Hello, does anybody know if Sky already started sending out new cards to their Irish customers? I heard something on tv about it but dont know if they meant Ireland or the UK.

I ordered sky 2 weeks ago and last week I received the new type cards.
Also my local pub got their new card and received the message on screen to change the card during a match on Sunday

Yeah, I've noticed the commercial subscribers seem to be getting their new white cards, but I don't know of any residental subscribers with the new card yet.

I guess, once Sky is happy that the big-money subscribers are OK, they'll then rollout to residential.

How can I find out when they will send me a new card?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,393 ✭✭✭Eurorunner

Just wondering if anyone has gotten a white card in the post yet? I know some folks in england have but wondered if this is happening here right now?

How long will the rollout take? Is it reasonable to expect that everyone will have one within the next 2 months?

The reason I ask is that I need to cancel my Setanta Sub once I know the blue card won't work anymore (Its not registered in my name as i bought it with the box via buy and sell).

They'll send a letter. I got one anyway (NI).

Eurorunner: I've merged your thread with the existing one.

    Thanks.

I'm not going to get the letter due to the card being registered to the original subscriber. Sky don't re-register cards and Setanta won't send out cards. Its a ridiculous situation when I'm a legitimate Setanta Subscriber..

@byte: how long do you have to swap them out? Does it state it in the letter?

Heh, I can't remember what it said on the letter! I got it about 3 weeks ago, gave it a quick glance, and threw it away. No sign of new card yet though. IIRC, a message should pop up on screen telling me to change my card.

Has anyone with an ROI subscription received a letter yet?

I haven't yet & don't know anyone who has. I have been having problems with the sound cutting out for a split second every now & then, but when I take the card out & watch channels with no card in the sound is perfect. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the cards being changed, if so I pray it comes out quick.

I have replaced about 10 cards so far for elderly customers and put in about 20 new installs with the new cards...they started sending them out in Ireland about 2 weeks ago now...

Why? Can you get ITV4 etc on Extra Channels now then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,905 ✭✭✭steveon

You can get all the ITV channels but tuning them into the extra channels...FTV card now only gives u Sky three and FIVER and FIVE US .....all other channels are now possible without the card.

Fiver and FIVE US are rumored to be added to FreeSat sometime between Sept-November...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,744 ✭✭✭kleefarr

    Great. Thanks.

Will need to find the codes somewhere I guess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,062 ✭✭✭dlambirl

So is it right that all new installs from now on will have new cards?

What do these new cards mean??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 749 ✭✭✭waster81

i presume a few security improvements

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,441 ✭✭✭jhegarty

I did notice on Ch 998, there is a line at bottom of screen that says something along the lines of there being only new cards sent out to Pay TV subscribers.

I'd guess that to either mean that FTV cards will continue to work (or get killed, which is more likely), or else you'll get a new FTV card when you send them another ~£20

All new customers are now getting the new white card, a couple of my customers have received the new replacement cards, dont worry you wont lose any tv before receiving them as it will take some time to send them out to every1...

Yeah, I thought I'd have got mine by this stage too.

It had better come soon. I can't afford to have my current card go dead! ;)

I have a FTV card, are they being replaced?
It would seem hardly worth it for the sake of Five US,Fiver and Sky3.Maybe they will continue to work!

do the new cards work in a dreambox? I really dont want to go back to the skybox if at all possible. Seems to be a bit of a mixed bag of ppl getting them working or not..

hmm I've lost all the irish channels over the weekend, the people who were using the box while it happened said the screen said something about a new card, I knew they were rolling them out, but I haven't recieved one :/

I'll ring them tomorrow unless someone knows what the issue is.

Have you tried removing your card, and putting it back in again?

Has anybody reactivated a dormant FTV card ( yellow house) in the last few days? Are they still working?

Yip, i reactivated 2 of them today, put them in on Tuesday night and by 12 o clock thurs all channels (Sky3, Five, Fiver, Five US & Setanta News) were unencrypted on the EPG. Whether these will keep on working is anyones guess.

My card reactivated yesterday afternoon,Sky 3 was the last to come back. I read somewhere that Fiver and Five US will be goning FTA at the end of the year!

A friend of mine has asked me for my blue Sky viewing card when I get my white one. Wont my blue card be useless after it has been replaced? He want's to use it as a FTV card.

Sky know what card number is replacing what card number!

Got my white card yesterday, and have it up and running now.

My old blue one is now in my Technomate receiver, and still works. Probably won't last long, but it's working for now.

Seems that the white card can get fried in put into anything other than a Skybox atm. Mixed reports.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,321 ✭✭✭Foggy43

Mine arrived yesterday also. The old cards will not work in the Skybox that they were removed from. You get a message asking for the new cards to be inserted.

As you say Byte, the old card will work in a Skybox that has not had a white card activated. Again it will be a question of time for the system to catch up with the blue cards.

Mine has worked ok in an Mvision and continued to work when put back in its home SKY box. Meanwhile blue card is doing sterling service in the Mvision for the moment.:)

Sure tis a grand excuse for a few days in the real capital!
This feckin' message about the viewing card is very annoying, it can pop up at any time. I was watching the July cup from Newmarket today and just as they were going for the line up it popped! No way of switching the damn thing off I believe??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,744 ✭✭✭kleefarr

Yep, got mine Wednesday. Working fine so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 654 ✭✭✭Galway

it seems that Rtes 1 & 2, TV 3 and TG4 will now only work on the box they were assigned to? has anyone found this? They could be used in any sky box for ages before.

I am having that problem now. A few days ago I got the message saying to the effect I have the wrong card in my digibox. I have lost all channels except FTA.
I have had the 'Irish' card for years and could put it any box. The 4 channels would work ok. Now this is not the case. I feel it is not worth the risk getting another Irish Card. Maybe a white card has been issued and I have not used it to replace my blue card. The white card is possibly somewhere in Germany.

Since the 'Wrong Card' message I have tried 3 boxes and get the same message. Only thing worth noting is they have had their white cards installed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 654 ✭✭✭Galway

maybe it has to do with the issuing of the new white cards? is anyone with s new card finding the same happens?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,321 ✭✭✭Foggy43

Just to correct something! If I try my blue card in a box that has had it's white card installed the message is or words to the effect 'Please insert your new card'. Any other box and it is the wrong card message.

Aah, that's quite sneaky! So it would seem, when my old blue card (currently being used in my TM6900) needs keys updating, I can not put it into an old Skybox to update the keys again! So, once it goes dead, that's it! :)

Well you are getting free viewing on another box until the entitlements run out so it's hardly sneaky?

Don't forget to ask your friends (especially those with full packages) for their old cards :D

New card received this morning. Activated and working fine - in ANY box again!

Do you really have to have box on 24 hours before replacing? Does anyone know why?

Still waiting for my new card but will you still be able to swap it with a FTV card. My daughter likes to watch Fiver (channel 176) on Saturday and Sunday mornings!

This is so the box and card have been updated with the codes to activate your new card.

I saw it mentioned around here somewhere.
