Best Protein Supplement/Shake?

I have been using mass gainers in conjunction with weights and good diet etc to gain muscle-
    - BSN True Mass
    then
    - MHP Up Your Mass

I think there are probably too many calories and fat in them and instead I would like to use a pure protein shake instead (twice a day, morning and after seesion). I hear some people use protein shakes and then add small amounts of concentrated aminos aswell.

Anyway I would just like recommendations of the best ones out there and maybe aminos like glutamine etc.

Also can someone recommend a good brand of creatine, I am taking Trec Nutirion CM 1250, anyone know of a better one. Cheers

Thanks for that BossArky. I know the sight but never really looked at the shakes section.

This is now what I'm thinkin of doin, tell me what ya think -

Gonna get a tub of protein, tub of glutamine and tub of creatine (powder not tablets)

Morning - into blender put your protein, then a scoop of glutamine and then a scoop of creatine, followed by a half a cup of oats, then fill with water not milk.

Evening - after session, same as above but without oats.

Also, I'd take creatine half hour before session too.

I think I prefer this idea to the mass gainers cause there is way less fat and calories, what ya think.

I've never used a mass gainer so I cannot comment. If you want to gain mass just eat more and drink milk in your shakes. If you have a shaker you can get away without using a blender. Saves time on washing up!

If you are new to that site and placing an order use my referrer code MP66955. You'll get a discount (5%?) and I think I will get the same on the next order I place.

Just checked my last order on there from October 2008. Still got a good bit left. Buy large-ish amounts to save on shipping. These is the stuff I got and would recommend:
    • 2kg Creapure (heaps of this left)
    • 2kg L Glutamine (~a month of this left)
    • 10kg Impact Whey Protein (~a month of this left)

Get natural whey instead of any flavouring which can be a bit sickly after a few months.

You can also get oats on there. They are too fine for porridge but good in shakes.

    Hope that helps.

I use unflavoured whey too, I got the blackstar labs strawberry flavouring on myprotein and it is very nice, you can make it as strong or weak flavoured as you like, and it is very strong, i.e. I use less than they recommend.

The oats are more expensive than in supermarkets here, and you are paying post on them. If you want fine oats I think some health shops sell oat flour. You can also just get regular porridge oats and blend them up when dry, so it makes a flour and you just wipe the blender clean. You can use them as wheat flour in recipies too, I make pancakes with mine.

They did reduce their postage to here recently too.

Thanks very much for the advice lads, really appreciate it and cheers for the customer no. Boss. I was just gonna go the local supplement shop but I reckon online will be cheaper.

One more question. Is there any problem in putting the creatine in the shake, will it devalue the creatine in any way.

Also is it ok to take these kinda shakes twice a day(leaving oats out of evening shake)

And would the shakes be better with water, milk can be fattening.

    Cheers again!

Again, it is fine. Just try and eat proper foods most of the time.

Milk will help recovery. If it seems you are getting fat from it replace with water.

Thanks again for the advice Boss, very helpful and I reckon I'll save a good bit by gettin my supplements through this crowd from now on. Probably gonna get half amounts of the items you recomended, I added that up and without shipping it was still like 100euro so thats enough to start with I think. Cheers again.

All the "best brands" tend to be ridiculously expensive. The best products are the inexpensive basics. Too many people get caught up in brand names, but that's a whole different discussion.

I used to buy my supplements from one of those fitness stores for about the last 6 months. The guy in there was incredibly helpful, even kinda did out a workout program for me but when I compare prices to buying off the net its rediculous. I have ordererd -
    1kg Creapure
    1kg L Glutamine
    5kg Impact Whey Protein
It cost around 100 euro, if I was to buy all this off your man it would be close to 180 euro :0

Brands become brand names because they are popular, usually from aquiring a name associated with quality.

Ive tried cheaper proteins, and the majority of time they are not as good, some due to taste & some hard on the stomach. 12 years of drinking the stuff and thats my view.

But as you said, thats a different debate!
