Stupid M3.......

As i have mentioned i have the car up for sale, first person to view it came last night

and as i expected, he is very interested, we started to talk price last night, but basically im not interested in moving too much and told him it might be best if he had a think about it over night and called me today, so we will see later on,

however, ive just been looking on carzone, ideally i dont want to spend any more than 27.5k on my next car given the way of the world at the moment,

im struggling to find anything to compete with my car :(

if i had never owned it, an audi s3 or golf r32 might appeal, that kind of thing, but id imagine that would feel like a serious step back.

im questioning now why im selling and all i keep coming back to is that i always sell after a year because there are 100s of cars i want to try before i die :D

but this thing is so good, a replacement may be hard to find

    Stupid m3 :D

Don't sell! pull out of the sale. Keep the M3 and then rent the others for some spirited driving without the consequences ;)

The next few years are not the time to be playing the field. If you like your M3 keep it, unless you see something you feel you could hold onto for 2 to 3 years. Not likely by the sounds of it.

The only cars worth buying now as a passing fancy are the cars of our youth, 80's & 90's hot hatches and sports saloons, which can be got for banger money. Or if you really must a track car.

i dont think there is a car out there id hold onto for 2 or 3 years:p

As for the cars to try before you die......

Rent them over a few weekends and give it some :D

I can see why it's hard to sell your M3, very nice.

Just looking at the pics there, paint still looks 100% when the sun is shining on it. Credit to you.

I'd keep it - but we talked at length about your car history and need to change before so i reckon you're fighting a losing battle by thinking of keeping it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,496 ✭✭✭quarryman

cyrus, you sell your cars, that's what you do.

I need to see what you get next. move on!

The next step up from an M3 and you're getting into (junior) supercar territory. The way you are going, you'll be running out of cars too soon :D

Or perhaps the missus will force you into buying an MPV in a few years time when there's a few anklebiters around :p

ill be 29 in sept, i have 2 years max left id say :D so ill save the m5 until then :p

unfortunately i dont think my budget will stretch to a decent 911, i know opinion is divided but i do really like the 987 boxster, but again it would be a stretch to get one at circa 30k

645 would be nice too, rumble rumble v8 :pac:

edit - got a laugh out her last night, we were down in blackrock getting some groceries and i see a 911 with a baby seat :D that i said, is the future ;)

I'd say it's very difficult to top your car as it's on par with 911's, M5's etc. May be a reality check is in order, no disrespect?
I would suggest you consider CSL (now that's a keeper in my book) but I think they are still making good money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,718 ✭✭✭Matt Simis

How about e39 M5s or E63 645s? The M5 might be a bit too similar, but is more powerful while the 645 is close in power but is a proper (ie purpose built) coupe?

They both have that now-attainable appeal of being super expensive only a few years ago.
I too cant really hold on to anything over the 2 year mark.

EDIT: Lol, only just read this reply now, great minds and all that! :D

I'm not surprised, some of the replacement suggestions made me throw up a little in my mouth, imo unless you are happy to downgrade in power or spend a lot there is little point in selling on.

you might want to make up your mind - its not very fair on prospective buyers, who come out and look at the car in good faith, to be told "ah actually Ive decided to keep her"

Couldn't agree more. I would keep the M3 for at least another year or two. With the savings from the lower depreciation (of keeping your car) you can make the step up to something in the next league when you eventually decide to sell.

well only person has come and he has yet to make me an offer, so i dont have to cross that bridge yet and to be fair it is my perogative at the end of the day, it would be a different thing if i accepted an offer and then changed my mind

cyrus.. you're not going to find much to compete with the M3 for that money. Honestly, I won't be moving (unless jobloss requires it or something) until I'm ready to move to an RS4 or an M5.

    Don't sell it.

Only had this conversation with someone two hours ago.

He wants to get that black S3 in Grange and wants to trade a 08 OPC for it.

I said I can't see myself changing anytime in next few years...what do you replace an M3 with??

    I'd keep it.

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,611 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

Thats prob what you said when you got the S3 and the 335 though Mark!!!

R8/M6 or 911? Again anything better is a stepup in cost imo

    Comparing this 1993 thing to a M3...

I find that to be a very ignorant statement.

This "1993 thing" is the finest car Honda has ever produced and is more like an everyday supercar than anything else mentioned.

It would certainly be in my 100 cars to drive before I die list.

Once again I suggest you know what you're talking about before you criticise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭Keith in cork

There is NOTHING else in that range that compares to the M3, likewise in the M5 range. If your that keen on something different, look into some asthetic changes or better still performance. Not every change has to fit under the stereotype "boyracer".
There are some very decent lips, skirts or full on valances that will transform the look of your M3, leaving you feeling refreshed, like your driving something new (strange i know but the visual appeal of your car wears off the more you look at it, and a change can bring back the "love" you once held for your motor, wouldn't have bought it first day otherwise)

Not wanting that, you can go down performance routes. With the already superiour performance of the M3, i'd focus on tweeking the handling to suit your driving style a bit more. As we all know bmw have to build to please most and comprimise on some of the finer touches that will either not suit everyone or change the costing of the genre their aiming for and price range they need to hit, oh and we are all unique.
I'm not talking about sitting oit on the floor or making it as comfortable as a 1900's horse and cart, but being an M3 driver you'll know what i'm getting at.

Sticking bits onto the outside of something like an M3 or any other such car should be a criminal offence.

    unbelievably misinformed;)

The companies who make the origional bumpers "stuck onto" the M3 and such do their own varietions for those who may be happy with how it looks but feel it can be improved. As said, designers have to make allowances for the masses as opposed to the individual.

thats it, and their in partnership with bmw/merc etc to produce a car for those who love the "base" model but want that something extra/different.

Exactly, so these cars have enough extra bits as it is straight out of the factory.
