If you could pick any job right now and get good employment in it, guaranteed, what would you choose? Taking into consideration pay, personal interest, enjoyment, (and discounting the fact that so many skilled people are out of work, pretend the recession didn't happen), what would you like to be?

    My ideal job : Architect.

    What about you?

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    City planner.
Do I get points for the obscure reference?

In reality; probably one fixing PCs all day.

I do it as a hobby, but it would be nice to be paid for it.
I've no qualifications in the field, but if I need help, I just ask on the tech forums here.
I learn something new every day, so it's really enjoyable.

I'm just short a heat sink and a processor for the new pc I'm building for myself.
Was about to buy a processor off adverts, but the idiot selling it ended up spamming boards and got banned.

    That or Taoiseach.
Great holidays, fantastic pay and you just blame America on the recession.

    Astronaut
Actually jokes aside, that would be a good one. Not the poncy modern still in the upper atmosphere glorified nerd type though. Apollo type astronaut. Actually going out there, beyond earth orbit and putting dirty great footprints on another world and doing great science and inspiration on the back of it. Shít 40 years and we haven't gone back. Mad. Anyhoo....

The OP's one, architect I would like too. With a free reign to build wonderful things. Not the same old same old "Oh look, open plan with glass and a bit of exposed concrete and steel like every other wánker with a ruler, a CAD package and no talent. And wow aren't we clever, lets put a wood facia on the building, it'll look great on the plans for the equally clueless client, but shíte after two years of Irish weather. Oh yea, how much can we charge for this crap again?"

Actually furniture design appeals too. Knocked a few things up over the years. Sadly I can plan and draw it well enough, my skills as a carpenter leave much to be desired. It'll look good, but god forbid you rest a full mug of tea on it, as it'll likely take the house down in the ensuing structural failure.......

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
