I'm on Eircom. I've contacted friends on BT, and they are not experiencing/enjoying this issue

Yeah I'm on Eircom too. Perhaps it is only affecting us?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 487 ✭✭Cungi

Afaik i'm on Eircom too. But at home i'm on IBB so i'll try that later. If anyone still really needs to use Ebay they can still sign in through Ebay.com and Ebay.co.uk

EDIT: Ads arent there now but i'm being redirected to the sign in page even though i'm already signed in.

im on eircom too, cant even get to the home pag ebay.ie

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,443 ✭✭✭Red Sleeping Beauty

    Eircom

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,187 ✭✭✭ondafly

at home testing now on BT - and ebay.ie is working fine. Looks like the issue is eircom related !

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,443 ✭✭✭Red Sleeping Beauty

Should someone contact either ebay or eircom so ? I don't like talking to these people and I'd bet that if you emailed/phoned one of them they'd tell you it's the other's fault/problem.

Same here on multiple Eircom connections with multiple computers
Interested in how this happened/is happening.

Think its ony Eircom, just got it back again tonight but it went this morning when I tried an old IOL dial up account and different DNS settings.

Suspect its something that Eircom DNS server have picked up.

Well it's ok on my IBB home pc. Weird.

Seems to be gone again. I checked my ISA server log files and found the source IP was 168.75.68.60, but an NSLOOKUP of ebay.ie gives 69.64.147.243 (which I think is correct) on eircoms primary dns server (213.94.190.235) but that NSLOOKUP was done after the eBay page came back again.

If it happens again I'll see if blocking that IP makes any differnce.

Edit also found a java script that is picked up from 168.75.68.97. If anyone wants more info before I swtich my logging back off let me know, but I'm only quickly scaning a log file by eay and could have it allllll wrong

Im getting the french maid now as well!! Malware???????????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71 ✭✭Archeotech

This is getting very annoying... Eircom as well but then I have another laptop on my network and it seems fine....

    Scanning my computer now

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,443 ✭✭✭Red Sleeping Beauty

It's random from what I can tell. It first happened when I clicked on a listing, and then when I searched for completed listings and then when I clicked some "categories" links on the front page and then it was happening on and off when I was just going to www.ebay.ie in my address bar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,405 ✭✭✭Dartz

    BTOnline... I get it fine.

    Takes a bloody age though.

ran some scans and nothing! Then it started happening on my other laptop which I've hardly used in a while...

Sent mails to both Eircom and ebay so maybe they'll do something.

I just WHOIS Queried EBAY.IE and got the Following

so as far i can see their website is still working, i'm on Eircom Anytime 150 (dial up) and i'm getting anything BUT Ebay,
Problem is Definately Down to Eircom's Domain Name Servers.

I'm an anytime user and had the same issue, but as there is an eircom problem with that at the moment in the Waterford area I'm using eircom pay as you go.

When I swapped over to using an old IOL number and IOL DNS servers problem went away.

Went back to eircom dial up and it was a while before the problem came back again but went after about 20mins when I opened a fresh eBay home page and killed all the fake ones.

If it happens again I think I'll try differnt DNS servers like these at wwwopendns.org see this past thread where there was a previous Eircom DNS issue.

sadly now instead of the hot maid page I now get a page with just a series of useless links =_= ....

Anyway for now best use ebay.co.uk

That opendns site doesn't even work for me. I can get to the home page now but it won't let me log in, it just refreshes the home page over and over again. I sold two items today on ebay and now I can't send invoices! Pretty frustrating.

You should just use ebay.com or ebay.co.uk

They will let you sign in.
      :pac:
And now not only is it not what we wanted but its not even a chick!

Yeah, I've been using ebay.co.uk all day to monitor my sales - the problem is whenever I click on "send payment details" it won't let me send them from ebay.co.uk because the item was registered on ebay.ie. The only way I can send it from ebay.co.uk is to sign in to ebay.ie and change the item details! It's ridiculous!

These were the first ever items I auctioned too - I've got off to a pretty shaky start!

They are aware of the problem, but it looks like it's just an Eircom DNS error. Eircom was buggy all evening before I came across the sexy lady myself.

Last night I took home my work laptop and my french maid from ebay (Ironic for a French man:)) and tried with my 3g moden. All was fine. I dont think it was a computer infection.

Strangely enough this is happening for me again, but this time it's rte.ie that is showing me the young lady. Down for everyone, or just me?

    14. Closed Accounts Posts: 31 LeotCol

Yeah your right....it is like that for the rté page too. It only happened for me when I clicked live though. But assuming it will be the same as the ebay page it should be fixed within the next 24 hours.

This is always going to be a problem with Eircom's DNS resolving. Switch over to open DNS, http://www.opendns.com/ , just change the primary and secondary dns settings in your router and you won't have this problem again. Much faster and more reliable than whatever the hell Eircom is using.

I had this problem again last night, I'm still using eircoms DNS servers, but this time it wasn't eBay.ie it was boards.ie that was being redirected. This morning its working fine again.

Good point but afaik its just someone out to prove that Eircoms DNS servers have some security flaw. Only problem is if someone hijacks the hijack and adds a more malicious payload, but if they've managed to get your browser to load a completely different page they could already own you PC if they wanted to.

This happened to me before. I got redirected to a fake ebay page (with a login box) that only appeared when I clicked on a genuine auction

I emailed them to tell them about it and the response was appaling. The lady said that it's not within her department to deal with it. That I need to resubmit my query to them under xyz catgory. Wouldn't mind but I emailed help and support under the subcategory (after I eventually found it) website issues

So I never bothered to reply to her since she obviously didn't care their site was comprimised and when the feedback came I let my feelings be known that I really couldn't give a toss about their inter department politics. I reported what I saw as a major security flaw and they didn't want to know.

If they cant communicate between themselves and get it sorted then that's their business. I filed a report, she could have forwarded it on

Love to see that office if there was a fire, one department would rush to the exit and leave the others there since they don't seem to have grasped the basic concept of communication. Very bad for from a multinational corporation

I think this issue is slightly different. You clicked on a link on an eBay page that took you to a page off eBay and this was of course something that eBay should have sorted out. This issue is with Eircoms DNS servers which are linking eBay.ie (and some other sites) with an incorrect IP address (could be something cleverer?) which takes you to a page which is definitely not eBay.ie, when that happens the easiest fix is just to change the DNS server you are using to one that does not belong to Eircom.

      My bad!

In that case, I would recommend a solution such as www.opendns.com

That would certainly help bypass eircom's DNS servers and get people back up and running :)

I use it myself (on NTL) and it's been brilliant

This could be a lot more serious than it appears on the surface. If, as I believe, the Eircom DNS servers were compromised as a result of the kaminsky flaw, everyone that used them for DNS lookups for the period during which they were compromised could potentially have been the victim of some form of authentication/identity theft.
If it's possible to display a 'french maid' it is equally possible to display a fake login page.
