No you shouldn't bother people were getting ripped, big and into every other sort of shape imaginable well before supplements were even thought about. You don't need them but they can help.

Just about every thread on here says that there's little or no need for supplements until you have your diet sorted out perfectly and then you hit a wall with training. From then they can help a lot rather than having to eat a ****load.

Why don't you try them and make your own informed opinion rather than doing what strangers on the internet tell you?

    http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055324792

    anyway...

a lot of people seem to take them but are they getting results.

lets say a person just hasnt the time to eat there calorie requirement each day. should they just fill the gap with supplements?

i suppose i could but thats what forums are for. getting other peoples opinions

its very hard to find out what supplements i should take. if i go into a shop that sells them they generally point out the most expensive one

i suppose theres no real way of telling whats the best ones. a lot of people seem to judge, simply by taste

Anyone who is getting results is putting the work in.

If you put the work in and take supplements will you get results? Yes.
If you sit on your hole and take supplements will you get results? No.

    definitely agree with that anyway.

to be honest ive gotten good results without using them.

no harm in trying them out for a couple of months and see what happens.

That’s a very general question. It would be good to start with you current training program, diets, goals and what supps you are thinking about trying.

Do the research on places like pubmed.com and try your self. Every one has a different build, metabolizing, training methods, sleep diet etc only you can tell if they work for you.

Just beware of all the marketing hype in the glossy training mags for way over priced supps. Those mags are all backed by supps companies. Shop around and use the bulk sellers etc.

    Good luck !

Dude - what do you expect.

As you said, the forums are great for getting other peoples opinions. opinions vary from person to person, and will depend on the individual's own experience. You will never ever get consistent opinions. On any topic. If you were to ask us right now what colour is the sky you would contradictions. Cést la vie.

At the end of the day, you just have to try and make an informed decision and then see what works for you. If you say you are seeing good results without them, then stick at what you're at. If you feel you need an edge, give em a go.

Either way, ultimately, there will only be one judge as to whether they improve you're performance - you!

If you haven't used any supplements before then just start with a simple whey protein powder. They are all almost exactly the same in quality (perhaps not in taste) so go with the best value for money. I think whey is great because its a cheap source of high quality protein and I find it hard and expensive to get enough protein from wholefood alone. However if you only weight 70kg (for instance, I don't know) its a lot easier to get the amount of protein you want on a daily basis. If you are just beginning to investigate supplements then you should step back from asking the question "do I need this or not?" and just read up on what each product is, what they do for people, etc, and at the same time have a look at your training, your goals, and any weak links in that plan. Consider also how long you've been training and whether you honestly believe you have plateaued or you just need to change your regime.

Simple as this - supps will help. They won't produce results.

Unless you're busting your b0llocks in the gym and eating very well the rest of the time, you won't see the results you want, no matter now many pills, powders and supps you use.

Trust me - I tried protein and Animal products years ago before I had a clue how to eat or workout properly. Waste of time and money.

Supplements are designed with the intention of aiding you and not for you to take them sit on your arse and hey 2 weeks later you have the body you aways wanted. I bloody wish.

Supplements will only work in conjunction with A) a reasonabley clean diet B) a good training program whether your goal is to build muscle or loss weight C) rest

Proably missing one or two things there but you all get the idea. When someone comes into me asking "which protein should I take" the first question I ask them is "what is your diet like" you would be surprised to hear some of the answers I do get.

Like I saw mentioned further back in this thread, make sure that you have your diet just about shorted, your training is in order and rest, then have a look at taking supplements.

Remember the word supplement means to make up for a deficiency; to add on to. I use supplements as a supplement and not as a food source

look I agree with what everybody is saying about getting diet and training sorted first and that once you've done this you might not need any supplements, having said that I find protein shakes are just too convenient and cheap to ignore. the last thing i want to do after a tough workout is eat a couple of chicken breasts!

If you still want to try something figure out what your goal is and then read up on the relevant supplements here
    www.bodybuilding.com/fun/bbmainsupp.htm

theres a wealth of info on that site and all over the web, google is your friend!

once you know which supplements you're after the hard part is done, eg do you just want protein or a mix of protein and creatine etc, next just try find a brand that has as many relevant ingredients as you can for eg ON whey has glutamine + protein, but not creatine

as recently discussed on this forum the bigger name companies tend to have higher quality products but there are always exceptions... the hydroxycut recall springs to mind

if you want feedback try these (but the reviews tend to be preoccuppied with taste)
    http://reviews.bodybuilding.com/Brand_Listing
    http://www.thesupplementrating.com/sbb.php

bottom line supplements are handy and could help but you'll only get the most out of them if everything else is sorted

sites like www.bodybuilding.com/fun/bbmainsupp.htm can be good for some info but they over hype a lot of stuff as their main revenue comes for selling supps.

    Good luck
