71 Pilots have been comissioned - i have no clue where to find info on them all but Mr.E normelly posts a good few.

Anyway 5 new sci-fi shows - i had heard about V remake last year but i like the sound of ABC's "Flash Forward"

I love these pilot announcements, but leaked pilots are still a few months away (last year it was mid-June).

I love the idea of Flash Forward. The problem I see is that you have lots of individuals seeing their future, and it will be a challenge writing a consistent story - with memorable characters - around it. Everything will have a foundation in those 2m17s, so even if this makes it to season 2 or 3, it'll still be all about that one point in time. It'll be a challenge to keep it interesting (and fresh). Good cast though... I want to see this pilot more than any other.

The other one I'm interested in is V - it was always going to be worth a watch, particularly for fans of the original mini-series and final battle (the tv series was awful though). With production values of the noughties, it could be a good 'un.

Agree!....really looking forward to the V remake. I'd love to see a more dark, edgy interpretation. I really hope it isin't cheesy though, i also hope it gets a decent budget as those scenes in the original with the ships landing at the powerplant and a few hundread real live extras made for a great set piece!

    Lets hope for the best...

Here's a source of pilot listings, although it seems to come to more than 71. Also upfront dates on the page.

I wish networks would at least release un-optioned pilots online, or preferably in some sort of antology DVD set. I know some find theie way out in some form, but most don't.

I'm sure there's a bunch of stuff no one's ever seen that's great, as well as another chunk of shows that turned out so terrible they're comedy gold.

If only networks where fluid. If only.

i know what you mean syferus - ive been looking atleast once a month for over 1/2 a year trying to get my hands on last novembers pilot of

    "Boldly going nowhere"
    http://www.thefutoncritic.com/rant.aspx?id=20080709
the pilot has been remade and a 2nd one is in the works - do fox do this with every single ****ing show btw?

EDIT: we get a preview of ABC's Flash forward next week during lost's 100th episode

Excellent to hear that - I was thinking that with BSG, SGA gone and T:SCC/Dollhouse on the chopping block, sci-fi fans would have nothing to watch next year so it's good to see some new sci-fi shows been made...

Anthony Kiedis of the Chili Peppers is shooting a pilot based on his relationship with his father, called "Spider and Son"

    http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20274341,00.html?xid=rss-topheadlines

Can't imagine it would be any good, but Kiedis did turn in an Oscar worthy performance in Point Break, so you'd never know :pac:

    :)

And 1 more ive had my eye on - i didnt know it had gone to pilot! im chuffed
    Check out "Virtuality"

And to really top it of - Ronald D Moore !

    http://scifiwire.com/2009/04/sci-fi-tv-pilots-part-two.php

Virtuality When the Earth's first starship, the Phaeton, heads off on a journey to explore a distant solar system, the people on board have to do something. Luckily they've got virtuality, which means the ability to embrace the limitless possibilities of a virtual-reality world. From creators Michael Taylor and Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, pictured). Peter Berg directed the two-hour pilot. The cast includes New Amsterdam's Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, James D'Arcy, Jimmi Simpson, Joy Bryant, Kerry Bishe, Nelson Lee, Omar Metwally, Richie Coster and Sienna Guillory

    But *sigh*

Does Virtuality have a shot at reality?

No. We knew the stars were obviously not in alignment when Fox ordered the two-hour pilot cut down to one hour because it was considered too dense.

    i ****ing hate fox

I've never been big on hating networks for cancelling shows. They are a business and the fact is networks more than cable stations need high rated shows, not just ones with a cult fan base and/or critical heat.

For every Firefly there's a seven season Buffy, for every Arrested Delvelopment there's a Malcom in the Middle. Every show has a fan base.

Update - Virturality will be released - the 2 hour pilot - wahoo! on fox - July 4th

    less than a month! http://scifiwire.com/2009/05/report-virtuality-pilot-g.php

Sci-Fi on Fox? We all know how that will end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,905 ✭✭✭User45701

    yup :(

ive been waiting on a scifi comedy called "boldly going nowhere" it was mentioned last summer and still no sign of a pilot being leaked but i think fox got them to make a 2nd pilot or something - they really love doing that dont they - firefly, dollhouse, virturality, boldly going nowhere are the ones that spring to mind - it could just be me but do fox almost always shoot down the first pilot?

Reminds me of RTE turning down Fr.Ted

Flicking through the list there are some that you just know will be picked up (Kelsey Grammar comedy on ABC, David E Kelley dram on NBC)

For Chuck fans its interesting to see Tony Hale doing a pilot too. Hopefully its a back up plan

Isn't that the one from the "Always sunny in Philadelphia" guys? It could be good, but I can't see how their way of doing things would fly at FOX of all places...

Not to pull this too OT, but RTE didn't turn it down.... Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews went to Channel 4 first.

Couple of pilots look good for next year - if for nothing else the cast involved will have me keeping an eye out for Cougar Town (starring Leah Remini, Courtney Cox, Matthew Lillard), The Law (starring Donald Faison), The Middle (starring Neil Flynn), No Heroics, The Fish Tank (starring Drake Bell), Sons Of Tuscon (starring Tyler Labine), Happy Town (starring Amy Acker, Dean Winters, Robert Wisdom, Lauren German), Limelight (starring Noah Grey Cabey, Brooklyn Sudano), Back (starring John C. McGinley, Skeet Ulrich, DB Woodside), Game Of Thrones, and The Wonderful Maladys (starring Sarah Michelle Gellar).
As of yet no one I know starring in No Heroics or Game Of Thrones - I just think there's a lot of potential with both of them. About when do pilots get leaked online?

    Updates from TV Guide....
With ABC, CBS, Fox and the CW holding their upfront presentations during the week of May 18 — and NBC set to reveal the rest of its own 2009-10 plan on May 19 — the pilots for a slew of prospective series are getting their final looks.

Among the surprising let-downs? NBC took a pass on David E. Kelley's Legally Mad — and owes Warner Bros. TV a seven-figure penalty payment for doing so. It also turned down Dick Wolf's Lost & Found, a cop drama starring Katee Sackhoff.

Though there has been talk in the trades that NBC might avoid the Legally Mad penalty by instead granting Warner Bros.' Chuck a pick-up, the action-comedy's creator, Josh Schwartz, had nothing to share with TVGuide.com as of Tuesday morning.

ABC by all insider accounts won't be tuning into The Bridget Show, starring Gilmore gal Lauren Graham as a talk-show host. Similarly, the future for No Heroics (an intentionally funny version of Heroes) looks less than super, while Limelight (a modern-day Fame) failed to sing.

For those who found CW's plan for a 1980s Gossip Girl flashback to be totally tubular, this may disappoint: The prequel pilot, starring Brittany Snow as young Lily, is looking to be less OMG than GMWS (Gag Me with a Spoon).

    What is screening well?

ABC may find itself with two towns to visit — Cougar Town (starring Courteney Cox) and Happy Town (a murder mystery). Also in the running are The Unknown (a Jerry Bruckheimer-produced look at amateur crime fighters) and the V remake (which, despite initially eliciting mixed reviews, is gaining buzz). Exec-producer Shonda Rhimes' Inside the Box, of course, is likely to merit strong consideration.

CBS has numerous new dramas on hand, including the NCIS spin-off (a lock for the fall), U.S. Attorney and The Good Wife (starring Julianna Margulies as a lawyer, again). CBS chief Les Moonves is reportedly hot to launch a medical series, and of his three options, Three Rivers (featuring Alex O'Loughlin) is shaping up to be a front-runner, employing a 24-style split-screen technique to unspool its multiple-POV stories about organ transplants.

On the comedy side, Accidentally on Purpose (in which Jenna Elfman gets Knocked Up by a slacker) and Happiness Isn't Everything (starring Jason Biggs) have people laughing, with the latter looking good for a midseason premiere.

Fox is said to be setting its sights on Human Target (in which Mark Valley safeguards people in danger), Past Life (a reincarnation-tinged mystery serial) and Brothers (featuring former NFL star Michael Strahan as... a former NFL star).

With the CW's Gossip Girl offshoot looking like a long shot and Body Politic not exactly rounding up critical votes, the netlet is poised to add to its lineup both the new Melrose Place and Vampire Diaries (adapted from a series of young adult novels). Oh, and as an added bonus? There may now be room for Privileged to snare that Season 2 renewal.

Glad to hear it's looking good for both "Cougar Town" and "Happy Town" two of my early favourites. Disappointed that it's looking like "Limelight" won't get a decent chance, but as I discovered Fox's "Glee" today, which looks like it'll be given the green light, I'm happy enough.

I'm also disappointed that Limelight wasn't picked up, always felt a Fame reboot would be good...modernised etc.

In his first foray into TV series, Thomas Jane has been tapped as the lead in HBO's hourlong pilot "Hung." The dark comedy pilot, directed by Oscar winner Alexander Payne, centers on Ray (Jane), a well-endowed struggling middle-age high school basketball coach who figures out a way to use his best asset. "Hung" has been a big priority for HBO's new entertainment president Sue Naegle, who made the spec script by "The Riches" creator Dmitry Lipkin and Colette Burson her first major purchase and later her first pilot pickup.

Cannot wait for this, I'm a massive Thomas Jane fan and have evne had the pleasure of meeting the man. Spent a night drinking with him and Josh Lucas before retiring to Mr. Jane's hotel room to sleep it off on the floor.

I'm really really looking forward to Bored to Death from HBO. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jason Schwartzman plays a struggling thirtysomething writer with a drinking problem in Brooklyn who, following a painful breakup with his girlfriend, decides to emulate his heroes from the novels of Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett. He takes out an ad pretending to be a private detective and starts taking cases.
Someone on IMDB is claiming to have seen the pilot and says it has a Wes Andersdon vibe to it but that just sounds too good to be true, it'll be hard to keep my expectations in check for this one.

I think the CW has canned the Gossip Girl spin off Valley Girls (about young Lily)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,588 ✭✭✭JP Liz

In Dark Blue, Dylan McDermott stars as Carter Shaw, the head of a crack undercover team of police officers who are so covert, many of their own colleagues don’t even know they are involved. Shaw is a deeply wounded character, having lost his wife and much of his former life as he struggles to bring down bad guys through complex undercover assignments. His team includes a recently married cop (Hardwick) who struggles with personal relationships he has developed while undercover; a shoot-from-the-hip officer (Marshall-Green) whose activities make fellow team members wonder if he has gone over to the bad side; and a green patrol cop brought in because of her excellent skill in lying and a shady past (Aycox).

DARK BLUE comes to TNT from Warner Horizon Television, with prolific producer Jerry Bruckheimer (the CSI series, Without a Trace), Jonathan Littman (the CSI series, Cold Case), Danny Cannon (the CSI series, Eleventh Hour) and Doug Jung (Big Love) serving as executive producers. KristieAnne Reed (Eleventh Hour) is co-executive producer. Cannon directed the pilot episode. The series co-stars Logan Marshall-Green (The O.C.), Omari Hardwick (TNT’s Saved) and Nicki Aycox (Supernatural).

    New to TNT

At first i thought it was a series based on the Ron Shelton directed movie Dark Blue but i dont think it is
