Race mixing, would you look down on it?

Lately I've been seeing a lot of irish girls with guys of different races. Even starting to see the young skangers getting stuck into the young negros around the spire area a lot lately. I think this is a good thing as its about the person not the race. However, talking to a close friend on mine worried me somewhat. She told me that she regularly gets stared at (she is going out with a nigerian guy) as she is walking down the street with the guy and the odd comment would come her way. I think this is a minority view but she seemed to think that most Irish people would be like that. Whats your opinion on it?

BF is of Indian descent and we've only felt uncomfortable about that once. When we went to Alton Towers two years ago and there were lots of large Indian or Pakistani families out for the day. We were with my two best mates (girls) and the families kept staring at us and whispering - or walking past and the stopping to turn around and stare. I thought I was being paranoid but my two friends commented on it afterwards. I guess they thought he was an Indian immigrant that had strayed outside his culture which can often be quite disapproved of in tight immigrant communities.

To be honest, I don't care what other people think of mixed relationships. It's my life and their opinion doesn't count.

My OH is from South Africa (hence the Indian descent part). During apartheid which only ended 15 years ago, and he remembers (he remembers being told to leave a beach because he wasn't white), we would have been imprisoned for having a relationship as I'm white and he's Indian. Imo, it's not far from tutting at mixed relationships in the street to thinking that people should be imprisoned for it. It's just pure, common ignorance - and I've no time for it.

Negro is the word used to describe blacks .

It has nothing to do with offence unless you want to go into the Honky ( white ) N igger ( black ) lingo world .
