My brother used to do business with the guy who won the lotto at the weekend, They've had a working relationship for years. Nice guy by all accounts, would go out of his way to help you. Almost so nice that people would take advantage of him.

He was let go after years working in the same garage on Friday & on his way home picked up a lotto ticket.

    He has five kids.

His wife left him & the kids seven weeks ago for another man.

    Absolutely delighted for him.

(still pissed it wasn't me though).

    So......he's single? :pac:

    Delighted!

It's always good to hear a story like that. Would pay about €14million just to see the look on the wife's face when she heard that he won.

Justice in the world for once!

Well, looking at the luck the guy had the last few weeks it would not surprise me if he has lost the ticket by now....

Seems like the karma worked for him.

Is he still married, So half of it is hers?

That's really freaky I know another case were a woman left the husband and 6 kids for another man and he won 250k sterling on the uk lotto.... The only thing now is the bitch could claim for half! Diy-divorse-asap!!

Must have been unreal to win after being let go. All the best to him. 14 million and single the man can do anything he wants.

Well that leaves him with 7million, i'd still be happy enough with that.

No I think as she left the kids he'll prob take care of them that way he wont have to pay her maintenance, if she was taking the kids he'd have to pay maintenance and she'd probably cream a lot of it for her and her new man

If you had a 'similar' situation, do you just need to show that adultery took place, if one partner walked out, or is it enough to show that the ticket was purchased without any participation from the other person?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,791 ✭✭✭JJJJNR

She left him and the kids seven weeks ago, theres no way she should be entitled to anything.. whore I bet she comes back crawling.

What a great bit of luck for the guy!! delighted for them..

If this story is true it's great. Wish the guy all the best. Thank god it wasn't some rich accountant. I really hope the wife gets nothing if true. I would refuse to divorce her or drag it thro' the courts or give her a paltry insulting amount.

Think the fact that she cheated may affect this, but family law is messy business.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,791 ✭✭✭JJJJNR

I think with the money he could get himself a good lawyer and drag it out with your one for 7 - 8 years and spend it all by the time it hits the courts... leave himself with a 100k for the court case..

I wouldnt mind being in the winners shoes and going to meet the bitch and her new man in my sparkling new Aston martain people carrier.. kids in tow.

sickner for her and totally deserved. Would be sweet if she never heard about it..

OMG stop raggin on the wife. No one knows the circumstances in which she left and already she is being labelled a whore.

Best of luck to him. He should give two million to each of his 5 kids in a trust fund and leave his wife to fight over the other 4

I know a woman who's husband left her, she won several grand on the Lotto shortly after...

He could give the money to the kids, maybe?
    Or just hire an assassin.

Here's the story of a durty brazzer
Who ran out on her husband and her lovely kids.
She left the family to get fúcked, like their mother,
    They'd really hit the skids.

So here's the story, of a man named Brady,
Who was now busy with three boys of his own,
They were four men, living all together,
But they were on the dole.

Till the one day when the fellow won the lotto
And knew it was much more than a hunch,
That his missus would come back groveling to the family.
That's the way they all became the Minted Bunch.
    The Minted Bunch.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,813 ✭✭✭themadchef

Poor guy. Imagine how pissed you'd be....€14 million and she still gets half.

Still i'd rather be pissed about that than her taking half of my dole if i was him.

This guy is none too clever. His maintenance payments are going to sky rocket. Should've kept it quiet till the divorce was done.

Why is he paying maintenance when he has the kids?

Even if he didn't why should it increase the payments. Are hi children more expensive to look after because he won the lotto?

wonder did she cook her lovers dinner at the winners house.

If she can prove when he won the lotto, she'd still be entitled to half.

So how could you stop having to pay your wife her share of the divorce money (legally that is!)? Could you do something like give it to a trusted friend, divorce and then have the friend give the money back to you, or something?

theres a song that springs to mind, whos sorry now.... im thrilled for him and the kids, regardless of the win she should be ashamed of herself abandoning her kids

fair play to the guy..... jammy git.... I spent my weekend buying €4 quickpicks between here (Dublin) and Cork ..... managed to win about €13 (including scratch card prizes - which I didnt win after scratching) - not gonna mention how much I spent on tickets !!!

hopefully he'll get some good legal advice and will retain most if not all of the money

You'd get ass-raped by revenue for doing something like that.

if the story changes my opinion will change but if it was the wife who won and the the guy who had left her in the lurch with 5 kids guaranteed you would not be on here defending him

I'd rather give half of it to the government than to a woman who left me for another man.

Ooh, he could start a charity for recently divorced fathers and give it all his money. Then, when the divorce is final, he can have the charity give him all the money. Bound to save a few quid with that idea.

because they are still legally married my understanding is that she gets half. kinda sucks really. if someone leaves and you get lucky a few weeks later legally they can just say they want their fair share and you have to give it over even if they then subsequently divorce

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,564 ✭✭✭✭whiskeyman

Husband: 'Hey!! Pack your bags!! I've just won the lotto!!!'

Wife: 'Oh that's fantastic!!! Should I pack for summer weather, mountain walks or ski gear?'

Husband: 'Who cares, just pack and get lost!'

i imagine its not as black and white as that

for example if she left 7 weeks ago for another guy it shouldnt be too hard to prove adultery which i assume would reduce the amount she gets first of all

then the fact that she left without the kids would probably go against her on settlement aswell.

I doubt I would have to defend him as he wouldn't be under attack from the majority of people in the thread calling him one of the most degrading things you can say to him based on his gender.

I think the moral to take from this is that if you're wife leaves you then take a stab at the lotto, not a stab at your wife.

Maybe the chap is still in love with his wife, even without the lotto win they may have sorted out their difficulties.

The win will probably make that harder now, I wouldn't trade the love of someone I was absolutely & truely in love with for €14m - not for any money tbh.
