Just started using eyeliner recently (never really got into it before, but am now a convert :)) - I bought a Miss Sporty one to practise with, which was cheap, it fades quite quickly and also clumps up at inside corners of my eyes which I hate!

Can anyone recommend a good one which has staying power and doesn't clump?

You might want to try a liquid eyeliner, way better than pencil ones. Boujois, rimmel or maybelline do good ones.
It will need a bit of practice but it is worth it.
From experience I've found that pencil ones wear off very fast which is why I use liquid ones.
Once you get used to it liquid eyeliners are really easy to use. Just make sure to dab the excess liquid onto a tissue or if you are a real pro on to the edge of the tube it comes in :)

    Thanks for that :)

Yeah, I dunno why, but liquid eyeliner scares me, lol!

Also, I only ever put eyeliner on my lower lid - it just seems to smudge everywhere on the upper! Any tips?

MAC Cosmetics do the best one, baby. They're long-wearing and come in such rich colours, including the most sultry black I have ever seen in my days!! xx

I find it's easier to start half way along the lid of the eye. Usually I start half way & work my way out towards the end of the eyelash & fill in the inner eye afterwards without dipping the brush again because to get the Audrey Hepburn look the outside of the eye has the thickest line.
Also remember if you have eye lids that are a bit moist that it is better to keep the line as thin as possible.
No matter what I do my eyes tend to get a bit 'greasy' looking, my eyes get oily regardless of what product I use. So the thinner the line the better it lasts.
It's all about practice. Don't be too worried about getting it wrong, we all did. But invest in a cheap liquid eyeliner & try it out. Once you are happy with what you are doing get a brand that lasts a few hours & hit the town!
I'm currently looking into getting semi permanent eyelashes by the way. My friend got them & they look fantastic. She doesn't need to use eyeliner anymore because the new eyelashes do that job.
Might be worth looking into. I think they cost approx €150 & last for about 12 weeks. Worth it if you have a few things coming up. Although they are addictive!!!!!

MAC engraved is brilliant....but be sure to make certain it is the engraved one because sometimes they give you 'smoulder' which is horribly smudgy...

Think you still need eyeliner with the lash extensions to be honest.

And they don't last 12 weeks; they have to be filled every 2 weeks or so to keep them looking their best.

they are very nice; but they do ruin your own lashes, regardless of what anybody says to you.

Estee Lauder and Lancome do very nice black kohl pencils too by the way;)

Ya liquid is the way to go. As long as you close your eyes for half a minute until it dries to avoid it creating a stripe on your upper eye from looking around, it's pretty much immovable, and always gives a much more dramatic effect.

I generally use a Boots No 7 one, it has a smudger on it which is very handy. If you're looking for something a bit softer than black, I recommend the 'Teddy' colour in the Mac eyeliner. It's a lovely brown.

ooh i really liked Smoulder by MAC!! For cheaper ones you just can't beat Rimmel!

I find that eyeliners such as MAC fluid line or Stilla Smudge pots, when applied with the right brush are fantastic. Easier than a normal liquid liner and last just as well without smudging! I would recommend the smudge pots first as the are more a thick cream than a liquid and so are great for starters. The MAC one is a gel so its a little bit trickier for starters!

Good luck with it....i could never part with my eyeliner now!! :)

If liquid eyeliner and you are not the best of buds try a gel eyeliner. Bobbi Brown, Mac, Stila and smashbox do them. I cant use liquid as its way too harsh on me but absolutely love gels.

If you are starting out I would really recommend getting one of these as it has tons of colours and the product is really good. They are over €30 in the shops so ebay is the way to go. The little brush that comes with it is even good.

+1 their liquid eyeliner is really similar to MAC's Liquidlast and significantly cheaper. Beautiful colours.

I prefer my liquid liner with a felt tip applicator ordinarily though, so I like Rimmel's Exaggerate Liquid Liner. :)

Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner is BRILLIANT!!! I was so crap at putting on eyeliner until I bought this plus you can get a duo pack- one pot of black and one sepia pot which is really nice

Right, I was ina rush yesterday, and I was in Debenhams - all their Bourjois and GOSH eyeliners were v limited in stock, couldn't find a black one or one that hadn't been already opened. So I opted for an IsaDora eyeliner pencil:

Think that's it anyway! Cost me a tenner.

It's one of those twisty ones...which I didn't realise @ the time...I rather the ones you can pare!

As far as pencil eyeliner goes its gosh ones all the way but for night time i use bobbi browns gel eyeliner which is an absolute god sent! Twas a present from a funky aunty and at first i was like how the hell am i gonna use this but its actually surprisingly easy to use and practice does indeed make perfect. It's a good bit thicker than the MAC one but i prefer it because it goes on easier.

By the by, have to say the biggest trick to getting to gel eyeliner just right is buying a good brush and a few cotton buds dont go astray either for mistakes. Wouldn't go out at night without it!:D

Going on the recs here, I went last night and bought a Gosh velvet touch black eyeliner, and I was very impressed :D Way better than my Mac one (not smudging onto bottom lid) but I do still like my Christian Dior kohl. But for 7 euro Gosh is a steal and I might try out a few different colours for the first time :pac:

Clinique 'Cream Shaper' for eyes. Shades Egyptian and Starry Plum are my favourites. Pencil liner that you sharpen, creamy consistancy goes on like a dream, stays put & lasts all day.

Big fan of Gosh myself... and Bourjois metallic pencils are impressive. I have so many different colours I need to stick with cheaper brands, and I find Gosh pretty much on par with MAC eyeliners if not better.

+1 I have chocolate lustre and it's gorgeously smooth on and not smudgy at all.

I only ever put eyeliner on my lower lid - it just seems to smudge everywhere on the upper! Any tips?

    - Look into a mirror when you're applying (might seem obvious, but you know!)

    - Steady your arm and hand (rest your elbow on something)

    - Use one hand to gently pull the outer corners of your eye out so your upper lash line becomes straightened, making it easier to paint on your eyeliner.

    - Draw along the lashline.

    - If you make any mistakes, use a cotton bud to take it off - cotton buds are also good for smudging your eyeliner, for a sexy, smokey look.

    - I always draw over my liquid eyeliner with a kohl eyeliner pencil - I find it stays on all day when I do this.

    - If you're using pencil eyeliner and you're finding it hard to apply, blast some warm air from a hair-dryer onto the pencil to soften it.

    :)

    As for my recommendations of which eyeliner to choose ;

    Rimmel for liquid.
    Bourjois for pencil.

There's also the option of using a wet eyeshadow brush and eyeshadow to create your own liquid-powder combo...!

Benefit's Babe Cake, which has both black and brown shadows, is a brilliant little thing! :D

    T

Eyelids tend to be greasy so make sure you matte your lids with neutral eye shadow or face powder before applying your liner.

Also, make sure your pencil is sharpened. ;)

MAC powerpoint pencils are good. And then the gel eye liners MAC and Gosh are both good if you can master using a brush, which just needs practise!
