At this sorta time last year I brought a tub of whey protein and a tub of some carbohydrates (waxy maize). However due to my personal life I didnt actually get round to using that much of it :o

The lid was kept on at all times when I wasnt taking it.

Is it still safe to use? I cant find an expiration date anywhere :(

    cheers

Its good to use as long as it was kept completely dry and no creepy crawlies gained access to the tub!

I hope not , that would disturb me if I ate like 5 cm down and found a whole army of mean ass mother ****ers. :o

The lid has been kept on it tight and its been kept in a dry room.

Should be fine, it is just best before dates on protien, which means just that, it was at its best before then, and is not suddenly toxic after.

"Use by" dates are a different matter, where meat can become toxic after a certain time.

I am not sure about the waxy maize, never saw the stuff before, oils can go rancid if there is oil in it at all, dry sugars should be fine though.

My whey protein did not have any dates for use by, hence my questions :o

I hoping its going to be okay. Will take some later.

Yeah, I saw that, what I was getting at was that even if it did have a date and it was now passed it then it is still probably fine. Tins of beans are sterile and will last indefinitely, people have eaten 50 year old tinned food and it is fine. In the 80s I never saw a date on a tin of beans, but now I do see them. This is a marketing thing, they do not want shops buying in bulk some year and having old tatty faded labels on products, with an out of date logo etc. It also forces shops to dump and restock old stuff.

Others take into account poor storage, I just drank milk today dated 28/3, it was in my proper fridge, now if it was on a warmer shelf in a supermarket it might have been off by 28/3. Most dry powdered food lasts ages and will not go toxic, the likes of spices just loose their flavour and so will be "best" before a certain date. Never heard of protein degrading.
