So I pre-ordered the new Green Day album on iTunes and after hearing the one song ( Know your enemy) it seems alright. I just hope that it will be like the older stuff (Dookie!) although I didnt hate American Idiot I thought the older stuff was better.

    What do Y'all think?

That you're retarded to think they'll EVER produce anything like Dookie again. "Know Your Enemy" is ****, as are the 2 other tracks I've heard. American Idiot was good but was far too popular for them to be able to reconcile. Their next studio album was always going to be crap because they made a concept record and don't have anything to follow that with. They went too far in one direction and can't find where they're supposed to be now. Forget their new record, just listen to Insomniac again.

I hold out slightly more hope than Nervous Wreck. It probably won't be as good as American Idiot, but not worse than Warning! I haven't heard Know Your Enemy so can't comment there, but I'm always quite happy to hear new Green Day songs whatever the direction/popularity/other. I'm sure I'll enjoy listening to it. I'm not expecting it to be like any of their other albums though.

I thought my hopes might be too good to be true, although I think it should be at least ok, because I do enjoy listening to all their songs. As they're just very easy to listen to I think.

Oh well because I pre-ordered I get 22 songs... whats that like 50c a song! Good value really...

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 6,525 Mod ✭✭✭✭dregin

Eh......... 50c for an mp3?? How the hell is that good value? It isn't like a CD or vinyl with packaging, that has to be delivered. Fair enough the file is hosted but the cost of that is a fraction of what people pay for it.

Paying more than €1 for an album of MP3s is completely retarded.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 261 ✭✭Liathroidi Dana

1 euro for an album your joking me!

The artists deserve something for their work, so if you support your favourite band yuo'd be willing to pay full price for their album. I am getting the CD for 4-5 euro cheaper than usual also with the handiness of being able to just download it. And I should be paying for the music not the effing packaging!

Also just say I buy a song for 50c and I listen to it 3 times thats only like 4c per minute of enjoyment. Deal!

Btw just wondering where on earth do you buy albums for less than a euro?

I don't buy MP3s full stop. I'd be willing to pay full price for a piece of vinyl or a CD.

Greenday are gonna sell a few million of this record. €1 per sale is a few million of mostly hard profit.

WTF are 3 guys gonna do with a few million?

You're right. I pay for music. I don't pay for someone to have 10 ferraris, 4 castles and 20 partridges in pear trees.

First off I believe they only have 17 Partridges... :D

No that statement I do agree with, as I personally do sometimes download songs and that illegally, but only to see what they are like as a band. And I do think that some musicians are wrong to expect all the profits for their art.
All I'm saying is that I think that 10 euro (DRM Free) is very value for something that will give endless amounts off enjoyment. And I do think that 50 per song is reasonable, as Music is their profession and therefore should get a reasonable amout for their music.

I personally do think that its better to have the product in hand rather than just a Mp3 file, but all in all the convience of downloading music is a big plus and especially if its a at a discounted price.

From the songs i've heard, it just sounds like a continuation of American Idiot. 'Know Your Enemy' reminded me too much of 'Jesus of Suburbia'...it's all a bit monotonous now.

listened to the album twice so far, 1st opinion is that its american idiot light, very similar in sound only i really doesn't work as well second time around :(

I liked american idiot alot i have to admit even though i suppose like a lot of folks preferred older stuff. Just nothing on this that just out at me on the 1st few listens.

Might be a grower , but right now i really havent the will to hear it again soon.

I just downloaded it there, I think it's amazing. Every song seems to have such a relevant purpose...even if the characters bear similar resemblances to St Jimmy and Whatsername. The only song I'm not particularly mad on is 21 Guns.

My friend gave me a copy the other night; I think it's way less in your face than American Idiot. Although I don't agree with Know Your Enemy being the first single released.

But they're not even as good as they used to be....not gonna bother going to the show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 261 ✭✭Liathroidi Dana

Hmm just one Q... where the hell is everyone getting and downloading the album??

    iTunes says 15th...

    Oh child....

It begins with T and ends in orrent.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 325 ✭✭lint316

Yeah its out tomorrow. I heard a preview of it on their web site. I think its brilliant I have to say. Its a power-pop album not a punk album. Its a concept album like AI, based on Tommy again I presume. Shouldn't really be spoken about in the punk forum though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,148 ✭✭✭ciano1

AFAIK.. Restless Heart Syndrome is the next single from the album :D

Seems like that is the "boulevard of broken dreams" of this album.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 187 ✭✭xIsabelx

I would have thought 21 Guns was the BOBD of the album.

I heard that was the next single to come out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 261 ✭✭Liathroidi Dana

Well I got the album and have listened to all the songs at least twice... and well I'm not overly impressed. Its very bland or something and they all sound quite samey, my fave sone is prob ¿Viva la Gloria? (Little Girl) and Peacemaker..

    Out of 10: 6 and a half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭Censorsh!t

Half the songs are fecking ballads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,521 ✭✭✭francois

    it's more pop then punk

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 187 ✭✭xIsabelx

I wouldn't call Green Day punk at all, they just aren't....not from the original 1970's standards anyway.

    Corporate, millionaire standards maybe

They're still my favourite band though

Love this album, especially 21 Guns, Restless Heart Syndrome, ¡Viva La Gloria! and Last Night On Earth ... It is quite ballad-y but I like it!

So upset that I didn't get tickets for the O2 though :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 187 ✭✭xIsabelx

    ^ **** buzz. :(

I got presale tickets for Dublin and Manchester...and then just general admission for Belfast. (God bless the Idiot Club presales!)

hope you get something sorted out! Although they're selling tickets for €200 a piece in the buy and sell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 231 ✭✭pfannkuchen

I know - total madness, saw 2 tickets for €250 on eBay the other day (I was getting desperate and actually considered buying them for a second :p) It's times like this that I wish I had thought of joining that to get the tickets... I'll know for next time I guess!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll find something though - thanks :)

I can't stand the new GD album. It's crap; nothing more, nothing less. It's sad now that everyone seems to like them when they're crap. I miss Dookie. :(
And "Know Your Enemy" took the title of a song from a REAL band with skill!

Listening to it now and have done about once a week since it came out, folks say its like american idiot in way, but i did like that , this i really just cant buy into , it weak at best imo , not for me but can see why folks like it.

love the new album, did'nt think it would live up to the greatness of A.I.,but for me it certainly does, can't wait to see them in october!:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 187 ✭✭xIsabelx

Why do people constantly make reference to Dookie? 15 years ago, ffs. I'd hate if they were still like that now...it's get so boring and it would really show up a lack of diversity and capability to explore different styles.

What? You're allowed to have your own opinion. I don't agree with it, but who am I to eat you alive, just because you don't like them?

Love Green Day, and 21st Century Breakdown is one hell of an album. Not quite as good as American Idiot, but pretty close!
