I got mine sorted today. Bought mine in the Spar at the junction of North Earl St.

    First things first:

They charge you €3.50 in the shop for any top-ups to €350 and €5.95 for ones between €350 & €500.

You will then be charged, from your card balance, 2.95% for using it Online, over the phone or in a shop.

    It's cost's €1.50 for ATM transactions.

I took out €50 no problem from a Bank Of Ireland machine and a Centra let me buy €9.77 worth of food without asking for pin, just swiped and ask me to sign.

I'll let you know if Betfair will let me use it tomorrow :)

Ryanair prepaid card is better, only 85 euro pre year charge, and 0.75c pre transaction, and pin and chip.

    :)

I believe that is correct, the cardboard card can only load the mastercard once, then you register and the official one arrives in the post a week or so later.

    regards,

That's correct. Thought the OP was refering to the 'Permanent Loading Card' he received through the post.

I'm still waiting for mine also.

I've posting on the 'Prepaid Debit Card Experiences' thread that the CCV codes are now on the Payzone Mastercard's website so it can now be used to shop online.

Will post back and report how things go ..

What's the craic with the 2.75% Sterling & Dollars transaction fees? Would that kick in with Ebay and PayPal transactions? Does the Net+ or Halifax.ie cards have these cross border transcation fees?

Their website that says it's "FREE to use in shops and online!" is a bit misleading if they're charging you a percentage when you use it!!

2.95% could amount to a fair bit..

Has anyone linked this card to their eBay account?

    ---

I am currently using 3V, but for some reason can't pay through Paypal, even for external PayPal payments, not requiring Paypal, such as Deal Extreme.

I used my card last week in Spar and they haven't taken 2.95% off as of yet. Has anyone had them take this precentage so far?

Or is it just like the Ryanair card in that they will only charge that if it's not Euros?

If you go onto the payzone.ie website on the main page it should have a dropdown bar with all their services, what you are looking for is payzone worldwide money and the you should be able to select a county and you should be able to find a location near you.

In Dublin the Spar on O'Connell Street and Talbot Street seem to be the two to use. The website says loads of Spar's and Londis around the city I can assure you they don't and they tend to make a song and dance when you ask them if they don't know.

I think some shops think your trying to rip them off with a homemade mastercard or something. I had four staff surround me in the Spar (or is it Londis) on the corner of Westmoreland Street / O'Connell bridge syaing "please sir, you have to leave, we no do these cards, please sir, we have to call the guards".

All I had asked was could they swipe the Loading card through their system. They wouldn't even try, despite me explaining to them, very nicely I might add, that their shop is listed on the PayzoneMoney.ie website.

One guy from India, really smugly said 'What's the name of this road then' and smiled at the rest of the staff .. I just calmly said Westmoreland Street and told him that I worked on this very spot 18 years ago when it used to be Abrakebabra.

Knew there was no point asking anymore as when I was explaining to him about the PayzoneMoney.com website listing their shop and showing him the web address on the loading card, I could see he wasn't paying attention as he said "okay, I tell my boss about the website, now please leave ..".

I said "you gonna tell your boss about the website?" .. he said "yes" and said "What's the website address?" and put the card down I was showing him.

He starting stuttering and said "payzone.ie website" and I just laughed and said "no mate, don't worry about it, I'll talk to your boss myself tomorrow, I knew you weren't paying a slight bit of attention to what I was saying, you just wanted me out and that's fine I'll talk to your boss in the morning".

From some reason at this point the guy said to me 'No, I won't take slander!" and the big bouncer guy starting laughing at him and so did all the other staff.

Then as I went to leave another member of staff called me back and took my name and the PayzoneMoney.ie website details and said he say it to his boss and make sure the system is set up to take the loading cards asap.

I just hope this stuff is teething hassles as I thought I'd be putting experiences like this behind me after all my years using 3V Vouchers :)

Gonna try opening a Halifax account tomorrow also after the good reports.

    Nico

I know there are alot of staff who do not realise they have this on their pinklink system, however if you can manage to get one of the to listen to you, tell them on their pinklink machine there should be other services on their menu options. It is within the other services option that they shall find worldwide money option for the cards.

AFAIK all the systems have this set this way, there will be engineers coming around shortly to all the payzone shops to update and improve the system. This might help generate awareness amongst staff.

just ordered the pay zone card, it looks handier then the 3v vouchers, has anyone experience with the ryanair card, is it worth €85?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 685 ✭✭✭jackbauer

i've had the ryanair since feb. no regrets. seems to be the more "professional" of the available prepaid cards. Lodge money from any postoffice is a huge bonus and only takes 3 hours to appear on the card. even at weekends.

To be honest I think I'll be staying away from prepaid mastercards. I use 3v every once in a while which can be ok for buying stuff online but this mastercard thing is just riddled with fees, such as not using your card for 3 months they charge you a few euro. Like not using your card is really costing them! Sure a debit card will only be 10euro stamp duty per year. All I see with this mastercard is hassle and money loss.

Ha sorry I know I did rant on a bit but it had to be said! :P

I agree . I'll be sticking with the 3V as their charges are open and transparent. It's grand for once off use. Sod paying a % every time I use the card and sod paying a charge if it's not used .

I think everyone who wants to buy online is being taken for a ride here.
UK people can use their debit cards to buy online but us poxy Irish have to jumps through hoops and get these crap prepaid things.

I think that any website that is making a sizeable ammount of money from Irish customers should have to cater their site for us and accept Laser. I bang my head off a wall at the fact that Play accepts Maestro but not Laser, they accept Euro payments but not Laser and they make a bloody fortune from ROI

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6 P.Bear

I don't think I'll ever touch a real credit card!! Me with something of the sort could be disasterous. Laser I can handle but if it's the account I get paid into then I'll be in trouble. I think 3v keeps me in line! ha

Credit cards should be renamed "Debt cards" anyway.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6 P.Bear

Yup I agree. It's beyond me why anyone would need one if they could afford what they're using it for. They just make it way too convenient to spend.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,443 ✭✭✭Red Sleeping Beauty

That's the crux of it right there. It's in everyone's best interests to keep us all in credit debt.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 675 ✭✭✭poindexter

i use it for it's paypal usage only, there might be a charge but whats the alternative~??? i can only use whatever amount i put on the card, so am not in debt to it

I hated 3V .. I must have left 100's of euros on the vouchers as it was too little to redeem and they charge you 2.50 just to transfer money from one voucher to the other.

Heard ya the first time :)

Reminds me of the guy in Goodfellas, "Gonna get the papers, get the papers" :D

I'm not sure that this will be more expensive than 3V. I haven't be charged any fees yet except the Eur3.50 for the Top-Ups and if needs be you can use the ATM. I also haven't been charged the Eur1.50 for this either but I'm sure I will.

Also, it's good to know you can top-up and if a balance remains you can use it in any shop. Spar asked me tyo sign when I bought stuff and didn't need the pin.

You can't even go on Ebay these day's without having a Credit / Debit card to verify your not a crook. Lot's of people on low-wage jobs can't get credit cards yet need one to get things done.

Look at the situation with concert tickets. Most go within the hour to people with five or six credit cards getting eight tickets on each card and then flogging them for three times their face value. I had mates who stayed out overnight outside the Jervis Street Centre's ticket master to get U2 Croke park tickets and were turned away as the tickets went on sale at 8am online.
