Filed down gripper (Captains of Crush/Heavy grips) to make it harder to close

I filed down the ends of my heavy grip 200 to make it harder to close, it also increases the ROM. I got the idea from the heavy grips site where a guy said
A month later I bought the #3 and #4 and by this time was closing my filed #2 with either hand.
I guessed he meant what I did. A search on google showed a few more who had filed there ones.

The diameter was 19.2mm and each is now 17.8mm so there is 1.4mm gone from each side, so 2.8mm more to close. This sounds small but anybody who uses them will know it is a lot ;). They were sanded at angles so they still touch at the very bottom, it also means the handles are still smooth, rather than a big chunk being cut out at the bottom.

I am about 3mm off closing the 250 so I reckon this is now about a 220. I can close it for reps still, but I think the spring is a lot weaker than when I started out due to so much use.

I got mine on the heavy grips site. Irish lifting sell the captains of crush which are better quality. http://www.irish-lifting.com/product_info_equipment.php?cPath=1_10&products_id=255
Mickk (a member here who owns irish lifting) said he was going to start selling cheaper versions but they are not on the site yet, but he might have them in stock.

It probably voids the warranty but works very well. It is also good psychologically when you see you are so only 1mm away from closing them you can give it a little more power to try and get it. So you could progress each week or month by sanding off a tiny bit more until you can barely close them again, or get up to say 10 reps and then sand again.

Also when holding closed you are isometrically training beyond the normal closing point of unsanded ones, which might help with them.

I also have a 300 which is very hard to do. I mentioned before that I made extension tubes which slip on over the normal tubes, this extends the handles so you can place your hand lower down to make them easier to do. This way a single hard gripper can take the place of a whole range, though I still prefer the proper ones.

Seen some youtube vids of the CoC grippers filed down like that.

Going to try and find a filer to use on mine.

Working on the CoC 1.5 at the mo.
