What internet term do you hate the most?

With the ever growing want for a more smaller faster way to communicate with one another, a lot of internet terms get put around. I.E Lol, LMAO or my personal favourite Pwnd. But that being said, dosen't it just annoy you when somepeople use an internet term. What internet term do you hate the most?

For I hate Noob. Whenever you play online and you get that player who isn't as great a player as the rest of them, the other players call him/her/it a noob which I never really understood, only for the fact that it's meant in an insulting way. Anyway I really hate those players online who think they're god's gift to the game, and therefore feel the need to put down a player because they are no good. Anyway that's the term I hate the most.

BTW i'm sure i'm going to get some poster on this saying i'm the one who gets called a noob and that I should get out of the house more often and stop playing these game, but i assure you i'm not like your man out of South Park during that episode when they played World Of Warcraft and the guy is killing everyone and they need that special weapon to defeat him, can't remember what it's called.

I don't really mind any internet term. Bloody leet speak annoys the hell out of me though. Oh, and it's a bit weird when people use internet stuff in real life. "I lolled" etc. Did you yeah? Good for you.

PS why did you have to say "the game" op, why?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36,634 ✭✭✭✭Ruu_Old

Epic or fail (or both combined), seemed to flood the messageboards more than usual when that "Anonymous" lot came about. Now people use it all the time, 'film was epic', 'my car didn't start this morning-fail' etc.*punch*

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,378 ✭✭✭Krieg

Agree with OP on the "noob" thing

Nothing really gets on my tits, but I hate hearing people say "Lol" on TS/vent, literally saying it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,173 ✭✭✭lolli

A long long time ago when I was 14 I started using chatrooms I noticed everyone was saying "lol" I was totally freaked out because its what my family and friends call me in person. I had no idea how all these people knew my name :D

I hate "rofl" dunno why just dont like the way it looks.

and we don't have enough roflcopters in the world for my liking, too little imo

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

None in particular, but rather it's the frequencey that serves to irritate me. It's like salt, a little can add a bit of flavour, but too much is like poison. So while something like 'fail' can be a great way to punctuate a situation, 'lol fail omg noob' paints the person who said it as a complete f*ckstick.

So no, there's no internet terms I hate really, just the irritating persons who overuse them.

ftw (for the win). You see it all over the net and it's pretty much universally accepted cyber language now , yet I'm pretty sure to date I've never heard or overheard anyone say it in real life. I can only presume that's because it is a ridulous phrase that any sane minded person would be embarrased to utter to another person for fear of (justified) ridicule.

    Long answer:
People who pronounce l.o.l as laaaaawl and then say that in REAL LIFE.

But whats even WORSE is that these people have now gone as far as typing that sound INSTEAD of typing lol.

    Short answer: lawl.

It's not a word but the rolly eyes smiley really annoys me
It's the equivilant to whatever..it's not a coherent argument it's just a face

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

I don't mind any of them but can't take text speak. It makes the user look like a stupid teen.
Leet speak can be annoying too. I really don't like haxxor in any form.

And as Moo said, the roll eyes smiley. I see a lot of newbies use it in the wrong context thinking it adds cool to their post. It does not.

I use lol in real life sometimes. I think it expresses something that the standard English language can't do so concisely.

People who think the roll eyes means acerbic sarcasm or something along the lines of "how thick are you, f******d?".

It just looks like a light hearted eye-flick to heaven with knowing grin attached. As if to say "yeah, yeah, come on now, pull the other one!".

See? How can you get mad at that? Oh, you whimsical little rolling eye guy! I don't care what the others say about you!

Similarly noob. It used to mean "new guy". Newb, newbie, just got the boat and doesn't know that shady Carlos is not really his new best friend. New. Not idiot, which is what the 12 year-olds on Xbox or CS think it means.

    12yrolmuppet: Hazz!11!! u gt p0wn3d, n00bb!!

Me: Noob? I bought this game with money I earned from a part-time job when it first came out. I liked the game but actually had a social life so I didn't waste a significant portion of my youth refining my "leet gaming" skills. You would have been learning to make joined up writing at the time. So who's the noob?

12yrolmuppet: HUH?!? Dis game only jus cam on XBL tho???
