Today it has been finally announced that they are to offload the e voting machines in Ireland by a yet undetermined method.

What id like to establish among members here is to wheather you feel that the concept of e voting is a good or bad idea in general, regardless of the mistakes that were made with them in Ireland. Its obvious that there is a lack of transparency and that they are not suitable for use here, but that perhaps is alot to do with the particular machine or system that was purchased for use.

    Im adding a poll.

The purpose of the poll is to determine if you agree with the concept of e voting, you may not approve of the debacle of the e voting machines and the maagment of their implemintation that has being well documented now here in Ireland, but if you think that if it were properly managed and designed to suit or constitution and have relivent transparency would you like to see them used?

Mods: Ive posted this here rather than the political forum to get the opinions of people that would be of a more broad representation of the population rather than people with a particular interest in politics

Personally, im undecided. I can see both positives and negatives in them.

Would you agree with the concept of e voting machines? 24 votes

Yes, i agree with the concept of e voting machines if implimented correctly

Fair Point, but how will they convince us future machines would be perfectly above board?

Why can't I just email my vote in?
Strikes me that the most dedicated spammer should decide the fate of the nation.

I loved the news piece with the condescending pr*ck Bertie Ahern saying how we needed to throw away the pencil an paper, when in Reality the system was about as safe as sending your Credit Card details to Mr. Obongo from Lagos.

It was a cleverly designed stunt by the government to decive the Irish taxpayer and the nice cottage industry of storing the machine in the premises of Fianna Fail party hacks with 20 year contracts drawn up, I imagine these will now sue for breach of contract? If these machines had been used fully FF could manipulate the Vote to keep themselves in power, still it was nice the way Mary "worked like blacks" O'Rourke got dumped in the 2002 General Election partly thanks to the Eircom biddies and CWU who brought her down for throwing the company to the vultures and ensuing mess that haunts us to this day.

Give them free to a country without such paranoia and who can run them properly? Surely we're not the only country to have thought of e-voting, perhaps the only one not to have successfully implemented it..

    In other words, yes. :D

I also hear 9/11 was an inside job.

To be serious for a second, e-voting would be as, if not more, secure as regular voting, if implemented correctly.
And not having to print stupid amounts of paper as well as far quicker and accurate counts of votes would be well worth the switch.
