2009 Hurling Championship Pools

04-05-2009 10:15pm#1Welcome to the hurling pools for the 2009 Championship. Cruiserweight has asked me to take charge of this for the summer, so I'll be trying my best to keep this updated as much as I can throughout the next 3-4 months. The rules will be the exact same of the football pools, but in case you've no interest in the big ball sport, make sure you read the following before entering your predictions.
- Use the template posted in the next post to make your predictions.
- As with last year there will be bonus points for predicting the final score as well as the winner.
- All predictions must be made at the same time. A further round of predictions will be done when we know the draws for the latter stages of the Leinster/Ulster Championships, as well as the All Ireland quarter finals.
- People may enter the competition late but obviously will have forfeited points for games already decided
- New entries will only be valid if entered the day before matches start (ie. No entries on May 10th will be counted for that day no matter how early they are done)
- If a post is edited, the date of the edit will be used and any points gained previously will not count
So the points:
- 2 points for predicting the correct winner of a match-up (after a replay if necessary)
- 1 bonus point for predicting the score to within 2 points (for the first game, i.e. not the replay)
- 1 bonus point for predicting each provincial finalist
- 2 extra bonus points for predicting the correct provincial winner
- 3 bonus points for each correctly named qualifier
From the quarter finals:
- 4 points for predicting the correct winner of a match-up (after a replay if necessary)
- 2 bonus points for predicting the score to within 2 points (for the first game, i.e. not the replay)
- 2 extra bonus points for correctly predicting the All-Ireland winners
- 2 bonus points for correctly predicting the All-Ireland finalists

Format it as follows please:
1: Wexford v Dublin = Wexford - 20 points
There is one difference between this and the football pools, however. As most of you know, the draw for the semi finals of the Leinster Championship will not be taking place until after the quarter finals. The same also applies to the Ulster SHC after the first 2 rounds. With that in mind, I'm suggesting the following:
If you predict a team to win a quarter final match but they lose, you CANNOT predict the winners of that match to win any more matches in Leinster or Ulster.
For example, if you predict Dublin to defeat Antrim in the quarter finals, but Antrim win, you MUST predict Antrim to lose the semi final against whoever they are drawn against.
Me and Cruiser have talked about this, and the way we see it is that it keeps the pools consistent. If you predict a team to lose a Leinster quarter, you are also obviously predicting them to not win a Leinster title. So it would be unfair to predict them to win a semi final when just a week or two earlier you had said they would not win a match.
This is the way we see it, but I'm open to debate about this. If you strongly feel this is the wrong way to go, can you let us know in the All Ireland Football and Hurling Pools Discussion Thread 2009. I want to keep this thread for predictions only until the Championship starts in a few weeks.
For know though, let me reiterate: do NOT fill in matches yet to be drawn (aka, TBC in the match sheet). I will be posting the latter stages of the Leinster/Ulster matches here for predictions the moment the draw is made.
