Will be on for a spin on Saturday but not at nine :).

Hey - might be up for it myself (when time agreed!).
Had crash on way home today so will have to wait and see if things get swelled or whatever...Cruising up bus lane in Clontarf coming up by WestWood when a car came across the traffic and filled up the lane. I tried, but no chance to stop. Bit of a sore wrist at this stage. All very nice at the scene and a kind chap (not the driver) drove me home. Suppose will have to replace the fork - it's carbon??? At least I have the good bike while I get it sorted.

Us 2 climbing godesses ( cough cough ) LDB and I went to to the 'lookout' for a short easy spin up Edmonstown rd after work. Only 50km for me. It was so windy ...

Do not mention wind! Against my better judgement, I decided to get a little climbing in after work on Tuesday, laps of Ballyboden - Stocking Lane - Cruagh - Edmondstown Road. By the time I got to the Hellfire car park the rain was coming sideways and up off the road and I'd swear at one stage the bike actually moved a couple of inches to the side*

    *May not actually be true

Mmmm...an overwhelming response there. So that's Hurin, maybe Cadex, and Emty if we were to wait for his croissants to settle? Is everyone out of town or something?

I might be on for this. Slightly later than 9 would also suit me better. Will post in a while to confirm.

I'm injured from a crash last weekend, otherwise I would be out.

He lost ten pints of blood, had to have one leg amputated and has a dozen broken ribs. He hopes to be back on the bike by Wednesday.

I have 2 partially assembled/unassembled bikes, so am out this week... next week though Excentrifugal Forz will be out in style!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

Well, my holiday plans have been cancelled so I don't really have an excuse not to head out. I'll either be out with boards or a friend, not sure yet.

    I'll go. What time again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,087 ✭✭✭unionman

I'd be up for a 10am start (or 930 Inchicore time for my local boards cycle comrades).

I'll check this thread later to see if it's happening.

Well, the centre of gravity seems to be slipping towards 10am, but I have things to do in the afternoon so the Rottenhat train will be pulling into Dundrum at 8:58, departing 9:00am sharp for Edmondstown Rd, Sally Gap, Laragh, Wicklow Gap, Poulaphuca reservoir and back into the city. Hopefully I can avoid the embarrassment of being overhauled by the later departure.

I'm taking my sister in law to Wicklow for her first time tomorrow ..Edmondstown road, Sally gap, Laragh, Djouce, home
If you guys are heading in the same direction we will keep an eye out and try to hook up. we still need to arrange our departure time, it'll be early enough.

9.30am is fine by me... is that late enough for Emty, LDB or unionman?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 385 ✭✭emty

Myself and Unionman can meet the Dundrum mob at the viewing point at 9.30/40.
HOWEVER I lay claim to a TEN o clock start next Saturday, don't care where we go :)

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 4,054 Mod ✭✭✭✭Planet X

Above, there's a 10am, 9am and 9:30 start from Dundrum. What is it to be? I'm easy.

I'm on for this too - could we please agree on a time? I'll be offline in 30 mins so can we say 930?

Just back ... 112.5kms for me ... started off with The Claw and Hurin from Dundrum ... and met Emty, PlanetX, Dave and a few others at Kippure ... lovely day for a spin ... and good to have the company even if for a short while.

My insights into how I can beat Ryan in a time trial upto Kippure on the time trial page ... :)

PlanetX, Dave ... thanks for the tow back to Dublin

    likewise, short circuit!

a short enough one for me, 76km, felt the 90km from yesterday and the stupid fact that i brought practically no food with me (on that note, thank you to the claw for the nutrigrain, wouldn't have made it to the petrol station but for that!) after a tiny breakfast. i've always heard about the mysterious bonk, managed to get away with what i think was the early stages of it today...

Yeah you were really getting into it, hiding in the undergrowth, snapping boardsies from the wheel, and hot Czechs!

+170km for me. Totally smashed right now... I mean completely... never been this bad. A beautiful day which started with Edmondstown Road, Stocking Lane, Sally Gap, Waterfall, Laragh. Then we went back up by the waterfall to find the rest of our party who we had agreed to meet in Laragh for coffee. Found them and came back down and eventually carried on to Roundwood and over Djouce. Then I had to turn right around and go back over Djouce and back to Roundwood to find the rest of the party again. We had agreed to split up and meet on the other side of Djouce... but they just didn't seem to be coming. Back in Roundwood and I find that an emergency lift home has been sorted for one half of the party as they had taken unwell :(. This left myself and one more in Roundwood, with just Djouce to go over! Not again! So began the longest limp home ever as I went over Djouce for the third time. Poggio was a nightmare as was the drag out of Enniskerry. The headwind out the coast towards Sutton wasn't any fun either. Did I enjoy the cycle? Hell yeah! :)

118km for me and I was home by 1:30...a salient reminder that life can't always be bombing along at 35-40km/h behind a big pack of taller, stronger cyclists. Beautiful day for it all the same.

There was one guy sitting at the lookout point when I passed at 9 but I figured it was too early for any boardsies to be out so I kept on rolling.

If you're heading out of Enniskerry, it's the short descent after the Powerscourt gardens to the one-lane bridge. If you're heading towards Enniskerry after a long day in the mountains, it usually seems to have become much steeper and longer than the last time you saw it.

Alternatively, it's the final climb on the Milan-San Remo but if Raam went that far today, I'm not surprised he's feeling wiped.

I had hoped to finally hook up with the group today (no shift work or kids chauffeuring) but got going too late. Funny, even after no gargle last night and a good breakfast, I felt the strain early and suffered what I presume is the mysterious "bonk". Should have turned back at Glencree but went to Sally Gap. Didn't even enjoy the descent past Luggala. Not nice and took a while to recover despite a heap of jaffa cake bars and drinks.

On another note, due to work I am used to midweek cycling so the amount of traffic/coaches/people etc. around made for a very different atmosphere and slower descents. Big difference there.

Great day. My first century (106km) of the year, with more climbing in a single day than I have ever done before (thanks to the good advice, coaxing and sheer bloodymindedness of Jedi master emty:D)

Stocking Lane, Kippure (which was far better than my last attempt - and got to meed LDB and friend up there), Sally Gap, Lugalla, Lough Dan, Laragh, Waterfall, Sally Gap, Manor Kilbride and Bohernebreena.

Outstanding day, great cycling and, above all, excellent company, thanks to one and all, that was great.

Not too early for me ;). I rolled out of Castleknock at 7:15am and hit Sally Gap crossroads around 9am*. A loop round Lugalla, Lough Dan, Laragh (for coffee and croissants), Wicklow Gap and Lackan saw me hitting Sally Gap again around 12:30pm!

Limped home around 2pm after a solo 150km - my toughest day in the saddle ever. Tired now, but the Erdinger is helping to numb the pain :)

Lovely day for it though. Views around Lugalla were stunning at that hour of the morning.

(*So it wasn't me taking a break when you passed)

Hey lads, thanks for a great day today. A day of firsts for me including Stocking Lane, Kippure, and that whole bit home from Sally Gap (via Kilbride and all). Very happy to be able for it and really enjoyed it. In the end 125.6k for me. Will add pictures later.
