Does postcount matter? /postcount +1

Do you value the opinions of a person with a large post count more than someone with less posts?
Do you read the comment and then look at the post count and think 'hmm they have five thousand posts so they must know what there talking about'.
Or 'hmm they only have four hundred posts I will ignore there imput'.

Does anyone care about there or other peoples post count?

[Rant]Also something that annoys me is people who just say +1 or :D and nothing else on a comment, what a valuable input, no really. Is that not the point in thanks?*[/Rant]

*wonder if anyone will put +1 on this thread:rolleyes:

Could someone summarise this post for me? I don't read anything by people with under 500 posts.

I used to value it to some extent, but now most of the top posters on Boards get most of their post-count from the BGRH bar/the Lair/Ladies' Lounge general discussion thread.

That said, I think the number does still influence people on some level, even if they don't make a conscious decision to take it into account.

Of course it matters. The ladies on boards are all over victor and mike65.

I tryot to care, but I know myself that if I was looking for information on something, a part of my brain wouldn't trust someone who has just posted their 4th post or something. I don't know why, it's just the way it is.

The postcounts dont matter, its the posts themselves that do.

If I see somebody who has signed up for a year with 2000 or more posts than they do not get the same response from me as somebody with 2000 posts in 3 years

    NO, just look at mine.
A large post count does not mean that the poster is more intelligant than a poster with a smaller post count.
    It doesn't make sense.:)

Does anyone care about there or other peoples post count?

I can only speak for myself here, no.

[Rant]Also something that annoys me is people who just say +1 or :D and nothing else on a comment, what a valuable input, no really. Is that not the point in thanks?*[/Rant]

I think I only put the + thingy in once since I have been posting.
I normally thank the post because I agree with it and therefore no point in posting what I was going to say, or the post made me laugh.

    Yes.

I heard that it was actually a stickjob and that it was very unpleasent;)

In relation to post count I notice that the vast majority of people with less than 100 posts tend to get abuse and have their opinions ridiculed far more than those with a higher post count regardless of whether or not they have a valid point.

I think it should be quality over quantity.

I've the same attitude but I also make exceptions for people who are relativly new with very few posts as long as their not being muppets. We've all gone through it.

Apologies. It was meant as a harmless slag in a light hearted forum, directed at nobody in particular.

Though I am curious, how do you manage to post 28 times a day, EVERY DAY? This includes Christmas day and New Years etc

OR, it might mean posting more than 28 times on other days of the year to keep up the average?

I post when I post, how it adds up in statistics is nothing to do with me,tbh.

I know very well how AHs is lighthearted, but a smiley wouldn't go amiss when you post something that otherwise might annoy the poster you answered, yeah?;)

No it doesn't! That is not for all people though - i have on many occasions found people to be very hard on newbies, which is strange because everyone was new once!

I've lurked on boards since late '03, when i joined in '04 i think it was more of an issue than it seems to be now. Several times my post count was brought into discussion "Come back to me when you reach 100" etc etc but i don't really see that as much anymore.

No. I merely take the post's content into account.

Or 'hmm they only have four hundred posts I will ignore there imput'.
I don't think anyone would be that much of a moron.
I'd prefer my post count to be lower - it looks fairly sad. :o
Before I got my current job about 18 months ago, I had something like 3,500 posts.

I strongly disagree - it's not the post count, it's the person, how regularly they post, how long they've been a regular. And obviously a person with a high post count is going to be well known and received in a particular way. E.g. Wibbs is known as Boards.ie's wise old man :D and someone who posts very helpful nuggets. People will pay more attention to such posts by him than a very similar one by a newbie - not because Wibbs has a higher post count and they're looking down on the newbie, but because he's known for his insightful posts. That's just the way things are - nothing elitist or exclusionist meant by it.
People get a bit to hung-up about post counts.

I only see that happening if they're acting the twat - and usually that means re-reg/duplicate rather than newbie.

Would you say that newer users, who do not recognise the names/established characters, read into this in the same way? I've been on Boards for two and a half years, I've read nearly everything on the Biki and I know how most of the various fora work. But what about the new reg's (apart from returning trolls, obviously) and lurkers who stay silent, do you think many of them would share this sentiment?

in regards to merit and substance of a members post... no it doesn't. But I voted yes, in particular because of adverts.ie. On more than one occasion I've had a person trust me to do a bank transfer or accept my offer with the note that as I had a high post count I wasn't about to scam them and lose it.

It is a sign of and reason for trust that I have invested time into this site to post and build a network of people that know me, something I wouldn't want to simply throw away by scamming a person on adverts.ie. So, yes, imo a post count is important.
