hmmm, I'm sure your intentions are good but I don't think you'll get much interest in this. So I'll offer my 2 cent.

Change the day to a Saturday. Call it the Boards Grudge Match. Make the Entry fee 150 euro freeze out with 10k in starting chips and 40 minute clock all the way with all levels. Most boards players have no interest in playing a crap shoot with far to many chips in play.

Now use the 1k to run a private bus from the city centre to the game, also run a bus back into town at 10 and 12 that night. anyone still in after that time can pay for a taxi with the winnings. If any money left over from the 1k use it to provide wine with some decent food on the day.

Maybe get a local pub beside you to run a special for the day.

The boards games are more about the social day, i.e drinking with the lads than a game off poker.

Maybe I'm totally wrong but I'm sure other people will post there opinions. I think to get boards players out to Celbrigde from Dublin you'll have to offer more than you have in the above.

    gl with the event.

    Hi

You will need to post up all the points as listed in the forum rules. The thread will be deleted tomorrow if these are not posted.

FWIW, Ollie has made some good suggestions there.

Never mind the buse's crap and boardsies social events. It's an event in itself to get one of you guy's in dublin to go from one end of O'Connell st.to the other for a game without having to offer rainbows and pots of gold (Lazy bastid's IMO) LOL.
Now back to the matter in hand . The game looks great John and with 1k added you should fill this in no time at all , you can count me in anyway . Its only an hours drive from monaghan

I've just moved to Lucan so will probably head up to this as well. It'll be handy to have a club within reasonable taxi distance. Is this the opening night of the club?

    Hi,

It's a new building on the main street just as you come over the bridge. It is above Pat Toolin Bookmakers.

Come on Ollie you know me I have a monthly deep stack game in the pipe line that you will love, better than anything I put on at the SE. (Full details to follow)
This tournament is intended to give everyone on here a chance to come in and see the new club plus we’re giving great value with €1,000 added to the prize pool.
You also know that I won’t allow the game to turn into a crapshoot so that comment was a little below the belt.
There will also be a complementary buffet for all players at the break as we have full kitchen facilities.
As far as your comment “I think to get boards players out to Celbrigde from Dublin you'll have to offer more than you have in the above.”
Celbridge is only 25 min from Dublin City center and not all people on Boards live in Dublin.
We are offering more than any other club or event on that weekend with a Free Tournament no registration, €1,000 added to the prize pool plus custom clothing and a trophy for the winner.
If I wasn’t working I would definitely be playing,

    John S.

It beggars belief when you get a new club offering so much and still getting knocked for it.

Good work Ross & John. Keep it up & best of luck with the new club.

Sorry John no offence was meant and your tourneys were always perfect in the SE, I just reckon you could model this on the 200 we first ran for the SE which was known at the time as a Boards event.

I'm sure the idea of this event is to get as many boards players out as possible as these are regular poker players and you've added some excellant value already. But poker players are lazy and I would love this venue to be big as its very handy for me.

Also a lot of players found Maynooth hard to find, Celbridge is only another 5 minutes out the road, but I just felt a bus in and out of town would get the business you want.

As I said at the time it was only my 2 cent and a few ideas or feedback.

you don't play much live poker than? short clock with loads of chips leads to slow action, but I'm sure you understood this.

Ok, fair enough Ollie; just that your first post came across as a piece sharp especially you knowing John so well.

In these recessionary times I'd never knock anyone who wants to add value to a poker tournament.

Nothing personal; I respect your views on poker & read your blog regularly.

    This tournament looks inviting.

I hope to get a pass-out for this as I lived for many years outside Celbridge.

There are a number of ways of getting to Celbridge from Dublin
    1. Dublin Bus No 67 to Celbridge at 18:20 or 18:50 Journey Time 70 Mins
    2. Irish Rail train from Dublin Heuston to Hazelhatch
    Depart 18:35 / Arrive 18:48 or 18:50 / 20:03
Hazel Hatch is a short 20/30 min walk from Celbridge Main Sreet.
    3. Irish Rail - Dublin Connolly to Maynooth
    Depart 19:05 / Arrive 19:35 or 19:10 / 19:50 or 19:36 / 20:15
then a 10/15 min taxi to Celbridge

This is my preferred route and it would be great if a 7 / 8 seater Taxi could be arranged to meet the19:10 & 19:36 trains from Connolly. Cost would be about 2 / 3 EURO per person.

John I hope this goes well for you.
You were always a joy to deal with at the SE.

It would be great if you could arrange for a 7 / 8 seater Taxi to meet at Maynooth station the 19:10 & 19:36 trains from Connolly. Boardies could indicate via this thread or text you which train that they intend to get. Also if you could agree a special rate with one of the local taxi firms for the trip from Celbridge to Dublin City Center (O'Connell Bridge). Suggest Taxi meter rate less a percentage of 10%, 20% OR 25%
