How bad an idea is it to take a sugar free red bull before a workout?
in my own logic I can not see much wrong with it.

Also I drink lots and lots of water, but sometimes I get sick of just water and throw in a Vitamin c effervescent tablet, there are some days although rarely where I might end up doing this three times a day, is there a risk of taking in too much of one vitamin?

I am also taking multiple omega 3 supplement tablets, is this ok?
they contain 1000mg of omega 3 fish oil, 180mg of EPa, 120mg of DHA
you can get 45 of them for 2.45 in Aldi btw.

How many is Multiple Omega 3 tablets? Generally I think you can take 3-5 a day without any problems. You can take more if you are doing something like a PSMF (don't recommend!)

Too many of the fizzy Vitamin C tablets may give you the runs. An excess of Vit C on its own can cause loose bowels, and the tablets are usually made using sugar alcohols which have the same effect.

    What's in Red Bull?

Sugar before a workout tends to prevent your body burning fat during it. Take any sugar afterwards, along with some protein.

What's your motivation for drinking this before training? Is it for more energy? If that's the case, I disagree with it. You should be getting all the energy you need for training from your nutrition. If you really want to go down the route of pre-workout drinks, I would suggest Xplode from nutrition X or other such Nitric Oxide and Caffeine/taurine drink (would not advise to take after 5pm if you like sleeping!)

You are only supposed to drink one of those Vit C things a day because that is the maximum amount your body can absorb in supplement form (unless of course you have a cold in which case get the stuff into ya). Your body has to get rid of excess vitamin C and to do so puts a strain on your system, which as Eileen G rightly pointed out can give you a case of the runs.

Again, stick to the amounts listed on the directions, they are listed there for a reason. Too much of anything is not good!

I'm like caffeine proof. It could work decently, but eventually you'll build up a resistance to it.

YEs it is for more energy, but purely as a plan B, as in coming home late from college etc. I take your point about those drinks but dont really want to take too much sugar on board.

Right I don't really understand how the body can tell the difference between whether the vitamins are in supplement form or not, would it be bad to eat too many oranges for eg in one day? or in a day after I took a vitamin C tablet.
Also should I avoid getting vitamin c from multivitamin tablets and then supplements in the one day.

you will prob think this folly but I take vitamin c tablets with zinc before bed to get a better sleep with trippy dreams. maybe I should just buy pure zinc but it was very dear last time I checked in a shop.

Yeah I guess I am just a bit cynical sometimes with those doses. I dont abide by best before dates either, oh well.

Yes, your body can tell the difference between food and supplements. Vitamins in food are digested with the food, at a slow rate. Vitamins in supplements tend to be purer and be digested faster. Not always better.

You'd have to eat a ****load of oranges to get the vitamin C you'd get in one fizzy tablet (yours are 1g each, I assume?). You couldn't physically eat the amount of oranges you'd need to match a few of them. I'm not really worried about getting too much Vit C, you'll just excrete the excess, but the sugar alcohols are hard on your body.

I personally reckon that the optimal dose of fish oil is higher than the one given on the packet, but you can't just knock them back without counting.

I'm defo not! I could easily drink 4-5 cups of coffee in a day without it affecting my sleep too much; i generally don't but could. About 2 years ago I tried the Xplode supplement for a few weeks - i would take it at about 3pm, 45 mins before training and I wouldnt be able to get to sleep til about 1-2am that night, which is a little late for getting up early in the morning. I will say though, the stuff had me training like a lunatic, intensity levels were off the charts! I'm sure you could build up a resistance to it over time but it is a very strong mixture of taurine and caffeine.

Red bull sparks up your mind but i dont think it gives your body energy. I've read that in numerous mags and books. I used to do it myself until i read about it!

Artificial Vitamin C has been known to take longer to be absorbed by the body than normal sources (oranges, tomatoes, strawberries etc.). Alot of research done on it in the US. Again whether you believe it or not is up to you.

After a fairly intensive weekend of boozing, i was feeling a little tired and disinterested about the gym this morning, so i tried knicking back a redbull to see if it helped.

One of the strangest workouts of my life. I felt like my heart was going to explode after 5 mins warm-up on the cross trainer, and it didn't feel much better when squatting.

On my bench, at the start of the third set i couldn't lift the bar off the rack. i stopped, took a couple of breathes, and went again - powered the bar off the rack and then did five full reps and got my PB.

My hands were also shaking throughout the workout too, felt a little bit strange. Overall, i would not recommend Redbull when working out. Not sure if it helped me performance wise, but from the way my heart felt throughout, i don't think its healthy anyway. I would say avoid!

gotta say I'm pretty fond of a red bull before a workout for those days when I'm a bit tired, also about 200-300mg of caffeine before a workout has been proven to have a positive effect on strength levels.

Tried some pre-workout supps before and they were great for the first week but wore off after a while.

I can't believe ppl react to something as tame as redbull like that.

I wanna get my hands on some ephedrine. It's meant to be like real rocket fuel!!

The weird thing is, stick it in a glass with some jager/vodka, and i can knock them back all night. Maybe it just reacted badly with the heavy concentration of alcohol in my system after the weekend!

I've tried a few of the NO products, NO Xplode (before it was banned), Nutrition X Xplode and NO Shotgun, the latest version of which seems to be the best, at least for me.

It definately could benefit from cycling as you do build up a tolerance to it.

As for fish oils, I'd take as much as 10g some days. Depends really. Balance is again the key there.

I've been taking Guarana extract (500-750mg) before training for a while now, great stuff, just don't expect to sleep any time in the next week.

But bear in mind that, like caffeine, your body will develop a tolerance to it, I'm currently on an off cycle. Just make sure you don't actually taste it though, it's not nice at all.

Where did you buy it nate?

Where did you buy it nate?

Got it from MyProtein. Costs next to nothing too which is nice.

    Nate

Edit:- Best taken with a small amount of OJ with the Guarana dropped in, head back and swallow whole, that way you don't actually taste it.

if the sugar free red bull is needed to get you going, then do it. it's just a little bit of a boost. sometimes you might even need the sugar. the difference between all of these energy drinks and a soda is ... about 2 EUR anyhow.

i thrive on coffee pre training and have an ephedrine as needed or sometimes two. the rest of that stuff isn't going to bother you either.

the bottom line is that if it works for you - then do it.
