I had formulated a fantastic basis for this question but the aul' philosophy is driving me mental and my brain is fried soooooo therefore, does it matter when using a hook grip which hand is supinated and which is pronated?? mine own grip appears to be the opposite of everybody else's!!

Also my deadlift set up looks very similar to that of a clean w/r to stance, hand position etc.. which is undoubtedly affecting stuff but i couldn't be arsed fixing it and am not sure why im telling ye!!:)

No it does not matter, use what feels comfortable, i change hands each set just to be used to lifting without thinking about it.

i do so occasionally too in warm up sets, i think i was asking the PLers because they all seem to use the same grip as far as i can tell

I have read in an article that you should switch hands regularly...something about possibly tearing a bicep; that said, the same article recommended never arching your back when benching

if i ever deadlift heavy enough to worry about tearing a bicep i'll gladly accept the consequences:rolleyes:

Are you talking about an actual hook grip, I always thought both hands were oriented the same with that kind of grip.

Anyhow if you are using a mixed grip you will probably have a preference for one setup. I like right under, left over. Something that I have noticed is if I hit a plateau or loose my groove, changing my grip to left under, right over for a couple of sessions can help.

Personally I like to switch hands every set. It seems logical to me for some reason.

I use left hand under, right hand over. Which is the opposite to what most use.

    Doesn't matter a damn really.

What's the story with your stance?

Personally I'm looking at my stance too and I'm seriously considering switching to sumo.

Me too re: left hand and right hand.

My stance came about after id had a teeny bit of OLy coaching when istarted lifting first, and i used to do alot of Powercleans at the time, so basicaly i started with cleans and moved on to deadlifts. You have to bear in mind there was no one very progressive in my gym and i just made stuff up as i went along and generally winged it!!

least i aint afraid of squatting :P

all jokes aside...no its conventional double over hand pulling....im about 40-50kg weaker pulling like this than i am with the reverse grip....

I have my bad hand facing away from me.. simply because it's a good way of strengthning my weaker side if that makes sense!

Why you want to go sumo, is it your back or something else? Curious...

    +1

    Sumo raw is awfully ghey.

    :(

Just because you're short and don't get the carry over of a smaller rom doesn't mean they're ghey... (yeah I went there! :P)

Well I figure it might help with whole dormant glutes lower back issue yeah. It seems to be more hips and glutes whereas I can't seem to stop lifting 90% of the load with one small muscle in my right lower back when I pull conventional.

Bear in mind I've never even tried sumo. I just really wanna!

You're just concerned about the confusing feelings me bending that way in front of you will cause.

I think sumos are great, just interested to see how you'll get on with them. Although perhaps you'll find that that one muscle in your lower back is actually better than your glutes!! I don't know how long your legs are but you can knock several inches off your rom for a start and I think squat training might give even more carry over if you have your feet in the same or close to the same position in both lifts. I've been thinking about shifting back to it so I want to see how this works out for you.

I'm just worried for your sake at comps when you bend that way. You're liable to get hopped...
