    Can someone tell me what muscle groups pullups target? Say with hands shoulder-width, facing both towards and away from me?

    They're compound excercises so they target a variety of muscles such as the back, lats and biceps.

    If you do knee raises or L-sits while doing your chins/pullups it is even more of a compound exercise. And surprisingly I do not find my reps going down much, if at all when doing this combination. But I usually do weighted ones now with a belt so cannot do them.

    OP when reading sites most will say chinups are palms facing you, pullups are palms away. I find chins get the bicep more, and pullups get the back more. Most can do more chins than pullups. If you are doing 3 sets you might go pullup, pullup/chinup, chinup. This means you start on the hard ones first and might be able to match those reps on your last "easier" set of chins.
