Interesting already - TD's can't leave the chamber with a copy of the budget speech. All parties are going mad over this.

Lots of drama over the press getting copies of the budget statement.

Apparently the press had copies of the Budget statement before the members of the Dail

    Chaos in the Dail now

Nope, that's always been the case. Apparently the press had copies in advance, or that's the impression I get :D

    Talk about a clusterf**k.

They're trying to lock the TDs in the chamber to stop them walking out with the speech. While reporters can.

Labour and FG are rightly up in arms.

it's gonna get nasty. You can see it already.

Anyone think that there is an outside chance that this might not actually get passed

Did you hear that it is almost entirely the rest of the world, particularly the brits who are to blame...

What about bankers and corruption in developments?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

Aye, it got a brief mention despite ****ing all of us over as much if not more than anything else he's mentioned

All I'm getting from the speech so far is arrogance. Really. A complete refusal to accept any sort of responsibility for the housing bubble. The government have no hope of gaining broad support for this budget with this attitude. If they would just acknowledge and apologise for some of their mistakes they would have a far easier side rallying people together.

And have it thrown in their face in the next election? No way; they will continue to blame everyone else including the opposition and Chutlu until the sun dies down. Now once they are elected again they MIGHT admit a very minor part of the guilt and then quickly point out how the opposition are so much more guilty though.

I think he meant that people on 50k would pay an additional 1500 per. their levy increases from 1% to 4%

    50,000 @ 1% = 500
    50,000 @ 4% = 2000

is this what he meant ?

    ouch ouch ouch

I think they're trying to get it in under the radar, I agree in that they should just reduce it
