Well unfortunently you can't "spot train" that is you cant work on losing weight from just one area.
The best way to lose fat is to do weights. You wont see the results on the scales as fast as if you run becuase you will be building mussle and losing fat. The best thing about weights is that your body will burn fat more readily even when you are just sitting on the couch cause mussle burns more calories than fat.
The other thing you could do is ease up on the pints but that's no fun:D

I've read a fewe articles in Mens Health magazine and it seems that the best way to eat up calories is to do sharp and short exercises. For example instead of going for an 30 minutes jog at moderate pace. Run 15 minutes very fast (or as fast as you can) with rest periods.

A good exercise format is run as fast you can for 1 minute then rest one minute. Do this fifteen times (or as many times as physically possible).

Don't make the mistake of just doing weights in the gym as this will tone but doesn't eat a lot of calories!!

    Good luck!

Ah yes. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Dshakey, you're 6'1 and at only 10 stone are underweight for your height...i find the fact that you say you can't see your belt very worrying...

A few years ago i was down to 10 stone at 6 foot and was convinced that i still had a belly, probably because there was no six pack there but when i look back at myself in pictures, i was literally a stick...

What i'm trying to say is try and look at the whole picture, perhaps you need to add muscle and clean up your diet...you certainly don't need to lose any more weight...I've put on 3 stone of muscle since, and have never been fitter or stronger in my life...All the best...

Personally while I don't deny that weights will help you loose weight I feel that in the long term cardio is more sustainable for my lifestyle. When I do loose all of the fat I need to loose I intend to keep up the exercise. Perhaps that will include weights but more than likely it will take the form of running in the open air or attending the classes in the gym.

The reason why I concentrate more on cardio now more so than the weights comes down to the fact that I much perfer cardio. In the long term I would like to be able to stay away from the gym and excercise outdoors.

The reason why people become over weight in the first place is because of their lifestyle so it is what needs to change. If I was encouraging anybody to lose weight I would encourage them to do some weights but I would empahise that while the exercise now (during the weight loss mode) might be more intense than normal it will be something that you will have sustain. With that in mind I would say to them try do something you like.

From reading many of the posts in this forum it is clear that many of you are passionate about lifting and personal fitness is more than just a pastime. However for many, if not most, it is not something they are not going to sustain throughout their life beyond the weight loss mode. I admire people who are able to spend days, weeks, months and years lifting because it certainly takes some commitment. A commitment I, like many, wouldn't be prepared to give.

    How much do you drink?

You sound like a fellow I know: skinny as a rake everywhere except for a small bit of a pot belly. He drinks a fair bit.
    • Drink less alcohol. This goes straight to your pot belly.
    • Do weights (compound exercises: squat, deadlift, shoulder press, bent over row, pull ups, bench press) to put a bit of muscle on your frame
    • Do a bit of cardio afterwards to burn additional calories. If you are skinny you don't want to be burning too much here.

Give more detail of your diet.

ok not seeing my belt was a bit over kill, i can see it. it just feels like my tummy is hugh!!

i am just about in a heathly BMI (just) i do try to eat heathly, given up eating chocalate and crisps during the working day to eating nuts and seeds starting to grow on me the taste that is.. :)
not a lover of the gym but i guess i need to make myself like it, sometimes it though getting over there but once i am there i a m fine.. onyl spend about 30-40 minutes then get bored.
do about 15 min spriting on the thread mill. then some free weights and then upper body wieght machines. i have no routine. usual do 3*6 but i think this is not enough.

my diet at the moment is alot of carbs, have cut well back on dairy for the moment to see if that was cuasing the bloating.
i guess i just need some advice to a routine...
