Lifesaver Ring Vandalism

Don't know if this the right forum but anyway....

Found this clip on youtube that tbh sickens me. Someone has got their car stuck and they decide to use the ring in a pathetic attempt to 'rescue' it.

My only question is where can I report this type of criminality. I'd imagine the car reg. can be deciphered and the perpetrators brought to task over this. It saddens me to think that this type of silly carry on still happens.

I live in a city that pulls poor unfortunates from the rivers etc on a regular basis and I myself have seen a suicidal person talked out of their attempt by a very brave garda. If their job is made more difficult/impossible by muppets like this then I want to do all I can to put a stop to it.

If you have a youtube account logon and abuse them, They certainly didn't put it back in it's place on the video and it looks like the rope was broken as well.

I contacted Irish Water Safety and they told me I have to get on to the local authority so the question of where that beach is has become important.
It looks like Co. Clare to me for some reason, but I couldn't be sure. If I do figure it out those numbers will be useful so thanks for that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 640 ✭✭✭King Ludvig

Yea looks like lahinch co. clare to me. I went on holidays there a couple of years ago. Went to a surf school when some surf competition was on....think it was spanish point or doonbeg. It looks a lot like the place anyway.

Maybe eroo can scope out the beaches for us :D

Is this acceptable practice? To post up on a public forum the apparent results of a vehicle check from a Garda Computer (PULSE) albeit no registered keeper details are showing.

If this is to be followed through surely it should be done out of the public eye & through normal procedures?

Just an observation, but it's the results of a vehicle check from a very much publicaly accessible website. Fcuk it, they were stupid enough to put themselves on the net actin the maggot, so their the ones who put there details out there for all to see.

Trojan911, this info is from cartell.ie, you put in the car registration and these details are returned.

Sure, just as long as nobody gets into strife over it. If it's a public website then yes, shame the hell out of them. Inconsiderate *ahem* barstewards.

.......and it looks like the rope was broken as well.

Definitely broken as you can hear it snap so it's double jeopardy, a lifesafer that looks functional but now has a serious weakness.

Thanks everyone for the car regs. I will contact the Water Safety Development Officer in Galway County Council tomorrow with the details of the cars involved and a copy of the video if necessary.

I don't know the actual illegality (if any) of what happened in the clip but I'll see what can be done.

One would hope they would at least have to pay for a replacement or repair to the life buoy as well as a bit of cleaning up the beach or something!

Section 2 of the Criminal Damage Act 1991. Nice hefty fine if prosecution is brought.

I rang the Water Safety Development Officer in Galway CoCo and his advice was to contact the Gardai. Anyway, I will make a complaint now.

You will need sombody in the CoCo to act as injured party. They will make the complaint as it is their property. They will have to make a statement to gardai and act as a witness for the state when it goes to court.

I had that idea in the back of my head when I rang him but he didn't indicate that he would be moving on this.

The official line was I should contact the Gardai which disappointed me somewhat. Especially as the only time he remembered someone being prosecuted for this was over two years ago as the people who damage the buoys are almost never seen committing the act.

Ya normally they are never seen......but then again they normally arent fecking stupid enough to 1 - be caught on mobile phone camera and 2 - the video posted on youtube!!!!

Em join Bebo or Facebook ?

Personally, that video is a shock to me, been a member of midnightclub and too think theres members on that forum doing silly things like that.

I for one would never do anything like that, even get my car in a position like that.

and deadwood, please remember there are actully respectable people that drive them type of cars, me been one of them. I prefer if you did not class me as a boy racer. In fact I have not one point on my license and I don't speed, I got to Mondello if I want to race.

Again hope they get what they deserve for that stupid stunt.

    I hear ya msg11.

They're the type of people and antics that give decent enthusiasts like you a bad name, so I think boy racer is one of the more printable names I could apply to them on a forum.

The term applies to the person rather than the car.

I encounter enough drivers to know that a japanese car with the list of spare parts written on the door doesn't make you a bad person!

Thanks! Just these fools give everyone a name, I know you pain, its commonly referred to in the community as the shopping list on the door.

Personally I like a nice car from the factory, the way its ment to be, I have been protesting for years about the "induction kit", when the hole time, the stock airbox is better :pac:.

    It wouldn't e the 1st time boards activly got some changes made;

Iirc Through the 'motors forum': There was new signs, ad's etc put up around the city centre that were in terrible positions for safety of drivers and pedestrians etc and it was brought up at a city council meeting within 24hrs of being posted on here

I went to Mill St. Garda Station this morning with the car details and a disk of the video downloaded from Youtube. There was a reluctance to take it and the garda recommended that I go to either Gort or the local station in Kinvara (not sure where this is).

Much like my dealings with the Water Safety Development Officer in Galway CoCo, I am left a little dissappointed. What if I was in Dublin/Cork. Would I still be asked to give it to the relevant local station. I thought I could report at any station.

I will probably post it now as I really don't see myself driving out to a station that will most likely not even be manned on a bank holiday weekend.

BTW, here is the video for for anyone that hasn't seen it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,290 ✭✭✭dresden8

I don't know which depresses me worse, the retards in the video who don't care that they might kill someone or the retards in officialdom who don't care that the other retards might kill someone.

Sums up Ireland these days I'm afraid.

Sorry to hear that, after all your efforts & good intentions but it doesn't surprise me in the least the response you got.

In answer to your question yes, this happens in Cork as well. I've had it tried on me twice when I reported idiot drivers.
