whats the difference between the standard grip and thicker grip dumbells? I ask because my gym just got a few new thick grip ones and i found it much easier than usual to do dumbell presses, is this just me or do other people find this as well?

should i stick with the thick ones which i can lift more with or go with the standard?

I find the thick grip is easier for overhead presses too, I wrap my handle in a small towel, it also makes it compressible. I have heard a compressible bar might be easier for some people to lift, and works grip more, that is why I thought mine were easier, I have never used a real thick bar.

I have heard people should find them harder, and use them to work the forearms and grip more. There will come a thickness where it will become much harder. I used to have 2 6" long 40mm diameter PVC tubes on my chinup bar to do thickbar chinups, which were a lot harder. So I expect it might depend on the exercise, you might not manage as many curls with the fat bar.

I think a real thick bar is 2" (~51mm) and above, I would stick with the thickbar if it enables you to lift more.
