I seen your other post about Creative Ireland.

    First of all,

    1. Why do you feel the need to bitch about them.
    2. Why post your dislike for it on boards.ie

I actually dont generalise and like any forum I know you going to get the odd twat. But its coming from the moderators and then most off the members its just an awful webite. Its actually harder to find somebody decent on it to ask advice.

I know where you're coming from... There are some real fools on that site. But trawl through the crap and you'll get some very good advise, and make some great contacts there.

    1) Don't listen to the BS.
    2) Ignore the politics
    3) Expect to meet a lot of idiots there.

    And you'll be alright.

One thing I like about the CI site you NEVER see people asking for free work. They'd be destroyed and with the mods blessing too. :)

I've not seen the aussie version to be honest. But I know what you mean.... I've seen discussions turn into juvenile mud slinging. And the mods should not put up with it. In fact, it wouldn't be accepted on any other site (well nearly any other... :)).

Pity, because on the one hand it's a cool site. :(

It could be a great site and ive noticed the mods are the ones doing alot of the mud slinging. Its crazy. I think when some people get a graphics job they think they have made it and turn into a prick! Not all but some!:)

That's kinda odd, because compared to boards, there's very little moderation on CI.

Being a designer having worked with designers and having friends that are designers (i dont know anyone on CI). We have that mentality all the time. We are reserved but if someone says something which can be warped into innuendo or similar then they are game. some jokes and pisstakes have come and gone for years!

I think CI is unique in that they are very open minded as was mentioned, theres no being told what you can and cant say, Before I joined I was always told to watch what questions I ask, and prepare to get 'flamed'.

I find it good but you are right there are some asshats on it too but if you are there for a while you get to spot these and avoid. Some. very decent people on there too I have found (free with info, that sort of thing). Boards and ci are the 2 forums I use regularly

There is some decent ones on it and I still use for the tech updates but thats about it. But the majority of the members are numptys!

I never heard of it before today!

I tried to join it but apparently can't post because I'm in a moderation queue. Does anyone know how long it should take to be able to post?

Usually if I have to wait to post on a site I don't come back to it, but I want to see what all the fuss is about :P

I find most Irish online communities to be a joke. I've never encountered one that wasn't totally cliquey.

*edit* It takes about an hour between registration and being allowed to post if anyone wants to know :P

Ah mate your in for real boring treat of obnoxious, arrogant, horrible people. Theres even a post at the moment in the general discussions saying "its quiet in here" no bloody wonder its because everybody is so bloody scared to post. Your in for a real boring treat stick to Boards your better of!

Where is this thread? I don't see any in the general forums claiming "its quiet in here". All online boards have their annoying members, boards.ie due it's size has a fair few. I've posted on CI for a number of years and never had any issues nor seen any issues on there. It's small forum with a small audience given that it's gear towards the creative community, it's certainly no where as busy as boards.ie and pretty shuts down after 5pm and at weekends. I've been given great professional advice from it and got work as well, great resource for anyone working in the creative sector in Ireland.

Tell us Mr Tombstone what your handle is on CI and we'll have look see at some of the threads on there you seem to think your being attacked in.

Hey Z I have to agree with Mr T and some of the other guys here ive found the site to be really nasty. Maybe you should give Mr T a break and let him have his opinion! But thats just my opinion. :)

I haven't found the site to be nasty, am I not allowed to have my opinion? If yourself and Mr. T are allowed post your opinions then so should I. Some people in this thread have also stated they've had no issues with the site so it does seem to be a personal thing, don't like the site, don't post there, if I don't like a forum [and there's at least one I can think of off the top of my head] I don't read or post on it. I just find it odd that people are stating there's issues with the CI forum yet don't give any clear examples cept to say "O people on there are nasty and mean".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 729 ✭✭✭beth-lou

I actually think boards is much more heavily moderated than CI. Yes there are annoying people on all forums. There was one particularily annoying poster on CI who was constantly posting ridiculous threads and flipping from ultra nice to pretty nasty. That person was also prone to sending nasty private messages and had numerous aliases too, to back themselves up.

That person was banned for repeated trolling and antagonising.
I'm thinking Mr T might be the same person due to the nasty message I got yesterday.

    Apologies if I'm wrong.

I know the member your talking about Beth lol!

But I was actually watching alot of that when it went on CI and I noticed alot of flaming and bulling towards that member. This is my reason for avoiding the site, as ive found that the mods gang up on certain members they dont like. Then the members think its ok to do it as well, because if the mods can do it why cant the members do it? This place may be strict but its sharp and to the point theres no messing about. I find this place better run but hey thats only my say so! :(

Ok  you seriously think that was jumping down your throat? I was giving my opinion, like everyone else, at no time did I make any personal remarks about anyone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 729 ✭✭✭beth-lou

Really? My observation of it was quite the opposite. The mods frequently gave leeway and didn't pull that person up on many attempts to antagonise certain members and mods and eventually most people got sick of the drama.
That was my reading of it, that and the fact that that person had a persecution complex.

Anyway, I think what happened on that site was that a lot of new members found the piss taking on the site too much and it became a ghost town because of the constant accusations of bullying, which in my opinion were way over the top. It all got too serious, but there are still some very funny and very generous people who post there.

I think boards is way stricter in it's moderation. But that's ok because its a different type of site with a lot more people on it.

Well thats no what I seen imho Beth and I felt sorry for the guy/girl. I think if your a mod in any forum you have to work to certain standard and I dont think they deal with members in the correct manner. I def prefer boards IE to CI.

I also feel that CI is dying because of certain members and Mods getting away murder and treating other members like dirt. Ive alot of friends who a designers they steer well clear of it becuase of this.

I think CI is dying because it all went too PC and the light hearted pisstaking that made it such a funny place was phased out. There were hints of the old glory in the Brian Cowen thread, but there were a few whingers and trolls who joined up and turned it into a school playground. ce la vie.

Maybe it will find it's magic again.

God that thread bored me to tears to be honest. I mean seriously how many photoshop images can they do. The "light hearted piss take" as you put it Beth is what killed CI as it wasnt moderated right in the first place. And IMHO is were the bully started on other members. I can see the tumbel weeds in the distance.

Please dont take this the wrong way Beth because this is going to sound cheeky but its not meant to be. But if you love it so much why arent you using now???

Actually dont anwser that Ive just realised ive got involved in somebody elses argument! LOL

I don't think you can look at CI as a forum for general discussion. I hardly ever read or post in the general forums there at all, I only check the forums relevant to my work which would be the illustration and animation forums and I haven't noticed any difference in the number or quality of the threads in those forums. For general discussion I would check out boards as you've a higher number of posters and the forum doesn't go dead after 5 or at weekends.

Did you know Beth in 2005 I was a merry little art and design student who loved all things art and design. I was told about this great irish site creative ireland. Gosh I thought what a great site. I enjoyed every minute of it until the banter started getting worse and worse and worse. This then created the troll you now know as MR RASPBERRYHARDON who was just sick of the ****e and stood up to the pricks! So if im to do with the downfall of that site im rather proud of myself!!!!
