....and here people can post up what things they think will defo come up or anything that is not likely to come up in the Leaving Cert.

Like my irish teacher said that every year there was a meeting of teachers or something and this guy would predict whats comin up and he would be right most of the time but she said that this meeting isn't on this year!

    say what subject first!

Do ye think the recession will come up in some form on the HL irish paper? Fingers crossed!

Ive heard for biology that reproduction is tipped to come up, and in chemistry, a titration involving potassium permanganate..(the purple stuff, its been so long i cant remember. damn )...well the one with autocatalysis anyways.

hmm, ya, that was on the deb mock. What was on the examcraft? how many titrations are there anyway? :P

i actually just did the tick titration today. It was iron tablet. Very managable really if you can just get your hand around the calculations. They are the same each time. Systematic approach but not easy. Probably the most difficult on the course.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 884 ✭✭✭ya-ba-da-ba-doo

my accounting predictions are as follows......

    Q1 manufacturing

Q2,3,4 depreciation farm and tabular accounts

    Q5 ratios

Q6,7 service firm and incomplete records

    Q8 job costing

    Q9 cash budgeting

    Economics:
    Oligopoly/Imperfect Competition
    Elasticity
World Trade (Either protectionism or exchage rates IMO)
Government Fiscal Policy (How to stimulate Economy)
Banking (Ability to create credit/Evaluation of recapitalisation)

I think all of the above are pretty likely. Worth taking a look at at least.

    Maths:
    Prove Factor Theorem
    Diff Sine/Cosine from First Principles.

    Physics:
    Variation of Fundamental Freq. experiments.
    Acceleration proportional to force experiment.
    Specific Heat Capacity.
    Resistivity/Current .v. P.D.
    X-rays

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,440 ✭✭✭✭Piste

    Chemistry
I'm thinking Iron Tablet. The experiment itself is easy enough to answer questions on, the maths can just be a bit...bitty and it's very easy to slip up (for example not realise there are 5 tablets and dividing by 5 etc.)

    Biology
Some flicking through exam papers revealed that Respiration and Photosynthesis come up every year, usually as a full question each. The questions alternate as follows: One year Respiration will come up in section A or B and photosynthesis will come up in Section C, the following year the opposite will be the case. This year Photosynthesis should be in Section A or B (I'm thinking B as the experiment came up in the examcraft mock) and Respiration should be a C part.

(someone tell me if I have this the wrong way round!)

    Irish
The rumours flying round are that Gealt?, Jack and Bimse Buan are hotly tipped to come up as the pass poems. For prose it seems likely that An Bhean Óg and Cearrbhac Mac Cába will be up. For honours poetry people are saying Dá mb'fhéidir arís... and An Mhathair will be up.

    English
Like most people on here are saying, Longley, Bishop and Walcott are highly probable.

(this is all just speculation, don't rely on any tips on this thread alone!)

The Balinteer English teacher (Carol McGuire) reckons Keats, Longely Bishop and Walcott. I'd say if you study two or three you're grand.

Yeah she's been saying the same thing to us and it does seem to make sense given that it's Walcotts first time up as far as I know.

Ha, well poems have come up two years in a row before, so don't worry ;)

    Chemistry:
Our teacher swears by the bleach titration, it is the only one which has not come up.. it has a few little tricks too..like you have to multipy the no. of moles by the RMM of NaClO which is 75.5 but the only give you ClO on the sheet so loads of people will only multiply by the RMM of that and theres other little bits too.

I'm sure I have more tips written down...I'll post them up if i find them..

pass irish , definately lig sin, probably bean og and fiche blian ag fas, poetry part geallt, jack, faoiseamh gheo and mabye bimse buan

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 484 ✭✭brennaldo

English: im studying bishop(great detail) , keats(decent enough) and longley(decent enough aswell)

Irish: i do ord level but i noticed that the poem "faoiseamh a gheobhadsa" has come up every year since 03, for poetry im also doing jack, gealt, bimse buan agus nil aon ni
And for the pros, im just doing- Clare sa Speir, Cearrbach mac caba, agus Coileach Ghleann Padrig.

Geography: For honours level i noticed that for physical, Landform development(rocks, isostacy, plate tectonics, ect) and human interaction(mass movement, river processes, ect) always tend to come up as a B and C in a question, now dont take my definate word, its just something ive noticed.
For Regional, im just going over everything, making sure my maps of Ireland, the mezzigiorno and India are great
For Economics im definatly making sure i know an MNC qus backwards and same for the EU policies in Ireland, il also go back over everything else
And for Culture and Identity im going to know an essay on language/religion as a cultural indicator, Religious conflict and impact of colonialism and migration.

Physics: im not great at physics but all i can say is ignore completely the expeiments from 08 because there not coming up again (so says my teacher) and jus make sure ya have a decent enough knowledge of the course, know which sections your stronger at and hope they come up in section B.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 744 ✭✭✭leesmom

your making a mistake not doing lig sin i gcathu, its on every mock paper and clare sa speir came up last year and in 2006

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 484 ✭✭brennaldo

well clare sa speir appears all the time, and we only started lig sin o gCathu today so im not sure if its good or not, i mite still study it though.

I only have Bishop done in detail. Keats Walcott and Longley are new to me this year. Would they not put on one poet from last year again do ye not think?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 456 ✭✭aine-maire

I really think that it's impossible to predict what's coming on.
Have at least 2 to be safe!

I'm doing Bishop, Keats, Walcott and maybe Longley if I have time ^^

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 263 ✭✭jkbrackens11

Bishop seems to be a cert nearly as there is always a female poet and Rich was up last year so that would be my guess.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 287 ✭✭Des23

By the looks of things roughly 60-70% of people doing the exam will answer Bishop, so it would be a tougher to do well considering you are going to be competing with far more people to have a stand out answer.
Personally I'm learning; Keats, Walcott, Longley, Bishop in that order.
I'll glance at Mahon for a worst case scenario aswell.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 884 ✭✭✭ya-ba-da-ba-doo

yeh i think its a bit TOO obvious bishops coming up this year...
