After watching about 2 mins of that god awful comedy that was on rte about Irish drinking, it got me thinking...

Us Irish defo like to drink, for alot of us without kids(not all I know), its the focus of our week,

What percentage of your wage do you spend, some people spend 100s, some just 40 or 50, but how much do you spend compared to what you take in every week?

I spend about 1/4 of my wage,

5-7%. My percentage has went up a lot recently, not because i'm drinking more, i'm just earning less.

    way too much :(

But alcohol is WAY to expensive in this country, every other country ive been to has been much cheaper than ireland withthe exception of finland, but then again shots were dirt cheap over there. fookin hate being ripped off//

A lot less since I started getting beer down the north. If I really wanted, I could easily go out 2 nites a week and spend a ton a nite. If I did, I wouldn't have any money left to eat.....

It's hardly rocket science why it's so expensive when we shovel so much of it into us every year.....

ye i see what you mean but the scots for example i would say drink near enough to as much as us.. maybe not as much and its SOO much cheaper over there.. like more than half the price for a pint.. and dont tell me the cost of living is half as cheap over there.

Ye your right its not rocket science, we are being ripped off.

if that doesnt clarify for you stepbar what im trying to say.. well then maybe an example:

i was in aberdeen there last week, pint of guinness was 2.10. the cheapest price for a pint of genius in dublin city centre id say is around 4.20 or 4.30.. and its brewed 2 feckin minutes down the road, its rediculous.. you go to spain, and order the local brew.. its dirt cheap compared to other beers, not 10 cent cheaper....

    About 30 - 35% normally.
This week it will be more because I'll be in a pub tomorrow night.
I go to the pub about once a month these days. It used to be 5 nights a week, but work has dried up, so I can't afford it any more.

Cheers to the boardsie who threw a bit of work my way tonight.
See sig for details and boardsie discount (terms and conditions apply).

Ah now. I thought it was a much better attempt than other recent Irish comedies. I actually laughed at some of it for a start.

Id say us scots drink just as much as u lot over here. Thing is though, since iv been living in dublin iv had ALOT more money to spend. Not all on drink mind, cost of living may be more over here but wages are generally better. Love heading back for visits though as its so fuping cheap!

Have to agree with admiral about working in the trade, people are all heading home at 2/3am and your night is just starting....

2.10 for a guinness? Was it happy hour? Thats seriously cheap, even for scotland!

    About 30% by the way.

Feck all, < 3%. Usually buy a crate of beer (24 bottles) @ €12 every week or 2. Go out a few nights as well, probably costs < €30 on a night out to get absolutely wasted here, including food and transport :)

Id say us scots drink just as much as u lot over here.
That sounds like a challenge! The ultimate showdown. The Scots verses the Irish in a drinking competition.

Something similar to posters on the rest of the thread, id say 15-30%, varies from week to week, payday to payday etc. but defiantly still too much. Knocked it on the head for a few weeks for lent, noticed how much extra cash I had (not to save, are ye mad?) but to spend on other stuff.

Thinking back at one stage it probably would have been closer to 50-60+%:(

yet that gobshiote of a minister for justice Dermot Aherne thinks drink is far too cheap in ireland and is near on his way to getting drink promotions such as bavaria 6 pack for e7.99 banned and all drink promotions for that matter.he plans to have it all around 14e for every six pack of beer!no more cases of miller for e19.99 or anything like that either.

    god i hate our government!

agreed.. i will miss my 12 pack of prazsky for 13 quid. :(

Ye it was 2.10 pound so 2.30/40 for a pint of the good shtuff over there.. beggars belief how they can get away with ripping us off with guinness over here. They cant throw the owl well it cost more to brew it here. A quick chat with the barman told me it was imported... **** tbh...

just back from spain and was drinking pints at €1.50

28Pack of 33cl cans of beer was €11.50
Found myself eating out more because the beer was cheaper.

Percentages don't seem that important ,when we're being ripped off over here, for everything.

Ah, but this was Ireland, the Celtic Tiger generation... "Fcuking I've loads of money, Lorcan" . We were different of course

It's no great surprise the price of beer is what it is now (as in higher than the rest of Europe) when we willing handed over thousand upon thousand of eur from our wages to publicans who just kept putting up the prices over the years. Why wouldn't they with full pubs every night. And what's even worse was that we kept going back!!!

Throw in Gov Duty and the Nations attidute towards alcohol in the first place and well.....

Thankfully those days are coming to an end. It was a pleasure to have change out of a tenner for 3 pints in London at the weekend. In some places here you'd be lucky to have change out of twenty.
