Well, what does everybody keep in their gloveboxes while driving?

    I'll start, I have....

    - ipod, which is connected to the head unit
    - case for the face of the stereo
    - road map
    - pen, paper, and disposable camera in case of an accident
    - a very very small torch
    - and a demistifier pad which is never used as it leaves streaks on the window, it's only still in the glovebox in case the air fans pack it in on a rainy day!

I don't have a glovebox, so can't keep anything in it

Clutter. Nothing but bloody clutter. Used batteries, bills, canvass cards received from politicians. There is probably a ham sandwich in there somewhere if if bother to look. Glove compartments should be banned from cars.

Van: The handle broke off 70,000km ago; I hope there's nothing particularly nasty in there!

Not a good thing to keep in the car. If somebody robs the car, they can change it into their own name!

I've often wondered if it's a good or bad thing to carry with me.
Thanks for making my mind up, I'll take it out this very minute. :)

Better safe than sorry :) If somebody robbed the car, they could pretend to be you and sell the car on, and it would cause you and the new owner a lot of trouble!

About 7 maps of Ireland, most of which are so old they show no motorway, or maybe small sections of M50, an out-of-date map of Dublin, a "spare" bulb that's actually blown I think, a remote control for a DVD player I don't even have anymore, various crumpled plastic bags (can never have enough of them), a handful of napkins from McDonalds, a selection of pens - none of which work, a notepad from a place I worked in 7 years ago to write on with the non-working pens and some free Daily Mail CDs (which were free for a very good reason).

I always carry all that stuff in any car I drive, even though none of it - literally none of it - is any use whatsoever. :D

No. You'll probably find it useful when you have a puncture! Once it's locked safely inside the car then it's as safe as it needs to be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,919 ✭✭✭Schism

The book that came with the car.
    Some Cds.
    A Broken watch.

    Notepad and pen

    Normally very little or nothing.

Currently - my current insurance disc (haven't gotten to scraping the old one off the windscreen), receipt for online tax payment (disc up is out 2 days), NCT booking, expires next Thursday and nearest appointment is Friday fortnight.

My mam has gloves in there, and there was a belt and spare bulbs in there until today when I put them in their rightful places, (bedroom floor and boot).

I keep the phone charger and sat nav in the armrest.

    Dash/screen wipes
    SatNav

    Sunglasses
    Spare mobile phone
    Multi-phone charger

Boot: Tools, air compressor, warning triangle, hi-viz waistcoat, 5 litre fuel container (empty), wipers, jacket, washer fluid, 1 litre oil, etc. etc.

Nothing in the glovebox and always open when car is parked so no one has temptation to break the window and check what I have there.

In the car, some maps, car manual, not much more.

In the boot I have a spare tyre + tools for that, my tools collection, disposable camera, oil, coolant, washer liquid etc.

Bit paranoid with the empty, open glove box, imo. Do you really have a spare tyre as well as a spare wheel in your boot. Belt and braces! :D
