    Hi All

I am going to buy some dumbells in Argos and see that there are Cast and Chrome options. Chrome are more expensive.

From previous experience with what I think were Cast iron dumbells I remember the spinlock type nuts constantly coming loose and the plates banging around the place. Are cast iron dumbells more prone to this or what is the difference if any between the two types ?

    any feedback appreciated, thanks

The only difference is the risk of rust, the die cast rust easier if left in a shed, only get the chrome if you have extra money to spare..

My york argos plates have rusted a little, you could always repaint them with hammerite, my irishlifting plates are still in perfect nick, the paint job seems much thicker and proper paint suited to metal, seems more like hammerite.

I would get the full 50kg set in argos you will outgrow the 20kg dumbbells very quickly.

it is only €75 now, the 20kg set is €46.79, so under €30 more for 30kg of steel including the barbell. Also you get 5kg plates which you will eventually need for the dumbbells.

There will be no difference between chrome & black for the clanging. The spinlocks I got have rubber inserts, to tighten them properly once the spinlock is on as hard as you can then hold onto the plates themselves on the outer radius and twist them, you have far more torque doing this, go easy as it can be hard to get off again.
