They were issued to commerate the 10 year anniversary of the euro, and are meant to be collectable so if you get one again hold onto it =p

That really only works with fishsticks since there's no such thing as 'dadsticks'.

No such thing as fish dicks either. Just put it here because of 1st reply this thread. http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055542592 . OK so that thread wasn't interesting and my contibution here may not work but I'd sooner write something original than just spout lines from South Park.

It will probably be worth ~€1.61 in current purchasing power.

Explain? I would imagine you would get a lot more with 2 euro now than say maybe a few months ago when inflation was an all time high?

Much of the technical "deflation" numbers from price indices are attributable to reductions in interest rates; that's why you'll observe significant discrepancy between the CSO Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP). The largest contribution to negative HICP figures are fuel prices which have stabilised relative to the free-fall in commodity prices over the latter half of '08. Take the average Eurozone y-on-y inflation rate since introduction as a broad approximation to what you money will be worth (its purchasing power) in the long-run.

Governments are determined to get the banking system back to a state whereby monetary inflation will return (the cost of expanding the money supply). Pump enough money into an economy and when the velocity of that money (the average number of times it is used in a transaction) returns to a point of > 0 then you'll see inflation. The approximation I gave was based on an average inflation rate at 2.21%. Err on the side of an up-swing ;).

Here's what annual (Irish) HICP looks like:
COICOP Group|Monthly Change (%)|Annual Change (%)|Group Contribution to Annual Change
    01 Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages|- 0.5|- 0.6|- 0.08
    02 Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco|0|+ 5.9 |+ 0.40
    03 Clothing and Footwear|+ 4.6|- 8.7|- 0.47
    04 Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels|- 0.7|- 3.9|- 0.41
    05 Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance|+ 0.3|- 2.0|- 0.09
    06 Health|- 0.1|+ 4.6|+ 0.17
    07 Transport| + 0.5|- 7.4| - 1.06
    08 Communications|0|+ 0.9|+ 0.03
    09 Recreation and Culture| - 0.3|- 0.2| - 0.03
    10 Education|0|+ 5.4 |+ 0.13
    11 Restaurants and Hotels|- 0.3|+ 1.5| + 0.25
    12 Miscellaneous Goods and Services|+ 0.4|+ 6.3| + 0.43
