HI I'm 40 with 2 kids and had abdominal surgery over a year ago. Now perfectly ok but need to get rid of stomach and mid-riff flab. have good diet 90% of the time. What are the best exercises for someone like me? Also any advice on diet?

exercises I would recommend would be cardio machines such as threadmill, crosstrainer, seated bike etc. Good to have a variety in your workout so you dont get bored. These will be good for getting your heart rate up and burning the excess fat! You could also do some weight training to tone the muscles and more importantly in your case, raise the metabolism!

Diet wise, I would simply keep the diet balanced. If your not sure how to do that just have a look at the food pyramid!

Generally good advise bar this bit!
the food pyramid is outdated and way to high in carbs, cut down on carbs, and eat lean proteins, fruit and veg..small portions is key..

Diet wise avoid foods such as white bread, white rice potatoes along with sugary foods. To loose the fat around the middle you have to loose the fat everywhere, you can't reduce the fat in only the areas you want.
I think the most effective way to loose fat is to lift heavy, this will add muscle which will require more calories and this will burn fat

Im kinda new to all this but recently overhauled my diet and exercise. I was a bit daunted coming on here and reading all the posts, some say one thing others say another. I found by reading through all posts on different topics, diet seemed key so i cut out all the rubbish and eat healthy all day, sometimes i cant do the six meal thing but i try as much as possible. I feel alot better within myself too, love my new dinners as opposed to sandwichs.
Exercise wise i now walk in and out of work and go running in the evening.
First nite of Hiit last nite on a football pitch sprinting full length aiming for 10 lengths. did this after my usual run, And goona up the lenghts every time. Havent weighed myself but in only 3 weeks there are slight changes to my physique and not to mention i feel a lot better in myself. Have a good read pick things from different posts and enjoy what you do and eat. Also keeping changing the exercise or route you take.
