Our next race is the RTE 5 mile road race at Donnybrook next Saturday 2 May 2008. Combined start at 11.00am.

Registration at the RTE Sport and Social Club. Go into the RTE campus from Nutley Lane and you will be directed down to the car parks near the Sports Club.

More details from Niall Mathews 2082591(w) Jim Carraher 2084140(w). .

This is always an enjoyable and popular event so make sure you turn up early to enter, particularly if you have not already registered as a BHAA member in 2009.

The race entry fees are €10 for members and €15 for non-members. Non-members are encouraged to sign up as members and this costs only €15 for the year. Being a member means

    (a) that you don't have to fill in a form every time you come to a race;

    (b) that the production of results after a race is quicker as all your details are already in the member database; and

    (c) that you will be eligible for team prizes (after your first race as a member) even if you are the only one from your organisation in the BHAA.

So get there early on Saturday or sign up for membership only online HERE

Remember online applications must be in 48 hours before the race

I might do this actually seeing I'm not going to Leeds this weekend.

for all you "fair city" fans out there, the race finishes on the main street of carrigstown, i.e: the outside filming set within RTE. There is no prize for the first person to ask " are you going for a pint in mckoys later!?" :D

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

Does Fair City have any fans?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 669 ✭✭✭emerald007

if "fair city" was a running event, which one would it be?

The Artic Marathon is The Wire. The best running event that nobody's watching.

Unfortunately Fair City of running events has to be the BHAA series.

-On every night of the week
-Sub-standard cast looking to get onto bigger and better things
-Is there a BHAA omni(10 Mile Dublin)bus at weekends?
-Full of oul ugly ones and former heroin junkies (I've seen some of Woddle's photos).

Disclaimer: All of the above is a p*sstake and not to be taken seriously.

Damn, I hate the laps as I'd be concerned about being overtaken by the leaders at some point. Suppose it gives a bit more incentive to go a touch faster though. ;)

Think it was 4 laps last year, and I was lapped me twice :( ... But that wont happen again.

Must be 4 laps looking at the map.

Running Saturday and Monday this weekend. Cant wait.

I ran this a few years back, and Nick Corish, the amazing vet from Raheny was near the rear of the field. As you lapped him, he told you what position they were in the race... a truely great service to all!!!

He should have been on the BHAA payroll!!

    Many thanks for that Emerald.

Ugh, Laps! They really make all progress seem relative as the elites speed by.

Think it's time I started to show my face at some BHAA events... I've always been nervous about going to them because I'm not that fast and I don't know anyone there (there's only one other person from my workplace - of 1500+ people - that I know who runs these) so I've kept putting it off...

This race around RTE has always intrigued me for some reason, so all going well towards the end of the week I'm going to try to make the effort to get out for it. I hope that at about 40 mins for 5 mile I won't be the last one home!!

Don't worry about how fast you are, just go and run and enjoy it. Last year it took my 48 mins to do this run and i enjoyed it. Don't worry about others in the race run your own race and have fun , you'll progress...

I agree totally with the last comment. BHAA folk vary hugely in times & the races are always well organised & memorable.

xebec - the BHAA races are the ideal events for you to increase your competition experience and be surrounded by runners at your own (and slower) levels.

Take the last BHAA race the keepack 8mile road race. It was won in 42:32 and last finisher (203rd) clocked a time of 83:28. If you were able to maintain your 8min mile pace you would have finished with over 20% of the field behind you.

Have a look at the results for this http://results.bhaa.ie/raceResults.php?id=16 and other BHAA races if you need to be convinced to give it a go!

We have 80 years old running and 18 year olds. So its complety open to every one.
I know someone who started off coming last and is now picking up prizes almost every race for her age and team..for I will be running with a dogey Hip so you will beat me!!
Great pint after, thats the one thing keeping me going !! the pain the pain

Hi was thinking about heading along to do my first bhaa race. Just a quick few questions for someone to answer if possible:

Will there be parking available near the race start/finish?
Will there be a place to leave your bag while running.
Is the course a fast one?

    Thanks
    Mark

Yes , plenty in a two story car park just beside the start
yes , in your car or changing rooms.
Its very flat , but it has a few turns which I think slows you down. I did my best race here last year. So its not bad

This was my 1st trip to a BHAA race annd must say I was very impressed with it, The set-up and organisation of the event was fantastic.

    I do not like running laps however so this will be held against the race; I have not done any running training or races since about October, too much procrastinating, so I went to this with no watch and just wanted to finish it out at a steady pace. Given my lack of preparation and training plus a pint or two last night, silly I know, I was just outside the 35 mins I guessed I should be able to do;

No more multi-multi lap races tho

Well we missed out on the Cliff Richard tickets unfortunately, although I think I'm happier with the free socks they had when picking up the race numbers personally.

There was a good turn out of boardsies today, although there was almost more with cameras than there was actually running. If I was reading the screen properly though I think we got 5th place in the grade 1 team event today. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,087 ✭✭✭BeepBeep67

Had a look around (was looking for boardsie vests) but no clues - maybe for the next race we organise a meeting point?
For the record I ran 31:25 (which is faster than Raheny), didn't feel great though - I'll put it down to running the 2nd mile too fast (5:59) all the others were in the 6:20 - 6:24 range.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,144 Mod ✭✭✭✭robinph

Woddle turned up late so we only got our Boards AC vests after the race. ;)

Great time though, I got 30:56 which I'm really happy with.

Great improvement from Raheny - is there a sub 30 on the cards before the end of the year?

Hmm, maybe if I get really lucky. Possibly in the Adamstown 8k if we ignore the slight discrepancy with the distances, although I think today may have been a few meters short anyway from looking at the GPS tracks.

BHAA RTE 2009 Results are online now. Nice 5 mile PB for me, in the bag this morning. Brilliant organisation and massive crowd.

    Coolness personified

I don't know how the other boardsies feel about having their pics up, so I'll leave them on flickr, as for Robinph, he has shamed me more than once :D

Congrats on some very good times

I forgot, was in bed till 11 though. :pac:

Well done folks. Looks like it was nice and warm too.

Just my luck. I take two minutes off my old time to equal robinph's previous best and then he pulls another minute out of the bag :) And then he claims the race was short! Good running from everyone today.

Nice sunny day for a race. Not usually a fan of laps as I don't like getting lapped but my chief supporter was present so it was good to be able to pass by a few times and make it worth her while (I think the real appeal was seeing the Fair City set).

Cheers for organising the singlets, Woddle. Good to see a good turnout from around here. BeepBeep67, gerire, sorry we didn't get to meet you.

Set off a bit too fast again ...
    Splits : 6'10, 6'04, 6'28, 6'39*2 (didn't see a 4 mile marker)
    31'59

You are improving a lot more than I am now though and closing the gap. I'm not too sure that my extra miles of downhill skiing are doing as much for my times as I've not done anywhere near enough running miles this year.

    My splits were 6:02, 6:12, 6:22, 6:27, 5:52.

If I had the choice, I'd prefer to have been skiing too. You get to skip the uphills.

If I'd have know that it was you, robinph, that was directly in front of me approaching finish line, I may not have been so polite and eased off ;)

Was very kind of you to let me through. :D

There will be less chance of us all going incognito from now on though as we now have our BAC tops. Should be better for those of us wearing them knowing who we each need to race on the way round races though.

Nice snaps Woddle. I don't know what lens you were using but I think I need to lose a stone. Maybe it wasn't the lens.
I ran a bit quicker than I thought I would so it could be the start of a mini comeback.

well done on some great performances today guys, although its killing me reading about the huge improvments your making while I'm still sidelined. Thought this might be my comeback race but I pulled my calf last week so it'll be another few weeks before I meet up with you.

Had a great time at this race yesterday even if it was tought having to do the lap four times!!

Did anyone notice the great group of kids outside a house on Nutley Road / Seaview Terrace cheering everybody on and offering water etc?!

Was injured yesterday and couldn't run so I made myself useful and took some photographs. Just got the camera so the photos are not up to Woddle's standards but I may have caught somone.

    Well done all

Still not up to race speed myself, suffering on and off with shin splints.

Missing the craic with the BHAA races, but would not do myself justice in them right now....:(

Hopefully will catch up with you all soon :)
