    Guys,

I bought some bumper plates (5 & 10kg plates) a few weeks ago from dolphinfitness.co.uk.

Order seemed to go through ok and got a confirmation. Payment taken from my credit card. The order is still processing however and I can't seem to contact them !?

    I've emailed 4 times...no response. I've rung but can't seem to get through :(

Anyone bought from them before ?

    Cheers.

Looking at thier site, they had everything marked down to half price or very close to it.
Could it be that was a closing down sale and they've legged it?
Cant you claim a refund through your credit card company?

Refund ? Bought them on credit card alright (200€ worth). Would that be covered ?

    Their phone line is dead.

    Legged it I imagine.

Degsy is right, you should claim it back frmo the credit card company if you can.

I am setting up a factory manufacturing bumpers in Ireland but it's still about 6 months away from production. I can get you some cheaper than that if they keep ignoring you...

Fitness and supplement websites are notoriously bad for ripping people off. I know it's more expensive but try and stick to the high street. FitnessIreland.ie are always very reliable I find... again though, they're a rip-off.

I would have bought them locally (Ireland) but afaik there is nowhere to get bumper plates here. Had to go to a uk source :(

If by bumper you just mean coloured, rubber, olympic plates Mickk sells them.

Cheers. No I mean olympic bumper plates. Mickks are smaller than olympic plates which are 45cm diameter.

Is it the Kgs / lbs the difference?

Olympic bumpers are usuaslly either pure rubber with just a small steel/brass insert for the bar to go through or a small diameter steel core with a larger diameter rubber exterior to make up the plateprodinfo.asp?number=KG%2DBUMP

    prodinfo.asp?number=ECO%2DBUMP

as opposed to the coloured plates Mick k is selling which are steel plates with a very thin coating of rubber on them.
Also the large olympic plates all have the same diameter regardless of weight.

Yeah its the diameter really that I'm after. I have the plates Mickk sells and they are grea tbut not Oly diameter. Powerlifting diameter I think they are ... but could be way off on that assumption.

Does the 25kg plain iron plate mick k sells not have the diameter tyou are after ?

If you're looking for a cheap alternative to tide you over while Mick sets up his factory :D, you could try this

I just put my standard plates on the outside of the ply. I've put them down with 80kgs on the bar pretty hard when I totally missed a jerk and there was no damage to the ply or the floor.

No. Its not 45cm (Olympic plate size). Its smaller.

Cheers. I got my brother to make two plywood plates exactly like that just last weekend.

Just want my money back now is all :)

BACKSTARDS! If you bought it on your CC your card company may have some kind of insurance policy for just such an event.

People assume this, but a lot of credit card companies charge extra for fraud protection and/ or only cover you over a certain amount.

    Well then they're BACKSTARDS too!

My irishlifting 25kg plates are 450mm, the smaler ones are a smaller diameter.

There are three different types of plates,
commercial/home gym plates often with handles in the plate and a rounded edge to make it easy to pick up off the ground and because width of the plates isn't important like in powerlifting. Can come in iron or with a thin coat of rubber (not meant to absorb impact, just used to stop the "hardcore" noise of plates clanging in fitness centers ect.)

power lifting plates usually calibrated iron without handles and as narrow as possible because the bar will bent slightly less and if you sway a little the closer the weight is to the middle of the bar the easier it is to recover it. It's not an issue for 99.9% of people but for competitive powerlifters at meets every tiny difference matters.

olympic weightlifting plates are what is described by spiral, solid rubber with a small steel/brass insert for the bar to go through or a small diameter steel core with a larger diameter rubber exterior to make up the plate. They are usually alot wider than either the gym or powerlifting plates to spread the impact of being dropped from a height over a larger area and because rubber is less dense than iron. This also helps with oly lifting (again in competition) as it increases the whip a tiny bit.

Both PL and WL plates are the same diameter. 450mm.

At least the 20 and 25kg PL plates are.

Whatever about plates, contact your cc company. You won't have to go through any kind of insurance procedure and it's not an added extra they charge for. If you pay for something and don't receive it any credit card company worth their salt will reverse the payment to protect their customer.

You'll have to call them and ask the procedure and then put it in writing. Make a case, send them details of the website noting the slashed prices indicating a sell-off before the creditors move in, give them the number which is now dead etc. I went through the same thing a few years back with a camera, company emailed me weekly with a new excuse for the delay then one day the phone number was cut off and the site disappeared.

You are the one in the position of power here, in fact you can make this claim for any purchase and it is then up to the seller to pursue you for payment afterwards.

Yea, I am working with a polymer research group to find the best material to bond the rubber with. Originally I tried to manufacture gym equipment here but it was just impossible to compete with people bringing it in from China. I now buy between two people, TDS in the states (who get it in China) and I get some directly in China myself, I don't like it but it is the only way to be competitive.

I think I have found a loophole with the rubber plates which will mean I will be able to beat the Chinese price even with paying 100 times higher wages! It all depends on the price of the bonding agent.

Right. Over 5 weeks after the order was placed I had a missed call from a UK number. Rang back and turned out to be dolphin fitness ! Not the number on their website btw.

Turns out they had had a problem sourcing the plates. Nice of them to let me know

Anyway, they shipped them out last week and I got them yesterday. Muppets.

Woudl I recommend them ? Oh yeah sure. Like a hole in the head.
