Have you got the Atari Lynx Emu running on it? As simple as the instructions are, it just won't work for me. Have tried a fair few times and keep getting the same error message.

Haven't tried yet, but there was an emu/fix for it on a forum, not sure if it's ok to post a link to it here, so I'll pm it to you. It's part of a bigger file which sorted out a few things that didn't work for me.

Here's a good review. The user (Ashens) usually reviews tacky electronics, but he did give a good review of the Dingoo.

Oh, that rock intro stops at 20 seconds, so you should skip over that.

    Or, just buy a PSP!

    Wannabe James May or what?

I'd say buy a psp too after using the GP2x-Wiz, IMO its too small for adult hands for comfortable gaming.
At least the PSP you can play a few newer games and the PSone games too.
Hacked PSPs have come a long way in the past few years

Well the thing is that the PSP emus at least are regularly updated and generally those updates are in english, not engrish, which is nice.
Look forward to the PSPGo being blown wide open for Homebrew, then I can pick one up.

Does the PSP go take any physical media at all? I thought it was just download only so you couldn't really do anything dodgy with it?

I really must start using my PSP more again. It gets put away and doesnt get used for months. It's just a little too big to be carrying around in my pocket. Gameboy Micro is perfect for that.

that YouTube review actually put me off a bit

I have one of these ordered. Should be with me in a couple of weeks.

The things that swayed it for me were it's portability and the ability to lash vids and music onto it without worrying about formats.

Just ordered one myself. I've have a GP32 and GP2X but just couldn't convince myself to buy a Wiz no matter how hard I tried.

I might just resurrect this thread for a short while, considering a Dingoo A320 from DealExtreme, they work out at about €55, anyone have any thoughts or experiences on the Dingoo or Dealextreme?

I've had my dingoo from dealextreme about 6 months now. Didn't bother with a linux mod, happy enough with stock. Got a nintendo ds pouch to keep it safe.

Dealextreme are reputable, but there's two things about getting this from them. You'l be waiting upto a month for it in the post & youl be liable for a vat charge once it arives. If I was getting this again I'd try and source one from a European supplier to avoid it being held for tax by An Post.

I ordered stuff from Dealextreme over 4 months ago, still no sign of it and they have ignored all my emails.

I have bought many things from Dealextreme with no issues at all, aside from the build quality of some of the items, but that is the chance you take.
Did you check your delivery address?
    That is a pain alright.

For emulation on the go the PSP is still great, though I am using a GB/C and a Nes emu via a flashcart on my GBA Micro and SP, looks great and the games play as close to real hardware as possible.

On the big screen I have the Wii and now the original Xbox to keep me company.

Have been on the look out for such a flashcart for a while but to no avail:(

Wow, this looks cool!! But most of those features I have already on the psp.

PSP is a pain. I tried to get those-ahem-features on my PSP 3000 but just gave up in frustration. That handheld really looks incredible. I wonder what the build quality is like though.

I'd a gp2x wiz and wasnt impressed, Sold it in NZ and bought a PSP instead, which I also sold I might add. the PSP had better emulation and a larger screen :)
I still have the GP2X wiz box with instructions/etc if anyone needs one

I once ordered an R4 and 8Gb microSD card through DealExtreme.

The R4 arrived a month later, turned out to be a dud.
    ...
    ......
    ........
The microSD turned up 8 MONTHS LATER.
    ....
    Works though!

I've only ever used a PSP for my portable emualtion needs. It was simple to modify the firmware and add the emulators and of course everything was in english!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,322 ✭✭✭sham69

I find the psp suits my needs aswell.
I have all the decent emu's running with no problems.

I got a pro duo 16gb stick from dealextreme about 2 years ago and its a dud.
I still have it at home , hoping that one day it will magically work.
    I can't even format it....

Yeah, was just thinking that. Also, iplayer cards on the DS do the
    -more or less-same job too.

Got my GameBoy Micro for all my needs.

    Galaga all the way......

Would a PSP go be similarly simple to get emulators running on or am I being very silly?

Don't think the Go has been cracked yet.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,753 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

Yes, the Go is cracked as far as I know, but generally the later the firmware the fewer exploits will work.
Must pick up a Go somewhere, once they're cheap.
Gamestop flogged all of theirs for €50 each a couple of months ago, and I missed it!

\Yup you don't even need to hack it to play homebrew these days.

    Huh?

Do you still need custom firmware or have people managed to get emus running on up to date official firmware?

Not kept up with PSP homebrew in a while.

That's basically it. People figured out how to officially sign homebrew.
You can use a signed homebrew loader if the one you want doesn't have a signed version.
