knee injury...and...joining the gym

Hi, I have two queries that I would like to throw out...after much toing and froing i've decided to join the gym above....between location, size, pool and capacity it seems to suit me the best. I know Westpoint is alot cheaper but its just so busy its not worth it for me as I can only go on weekends and evenings.

    1) I just want to know if anyone on here has joined online? There is an option to put in a promo code for a discount but I havent heard of anyone to have seen or heard of one. I'd like to know so i can wait and see how much of a discount is offered before i go in and pay the €600 membership fee.

    2) I have a bit of time before i join as I am due surgery on my knee and i will be using the gym to get back my fitness. I have a torn patellar tendon and it needs to be surgically repaired. I'd say I have not run/trained since september and have put on about 2st, mostly arount the gut and face:rolleyes:.

I know the best routine for weight loss is weights but i will struggle with squats and any form of lower body work for the first 2 months of rehab so im just wondering what would be the best routine? I wont be able to run/row or use the bikes and I expect I will be purely swimming for the first 6/7 weeks.

Has anyone had this type of injury before or got any tips for getting my fitness back?

    Thanks for looking...

Sorry I don't have more to offer on the gym.

I did stress my knee pretty bad a few years ago.It wasn't as bad as yours but I was still out for a good few months.Regards the weights don't do anything until you are ready.I would recommend as you said hitting the pool for a few weeks. It is really not to be underestimated as a fitness tool.Make sure your technique is down and interchange between all the strokes. You could alternate between upperbody only or lowerbody only etc.walking lengths of the pool helps too.How are you with walking on it?hill walking and such is a good relatively low impact fitness tool.

I have not had the surgery yet, im due to get it done on May 8th so I have a bit of time to get a head start before the actual surgery. From what I have been told, I should be able to walk around within a week but he said it could be up to 4 months before I can handle any form of impact.

Dr. Ray Moran in the sports surgery clinic is carrying out the procedure so from what I hear im in good hands...its just afterwards and getting back to where I was last year that worries me lol..
