Congratulations to those of you have got internships - good experience and hugely increases your chances of securing a traineeship in the firm.

To those who don't get them, don't be overly disheartened. I got an interview, but not a position, for the internship programme for last summer. I sought out unpaid work experience in another firm, which was actually an amazing experience and actually gave me far more exposure than the internships would and that held me in good stead to get a job offer from one of the big 5 to commence as a trainee next year.

I heard from Maples yesterday, I didn't get it so maybe if you haven't heard yet u will! Frys must have changed their mind...

maybe they have already offered people who didnt get traineeships but they were still kind of interested in internships and thought any remaining places werent worth seeking applications for because of the sheer volume? MOP offered internships to some who didnt get trainieeships so the competition for the remaining places will be fierce.

I am so fed up, what do they want to give you an internship, a limb? They refuse you for their apprenticeship-on whatever grounds noone knows, and then you get refused from their internship position for once again, noone knows what criteria you have to fufil...

I'm so annoyed, you need experience to be considered, but they won't give you that experience at the same time.

    grrrrrr, needed to rant.

Heard back from Maples and Calder also and did not get it. They take on very few for their internship anyway.

Interview with Arthur Cox this week.....

    Anyone heard from MOP yet???

Did you hear via post or email?

Has anyone heard anything positive from Maples & Calder?

I got a rejection from Maples...got interview with MOP tho, any one know what kind of questions they ask in the interview?

I also emailed Fry's the last day, they said they weren't taking any interns as the positions were already filled by co-ops.

What are co-ops? Seems strange that they wouldn't give iternships when they've been big on them the last few years.

My interview with MOP was very relaxed. I got a rugby mad partner the week after Leinster lost pathetically to Munster in the 2006 Heineken Cup. Spent 95% of the time talking about rugby and the rest a token glance over the application form. I'd just advise to know that form off by heart and to try to relax and go with the flow in the interview. You make a much better impression if you're able to talk about a varied amount of things rather than pre-prepared answers on the credit crunch.

As far as I know, co-ops are work-experience offered through the colleges. However, they are usually given during term? To be honest it could be a literal way of side-stepping the fact that they are cutting out taking on interns.

hi hada. Have a 1.1 so far in my degree (in 3rd year) and did pretty well in the LC. Bit of work experience. That's about it.

Had 2 internship interviews in the last few weeks. They are quite informal and relaxed. Basically just going through your applicaiton form and CV to be honest.

Dissappointed with Arthur Cox - not a very nice reception for interns. Interviews seemed rushed and no trainees there to meet interviewees. Basically left sitting in a big boardroom on your own.

The pfo from Maples was an email - a 2sentence email I might add. Doubt they are taking on many at all. They took less than 10 back in January for the traineeship.

Going on a little tangent here- how far is sir rogersons quay from hueston and would a taxi be the best way to get there (i.e. how much would it cost?)

just came across this thread on the main board. Guys, dont be disheartened if you dont get internships...it doesnt reflect on your chances of obtaining a traineeship. For example, I have heard (from reliable sources) that goodbody's took on 40+ interns last summer but only offered traineeships to between 12 and 15. Ok, you may have a slightly better chance of getting an apprenticeship if you intern but by all means, failure to intern does not mean you wont get an apprenticeship. But at the same time those 3 or 4 weeks of interships are going to be absolute war for all interns involved with everyone fighting to impress...and if it doesnt work out...it will just lead to more heartache so i wouldnt be too worried if you dontget one.
I didnt do any last summer or at all for that matter...but managed to get an apprenticeship with a "Big 5" firm in october.
Its all a game of luck to be honest as I applied to 15 firms and only got 3 interviews and one offer, but thankfully the offer was from my first choice firm.

It's a good distance to walk, it's down almost as far as the O2... I would get the 90/91/92 bus from Heuston to the city centre and then a taxi to MOP, will save you a bit of cash!

@Panda142 - most firms don't have trainees meeting you for internship interviews, just for the traineeship ones

Hi panda, I'm studying in UCD. Actually I noticed when I was waiting for my Goodbody interview that all the interviewees were either UCD or Trinity.

(Not in any way suggesting there is a preference! There was two days of interviews afaik. Probably just kept us together.)

I guessed as much. Yeah Goodbody's had 2 days - I found the same though - all UCDers and Trinners!

*sigh* its a tough ole world!

Well, got my first official PFO from a law firm! Arthur Cox, but I didn't really expect it, I don't think I came across too well in the interview. But oh well, it was very nice really, they put me on the waiting list in case anyone drops out

the interviews were quite a number of weeks ago. And offers have already been made out for the summer internship since then.

Are you sure you have a summer internship interview? When is the actual interview?

Here in the US the bigger firms pay 2300 - 3800 dollars per week gross... sickening :P

And yes, this is for a summer internship. Perhaps unsurprisingly I did not get any US offers...

What are you doing in the US Thirdfox, may I ask?

The money some of those commercial firms offer in NY, Chicago, etc, is absolutely massive. I've heard some figures thrown about for trainees that I'd be embarrassed to mention!
