Since Friday night when I was on a holiday webite checking out deals all of a sudden my AVG 8.50 update manager won't work anymore - all the other icons are active eg web shield, firewall etc.

When I click on 'update now' - It looks like it is going to update and then it states ' access is forbidden by the server'. What is wrong?

I have checked in servers numbers etc as it suggested through troubleshooting etc.

Can anyhow help out? I have sent my problem off to them on Friday night but they are off till tomorrow Tuesday due to bank holiday.

i'd try uninstalling it with AVG remover, downloading fresh install and re-installing.

alternatively, try comodo or avira antivirus

better again if you paid for nod32 or kaspersky, you won't be disappointed.

or wait for response from avg

I paid for Avg 8.5 for a year and only bought it in March so I am not going to get another one till I see if I can get this one fixed. I would be afraid to use AVG remover as then I will lose my licence numbers etc and then how would I reinstall it then without having to pay again. I know there is a free AVG product but I want this 8.5 version considering I paid for it.

did you receive email with key?

perhaps the key will be left in the registry untouched so re-installing might be ok.

obviously it doesn't help for me to say this, but avg wouldn't be my first choice in buying a virus scanner.

i looked up where the license info might be stored.

Application Data is a hidden folder. You have to show hidden files and folders from windows explorer. When you open My Computer, click Tools> Folder Options> View tab and under Hidden Files and Folders, tick the radio button: Show hidden files and folders.
    Then Apply and OK.

Then you should be able to find the AVG8.5 and Grisoft folders.

Check under All Users and your own profile in C:\Documents and Settings.

if you backup these folders, then re-install avg and copy them back, that might work..
