I was down in Schuh today looking at converse chuck taylors cause everyone says they are good for weightlifting. Well i went to inspect the heel on them and they were literally crap, i could poke my finger into them and see it bulging from the bottom. Is this just Schuhs brand or is that how they are meant to be??

There is no heel that's the point. The sole is very thin. That's why they're good.

Its soft but its so thin that there's nothign there to make you wobble or put you off. It'll feel solid when you put some weight on your back, unlike if you try squatting in an average pair of runners. Btw, look around to find your cons on sale, I got a pair half price one time in sligo, still waiting to find a similar sale so I can get a second pair.

I have never used them my self but I am pretty sure Hanley has (watch his vid‘s) , and the general consensus from the forums seem to be that they are as good as you get with out buying the pro lifting shoes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,640 ✭✭✭podge57

yup, i have those (not in red) and theyre great for squats and deads.
although, most people recommend to buy a size smaller for all stars, so you might be better going somewhere to try a pair on and check first

The red ones are better for squats than the others! :P

The black on blacks looks way more gangsta!

I got a pair of chucks a while back for weighlifting - are quite good. there is no give in the sole when lifting, and are rock solid beneath you. feels way more solid underneath me than the old asics i used to wear.

White ones, turned red from the blood.

I have cheap dunnes knockoffs, not the boot. Like on the right here. Think they were €9

Also I got "aqua shoes" in lidl for about €6. these are a REALLY thin sole. Meant for walking on the beach, they are some quick dry material. I use them for cycling in the rain mainly, less bulky than wellies or putting bags over your feet. Good for the beach too.

I think they have a different type than mine on sale now in lidl, none showing online but I think they were in the booklet.

Strange as it may seem mine were on the floor next to me and yes if you stick your finger into the sole it feels squijjy but they aren't when you wear them.

In other shoe news, my Do-Wins just arrived. Sweeeet.

Chucks... less chance of hurting your foot if you drop something, or stubbing it against a rack or dumbbells!!!

Last FOREVER too. I've had my pair since first year of college.... I did 4 years and they're still going strong.

I know the feeling , don’t worry your not alone ;), we should start a club for people that actually leave the gym the way they found it :)

well it just sickens me the people that load up a bar for squatting/benching with maybe 160kg of plates, do a quarter rep and walk off, leaving the next poor sod to unload it

My pet peve is the guy that leaves 4 set's of dumbbells (all of which where too hevy for him) on the floor next to a bench half a mile away from the rack:rolleyes:
