US Masters, final round Sunday

Day four in Augusta, and the early groups have teed off.

Padraig Harrington has just opened his final round with a birdie on #1 to move to -2. He's playing with Scot Sandy Lyle.

Rory McIlroy bogeyed #3 to drop back to +1 thru four. He's partnered with Englishman Luke Donald who is steady on even par.

Graeme McDowell bogeyed #1 to drop back to +1, before a birdie on #3 took him back to even par thru 3, and he's playing alongside Aaron Baddeley.

Despite being down the leaderboard, the pairing on Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will get a lot of attention today. They tee off at 1.35 local (6.35pm Irish).

Co-leaders Angel Cabrera and Kenny Perry, both on -11, will go out last at 2.35pm local (7.35pm Irish).

Before them, Chad Campbell (-9) and Jim Furyk (-8) tee off at 2.25pm (7.25pm Irish).

Steve Stricker is one further back on -7, and then there are four players on -6; Japanese golfer Shingo Katayama, Todd Hamilton, and South African pair Rory Sabbatini and Tim Clark.

My money is on Angel Cabrera.

Yeah I would say the Angel will take the title....if he mucks up Jim Furyk will be there to capitalise. Cant see Kenny Perry lasting the pace, and very unlikely anyone back on -5 or less will win, unless Tiger or Phil (or even Poulter ) have the round of thier lives

Prediciton: Cabrera to win by 1 from Furyk, score -12

McIlroy just double-bogeyed the par-3 fifth to drop back to +3.

Would love to see Cabrera win. I'd say the television suits here are praying for a US player to be in the mix in the last hour, or else they'll see ratings plummet as the "in the hole" crowd switch off when the US hero story fails to materialise.

Hopefully it will be exciting anyway, and there's a new winner.

Another bogey on #6 for McIlroy and he's already back to +4 thru seven.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,472 ✭✭✭stockdam

    Kenny Perry to win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

Harrington dropped a shot on the par-3 sixth to go back to -1.

McDowell has put together a nice few birdies on #3, #5 and #7 to move to -2.

McIlroy has pulled back a shot on the ninth to get back to +3. If he can get back to even par he'll be very pleased.

McIlroy picks up another shot with a birdie on the par-4 eleventh.

Harrington just triple-bogeyed the par-4 ninth, to drop back to +3.

McDowell is on -3 thru 9.

Phil Mickelson is on an early surge with two birdies on #2 and #3 to move to -6. Woods picked up a shot on #2 and is -5. They just finished on #4.

Steve Flesch is on a big charge with an eagle on the par-5 third, followed by a birdie on #4, to move to -6 thru 6.

Phil Mickelson birdies again on #5 to move to -7. He's -3 after five holes today.

Harrington just bogeyed #10 to drop another shot, now +4.

Yep Mickelson is making a move at last.

Has everyone started from scratch again as we are seeing Phil and Tiger all the time and the leaders are getting less air time. (only in USA)

    Ridiculous isn't it?

I've just seen Campbell for the first time, and it was a replay. Cabrera and Perry are getting the odd bit of airtime, and Mickelson and Woods are getting full coverage, despite Woods already remote chances receding with every shot.

It's not just the shot coverage, it's the 20/30 seconds of airtime, complete with the player/caddie discussion and analysis by the commentators, before they've even taken the shot. Then a replay and footage of them walking up the fairway.

On the other hand we're lucky to see the leader's shots live - they've just showed Cabrera shot wedge replayed.

Mickelson is just after putting another iron to within 2ft. A tap-in birdie for -9.

Mickelson taps in for the par after that fantastic approach shot.

-5 thru eight, unreal round so far. -9 overall.

Chad Campbell birdies #3 to move -10 on his own.

Perry and Cabrera remain on -11 after pars on the par-5.

McIlroy picked up a birdie on #13 to get back to +1.

McDowell has dropped two shots with a double-bogey on the par-3 twelfth.

Harrington is still on +3 thru 12.

lefty, only played 7, got the par 5 8th to come, may well make the turn in 30

only player who gets his shots live is Tiger.

even phil's tee shot on 8 wasn't shown

He's the man that generates the revenue from the armchair fans and barstoolers. Such a pity.

Cabrera birdies #3 to move to -12, as Perry can only par to remain at -11.

Campbell on -10, Mickelson on -9, and Furyk on -8.

Hopefully Cabrera can keep the momentum going now and keep the birdies coming in to stay clear.

Woods just rattled in a big eagle putt to go to -7 thru 8.

Mickelson adds another birdie on the same green to go to -10.

The CBS commentators are creaming themselves now.

Would love Phil to win to take the No.1 spot

Where is my pick Tim Clark? Had a great opening round

Poor drive by Woods on #9 leaves him with a tricky lie on the lip of the rough.

Mickelson has put his drive into the trees.

Cabrera has a very difficult par putt on #4 to remain at -12, he fails to par and bogeys to move back to -11.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 257 ✭✭Fairdues

Disappointing to see Padraig Harrington having such bad luck throughout this Masters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

Now Mickelson is in the bunker after his second on #9, and Woods is off the green beside the gallery ropes.

Both will do well to get up and down and save par.

Furyk bounced back after a bogey on #4 with a birdie on #5 to get to -8.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

Kenny Perry has parred his opening five holes to remain at -11.

Cabrera has a bit of a cock-up on #5, ends with a bogey and drops back to -10, along with Mickelson and Campbell.

Mickelson cards a 30 for his opening nine holes, which is a record-equalling Masters front nine. He's on -10 playing ten.

Woods is on -7 also playing ten.

Rory McIlroy had a great back nine with six birdies in ten holes to finish with a 70 and -2 overall, tied for 23rd.

Harrington birdied #13 to get back to +1 thru 14.

McDowell has had birdies on #13, #14 and #15 after that double-bogey at #12 and is now at -4.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

Kenny Perry missed about a 6ft putt for birdie on #7, remains one shot in the lead at -11.

Cabrera made par to stay at -10 along with Campbell and Mickelson.

I haven't seen Campbell in an age, and here he is on a replay of his teeshot on #8, which he puts in the bunker I think.

I feel like someone near the top of the leaderbaord is going to have a nightmare Amen Corner and take themselves out of the running.

Mickelson in the water on #12. Ends up with a double-bogey five on the par-3, drops back to -8.

Woods on the green, with a long birdie putt. He ends up with a par, -7 thru 12.

Chad Campbell birdies #8 to quietly move into the joint lead on -11.

Cabrera and Perry both made a mess of their second shots on #8, Perry with perhaps a 10ft for birdie, which he doesn't get. Cabrera has a long, long put across the green for birdie, which he also fails to get.

Jim Furyk birdies #8 to move to -9.

Harrington birdies #17 to get back to even par overall.

McDowell cards a fine 69 for -4 overall.

Did Woods wait to long to attack

Hard to know, he certainly has his work but out. He just birdied the par-5 thirteenth to move to -8.

Furyk just had a double-bogey which may put paid to his chances.

Big Phil hit a fantastic shot at the 15th....if he holes it he'll tie the lead.

another IF, but if he hadnt found the water on 12 it'd be all over now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

Woods and Mickelson both have great eagle chances on #15. Mickelson put his iron to about 4ft, while Woods has about perhaps a 20ft attempt.

Cabrera just dropped another shot on #10 to go back to -9, and Mickelson is almost certain to go to -11 with Perry after this short eagle putt.

Woods narrowly misses the eagle, and taps in for birdie to move to -9. Mickelson somehow misses the eagle putt and has to settle for birdie, moving to -10 thru fifteen.

Chad Campbell drops a shot on #11 and moves back to -9.

    OK
Lets call it who is the winner

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,472 ✭✭✭stockdam

    Great shot Tiger at 16.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

Woods is looking at almost a certain birdie on #16 after putting his tee shot to about 4ft.

Mickelson will have perhaps an 18ft putt for his birdie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,472 ✭✭✭stockdam

    Who'll win?

    Anybody's guess.

    Maybe a three way tie?

    Woods, Phil and Perry.

I dunno why but I have never liked Perry..

Woods needs this birdie on 16 to pile it on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

Woods birdies #16 to join Mickelson on -10, one back from Perry who leads on -11.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,096 ✭✭✭✭the groutch

never liked perry either, possibly because of his snubbing of certain tournaments

Woods for a play off me think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,472 ✭✭✭stockdam

Who would bet against Woods winning now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

Campbell has birdied to also move to -10.

Cabrera has a decent birdie chance on #12.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,543 ✭✭✭JerryHandbag

This is thrilling stuff from the Tiger/Phil group.....it started off is if it was a mini-tournament between the two, and now the way things are going you feel the winner might come out of that group.

Mickelson has played some outrageous golf today. Kenny Perry hangin on gamely, hasnt folded like I thought he would
