My dr. just prescribed this for me & have been reading up on it and a bit worried that it will even work. If anyone has been on this then I would appreciate their opinion.

Also, before anyone starts off, I know exercise and weight loss are key so I won't appreciate any remarks that aren't helpful.

    Thanks.

Well, a quick google tells me that you won't lose a huge amount tbh.

What's your weight/height at the minute?

Like you say, exercise & diet are key. Regardless of the drug prescribed, unless you work on changing eating habits then it's only a quick fix.

167cm and 14 stone. The dr. was hoping this would help with some other eating issues, so we'll see.

I know someone who was on this and it wasn't pleasant. They thought that as it inhibited the amount of fat they absorb they could eat loads of fatty foods... they used to leave the toilet at work in an awful state... bright orange residue covering the bowl.

It didn't work for them they ended up heavier as they were cheating.

yeah it has nasty effects on the bowels if you dont have a low fat diet.... but you'd also be better cutting out caffeine, salt, alcohol and sugary foods at the same time....
best of luck! it hard i know, i recently lost 5stone... still a bit to go.

    .

That’s basically because you spray out the fat’s you have eaten , you also have to be careful it is very easy to fart it out , it’s recently been approved in the uk for over the counter use (providing you have a bmi of 28)

Not quite - alli has been approved Europe-wide (available in Ireland now too). alli is a lower strength of orlistat, not the same as Xenical. It will ONLY work in combination with a low-fat diet and the only claim is that for a week where you lose 2lb with diet and exercise, alli will help you to lose 1lb extra.

Was put on this because I wasn't loosing weight despite my best efforts, went off it after a month, was clung to the loo, awful noises from my stomach, and I didn't have a diet high in fat to begin with. I lost 2kg. A friend was on it too, and she avoided fat but ended up eating more carbs to compensate, had similar side effects. She stayed on it 6 months, lost 6kg, her weight bounced up and down during those 6 months though.

I don't know what your food issues are, but I'd say try it, maybe keep a food diary with it to work out what causes side effects to avoid them, any push in the right direction can be the start of something great. :) Then if you need exercise/diet help we're here to give a hand. Good luck! :)
