Woman shoots her son then herself at shooting range

Sick Marie Moore took her 20-year-old son Mitchell to a shooting range for what he thought would be an afternoon's firing practice.

But as he aimed at the target in front of him, the crazed mum pulled the trigger and gunned down Mitchell at point blank range in Casselberry, Florida.

“I’m so sorry. I had to send my son to heaven and myself to Hell,” she wrote in a suicide note.

    Pretty mental.

It's strange that the location of this kind of craziness is nearly a given at this stage.

She was obviously mentally ill and received either no treatment or the wrong treatment. It is a disease - she is to be pitied. If she died from untreated cancer we would feel pity. The saddest part is she took her innocent son with her. It is a terrible story.

I'm for gun control everywhere except the USA.
Also I suggest we take the warnings labels of everything, in the USA.

Quoted for truth. Such a strange country, the US. Really makes you wonder.

    Those are pretty chilling photographs.

In the tapes, she said she had spent long stints in psychiatric hospitals and felt mental “misery and torment”.

She had suffered hallucinations which convinced her she was being buried alive, eaten by ants, burned at the stake and gassed.

Questions were today asked as to how she was allowed to rent guns at the range, as it emerged she had been barred after attempting to commit suicide there seven years ago.

She also had two convictions for driving under the influence, which should have disqualified her from handling weapons.

I think this is another example of a crazy person released into the community who should not have even been on the streets nevermind a gun range.

Would you say the same if it were a man?

Would a man in this condition have been allowed to keep his child?

I blame God. Why the hell did he tell her to do that? What a sicko..

    But of course, mother.

Keep her 20-year-old son? I think state intervention at that age would be unlikely.

actually, yes I have done. There was an Oprah show about a man who suffered from severe Depression who killed both of his children one afternoon. He didn't kill himself tho' and is in prison for whatever charge they got him on - apparently having not taken the fact that he'd been treated for Depression for years into account.

Oprah interviewed him [IMO overly harshly] and I couldn't help but feel sorry for the poor fella, he'd killed his kids to save them from whatever delusion he was living in because of his illness ...

Same goes for the fella who threw his kids and himself off a balcony somewhere [was it last year?]

Depression is a serious illness, not some flip excuse for sitting on your arse all day. Left untreated, or mis-treated, it can have fatal consequences.

Yeah that guy who threw his son off the balcony was extremely ill and got slated (including by men). I just feel extremely sorry for him... The remorse he has shown since more than indicates how he didn't mean it. He has tried to kill himself since also.

You have to wonder how often that happens. I mean, gun ranges are rarely if ever carpeted, which would make more sense for sound dampening, but...

God yea - my comment had nothing do with what sex she was. She was mentally ill. I don't see how her sex has anything to do with it.

As for whether a man in this condition would have been allowed to keep his child - can't answer that one. In this case child was an adult too. Would hope no child would be subjected to the dangers of living with a mentally ill parent - regardless of gender of parent.

Just wondering if my username was unisex would you have made your comment? Your assumption is Im female - Im assuming your male....

say what you will about the dangers of guns, it won't be until the government steps in and makes automobiles illegal that we can really make life safer for the children.

Gun ranges in just about every town, thats for sure. But deranged mothers doing that? not so much. Unless you happen to know for a fact this happens on a regular basis, which, you don't.

No mention on Boards of the guy in Germany two days ago who shot three people in a courtroom before killing himself? (At least, I've not seen it)

Of course, doing so doesn't fit in with the whole "Americans and their guns, particularly, are crazy" meme...

    NTM

    Well,

    a) He wasn't American, so naturally it wouldn't fit into the Crazy Americans meme

    and

    b) When was the last time you heard of a German schoolkid going on a shooting rampage? If it becomes as regular an event in Germany as it is in the states, then maybe you'll start seeing "crazy Germans and their guns" threads.
